This isn’t a remake, its actually a direct sequel to Gungrave Overdose in 2004. There’s even a history option in the main menu to recount those games before diving into the new game. There’s also a Gungrave anime, though its more so its own timeline. Appreciate the review nonetheless! I love this game for what it is, ridiculous good fun lol.

Definitely feels like a PS2 game brought to the present day
Nice review glad the game gave ya some fun. As a long time fan I can say this game definitely wasn't concerned with a modern 3rd person shooter design for better and worse. Your not the fast character thay can zoom or out pace your enemies, your a man raised from the dead with a huge coffin of guns that is a living tank one man army thay also controls like a tank for the weight. But in so it is unapologetically a badass with big guns power trip of being a one man army tearing through hordes of fodder with Grave.
A few of the things that were troubling you was the parry for rockets you do have to be completely stationary and melee, not forward melee. And when things get thick with a horde of enemies your demolition shots are your saving grace, which are stylish special moves with Graves massive coffin that can turn into a multitude of guns that correspond to your equipped demolition shots. The skull keeps track of said shots with its flames next to it as charges, they tear through said hordes to keep the pressure manageable aswell as replenish health chunks to keep you alive.
Still by all means this game isn't for everyone, it's the equivalent of sitting down with a tub of popcorn for a good B movie, but like how B movies cab have cult followings so does Gungrave and for the fans from the PS2 era it's almost all they could have wanted. And it's great to have Grave back from the grave again.
the music in that first level ALMOST killed the whole game for me – truly awful.
What other games are in this genre? Only thing coming to mind is jet force gemini

For some reason this game/review got me thinking of Dead Space… the first one was great (story wise) although a bit dated now… 2 and 3 were….decent… give the original a go in your spare time lol….
