The first phone of the Edge 60 series is here and it is the first Motorola to have Moto AI out of the box. It has a few other “firsts” to its name too, in case you don’t care about AI.
The Motorola Edge 60 Fusion features a 6.67” quad-curved display with Pantone Validated colors – that’s one of those firsts we mentioned. The quad-curved shape is designed to transition smoothly into the frame and then the back. Speaking of, the back comes in a variety of vegan leather and textile-inspired finishes with hues curated in collaboration with the Pantone Color Institute.
The display is pretty impressive for the class – the 120Hz P-OLED panel has a higher resolution than its predecessor (1,220 x 2,712px vs. 1080p+) and can hit a peak brightness of 4,500 nits when watching HDR content. Brightness is controlled with DC dimming at lower levels, by the way, to avoid flickering. The display is a 10-bit panel with 100% coverage of DCI-P3 and HDR10+ support. It is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i.
Speaking of protection, the new Fusion is rated IP68/IP69 and can survive submersion in fresh water up to 1.5m for 30 minutes, plus high-pressure water jets. The display can detect wet fingers. The phone has also been tested to the MIL-STD-810H standard.
The Moto Edge 60 Fusion will be powered by the Dimensity 7300 or 7400, depending on the region (not that there’s much difference between the two). The chips will be paired with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage.
The new Fusion will run Android 15 out of the box with Moto AI features, which include transcribing and summarizing audio, plus the Magic Canvas that generates images based on text prompts.
The rear camera is based on the same 50MP Sony Lytia 700C sensor as the Edge 50 Fusion. It has OIS and the Photo Enhancement Engine can automatically adjust settings depending on the scene (e.g. Adaptive Stabilization adjusts stabilization, Action Shot controls shutter speed).
The 13MP ultra-wide camera also handles macro shots and can focus as close as 3cm (about an inch). The selfie camera has a 32MP sensor (0.7µm pixels, quad-pixel binning) and is capable of recording 4K video. Motorola’s partnership with Pantone extends to the cameras and they are Pantone Validated and Pantone SkinTone Validated. Color accuracy is helped by the 3-in-1 light sensor on the back, which also helps calibrate exposure and eliminate flickering.
Regional differences extend to the battery – some countries will get a 5,200mAh battery, others 5,500mAh. Both are larger than the 5,000mAh capacity of the Edge 50 Fusion battery, for what that’s worth. Charging is done over USB-C with the 68W TurboPower adapter (included in some countries, but not everywhere). Motorola says that you only need 8/9 minutes of charging to get enough for a full day of use.
The USB-C port is wired for USB 2.0 data only. The phone also has a Hi-Res certified sound system, but no 3.5mm headphone jack. It does have stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. Anyway, other connectivity options include 5G (SIM+SIM or SIM+eSIM), Wi-Fi 6 (ax), Bluetooth 5.4 and NFC.
