We are schnauzer people. After growing up on a large, family-run, wool growing business, working dogs were tools of the trade that were never treated as pets and were “retired” when no longer able to work. After a home break-in/robbery while I was away with work, I bought my wife a miniature schnauzer pup called “Big Boy” by his breeders, and named “Oscar” by my wife. I can’t come close to describing what a wonderful member of the family our “Big Boy” became, opening my eyes to the value of a furry child who helped my wife regain confidence while I was away with work, who also greeted and protected our 2 boys when they were brought home from hospital. I’ve still got an Oscar-sized hole in my heart from losing our Big Boy, but we’ve done our best in rescuing and re-homing some 20-25 abandoned Schnauzers (many “puppy farm” rejects) to live with similarly minded Schnauzer tragics, including our parents, friends and family. We’ve got 4 beautiful boys at the moment and I wouldn’t have it any other way.❤
My favorite discovery about Schnauzers is that they truly are cats in dog’s bodies! Schnauzers want to initiate any cuddles, not you; they love to find a high place to perch, usually the back of the sofa, so they can survey their domain; they are fearless in the face of much larger animals; and if you haven’t heard a Schnauzer snoring, it’s very reminiscent of a cat’s purr!!!

My Schnauzer adopted me. He was a stray who approached me while walking my girlfriend’s dogs. Followed us home and took him to the shelter. They asked us to foster him while his owner could try to find him. A couple of months later they said no one had claimed him, he’s yours. Someone must have abused him in his past. He jumps in my lap whenever someone sweeps the floor. He actually shakes.

I've owned three Miniature Schnauzers and I think they're the most perfect dog for people living in small apartments like me. I call them "a big dog in a small package." They're smart, they're funny, they're easy to care for, and don't shed at all. Hard to find a dog any better, and I've owned them all.

We have had a mini schnauzer, Yorkie, and German Shepherd. The schnauzer is the most affectionate of them all. He loves to snuggle. All dogs have their own unique traits and personalities but I think if I were to get another dog I’d take the schnauzer again. German Shepherds are the smartest but more aloof and Yorkies are just in a world of their own.
