At my old house my cat Sammy (a maincoon tabby mix) ran at and attacked a shepherd after that the guy would cross the street before going in front of our house and I had even over heard him telling my neighbor about it the dog was the one who pulled and avoided our house love shepherds but my cat ain’t no slouch that cat would shoot someone if I left a loaded gun out love my old girl

We have taken my friend’s cat (4 years old) on a trial basis. We have a GSD who will be 5 years old in two months. The cat is still scared of our GS. We are keeping them separated with gates right now because we are afraid our GS will hurt the cat accidentally. Our GS loves others dogs when we see other dogs at the park or at a store and she loves people. She just has not been around cats. Any suggestions to introduce them properly?

I have 4 cats and just two month back my sister who was staying out of town bought GSD (18 months old female) and she has never ever seen a cat so she keeps chasing my cats to bite .. what do I do? My cats are really scared and the freedom they had is all gone. I have to lock my kitties most of the time in my room and let them out for few minutes only. We have tried everything to make them friendly but it just won’t work. Please help if there’s anything I can try .

I have an issue where my GSD pup wants to chase our cat. He doesn't try to hurt her or attack her, he just wants to chase. The issue is that he is a lot bigger than our cat, and I have fears of accidental harm to our cat as well. Once he sees her, he freaks out and obsesses. Any tips?

The first day you brought your puppies home did you introduce them to the cats right away or did you wait a day or two ? Also, the door latches you use are they just baby latches or are they a specific brand or animal product ?
Does it become more difficult if we start when the pup is bigger than them? She’s almost 10 weeks, but our cats react very defensively and always hiss. Not sure how to settle them both down to calm down enough to sniff and get to know each other 🙁

Cats are RUDE! We have a cat that "picks" on all of our dogs. The cat with reach in their crates when sleeping and "pet" them. Lol or he'll wait until they are nice and cozy snoozing and will flop his body on them and attempt to snuggle. They dogs DO NOT share the same feelings. Lol. But they are protective over the little dictator.

We did the same thing for introducing our pup to our cats. Also made sure everybody's nails were trimmed short. This way they could still defend themselves if needed but not get hurt as much. I would always monitor them together. 3 years later, I still do check up on them when they play together but the cats got used to hitting my dog on the nose when she plays too rough and my dog gets the message and backs away. Getting a GSD pup pup in 2 days!! So will have to do the introduction steps again. 🙂
