Hope you check out Clank Catacombs, fixes a lot of what you're talking about.
How does this compare to Dominion?
F… off 😂 you got a new subscriber 👍 Thanks for a earnest review.
New favourite board game review channel, thanks! 👍
I think this lives nicely alongside Paul Dennen's other Deck Builder plus a board game, Dune Imperium.
They have such different feels. Dune Imperium for my group, if someone gets rolling that game can be a 10/10 experience; but if someone just doesn't get into a rhythm a session can be a 5/10 for them.
Clank tends to be a consistent 8/10 each time for all players.
At least for our group.
Agree with what you said about the component quality. When I first got it I was sure it was a cheap Chinese made knock off copy, but nope! Just cheaply made.
Buy this or Lost Ruin of Arnak? Which one has more replay value? Thanks
Great review! They seem to have taken the feedback on board about modular tiles with the next game In the Clank series – Clank! Catacombs!
Clank! Legacy addresses these “didn’t like” points and is really fun. However, it is a bit expensive, especially since you will only play the legacy campaign once, and then are left with something like a regular Clank game that doesn’t change anymore. On the other hand, your board game group might be ready to move on to another game after the 10-session campaign anyway.
Great review and production value
Nice review. I wouldn't go as far as saying it looks like shit. Whenever I put down the board, players seem stare in delight. Wow, what is this labyrinthian puzzle? What do these spots do? How am I ever going to conquer this? Maybe its a bit dull coloured, but it is an ominous dungeon, not Candyland.
Thanks for the review as I’ve been thinking of getting one of the Clank range for a while. Surprised a negative wasn’t player elimination given you have dissed other games such as Nemesis for this 🤔
I need to get in a few playthroughs so I can go ahead and jump into the Legacy. I heard thats a great time.
Solid review mate. Love your work.
I've been eyeing this up for a whilr. I got El Dorado, then Dominion and have been enjoying them. So thinking I will add this to the collection once those have been worn in a bit more.
Totally agree with all your pros and cons man. We find the artwork and flavour text a little too whimsical but dammit it sure is a fun and satisfying game to play innit?
Literally? I am not sure what that would add to game night atmosphere.
This must be the most over saturated genre in board games and I have played a shitload since TSRs Dungeon! In the 1970s. I dislike the cartoon Ines and point salad ness but don’t have a specific animus against Clank! I think I could even sell it to my group and have some fun playing it.. but to me it sings not so no sale.
Clank! is one of my favorite games, if not my favorite (I think Legacy is the best followed by Clank! in Space tho). You make some good points about the negatives. I ended up sleeving my cards with ending up working out well. I didn't think much about how light the theme really is in this one. Your ideas are pretty good about how to make it a bit more thematic.
When I was trying to buy Clank! It was sold out everywhere and I forgot about it before I got a copy. I guess it's time to try again.
