I have NEVER had a dog attack at a dog park ever! My dog started training at 12 weeks, with and without a e-collar.,the level of effort and approach are different with people and the breed. I raised three kids, our dogs not too different! Lol “go to your room” or “go to your house”. I can take an 74 lb Dalmatian anywhere. But, if someone should raise their voice to me in anger, or come at me an aggressive way. I can make him “down/leave it” or let him protect me. And he has.
Some very good advice in this video but some of it may not work for every dog or every owner. He has the room, the means and the time.Your dedication and commitment to training your dog/s is something to think seriously about before you decide to have dog/s, Also, sometimes re-homing is the only safe, humane option when 2 dogs cannot get along. There are dogs that are lovely with people but just should be in a home where they are the only pet.
Very good 👍🐾🐾🐾
Where I live to use e-collar it's $1,600 penalty.
Just saw your comment about dogs on furniture (assuming this goes for beds too). My dog is very needy for contact with her humans so she does snuggle on the couch or in the chair with my husband and she sleeps with him mostly. If we end up getting this other dog, he is used to sleeping on his dog bed. I really like Gracie snuggling up with me but if this works out, it would be nice to see them snuggle together instead. just for her sake of companionship. What you say about LOVE and RESPECT. Gracie respected me up until about 2 years ago. I have become less ambulatory and I think she takes advantage of that. My illness causes fatigue so I have not worked with her on a constant basis. Not sure how to address that.
I agree about dogparks for the very reason you cite. My dog can be very nervous about new environments, car rides and new places. Anything outside of her routine. She doesn't typically do well around dogs her size or bigger, she likes smaller dogs to play with. That's why I'm really nervous about this Boxer mix coming into our home.
When I first got my dog, she pulled and tugged on her traditional collar and leash and would not submit. virtually uncontrollable. I got her a slip leash and that all changed. Looking at the dominant dog collars the same principle applies I think? She's been with us for four years now and I don't use any other type of leash.
What if you don't have room in your house for two crates??? My current female Pitmix (spayed) has been with us 4 years now. She still has abuse issues. She has a crate, but we don't have room for another crate right now and we're sort of being forced into a situation to take a relative's dog which is a Boxer mix male. This all came down fast so I'm scrambling to figure out what to do and how to d it so as to be smooth transition of bonding.
I dont crate my dogs, will a baby gate work to separate them?
He's right. Got to understand his p.o.v. His experience is with protection type breeds. This type of dog really needs rules and structure from the start. Sure, you can relax the rules, depending on the dogs and situation but, he is describing a method that has the greatest certainty of being effective for safety, and ensuring a healthy adjustment into the home with the dogs already there.
Great information! One tip to add, the chain link is a great barrier between dogs as long as it’s covered like a tennis court with mesh… watched my dogs tooth get hung up and he popped a tooth in half right in front of me… it was like time slowed down so much that I clearly saw the tooth get hung up and snap in half. The first word out of my mouth was F!!!
Good video. We are introducing a two year old pit(sweatest pup) to our five year choco lab is is good too but really excitable with mild separation anxiety.
They walk well together but once in the house or back yard the older “home” choco is a bit aggressive.
Working on it very slowly.
Low level stimulation ? Let’s put the collar on you again like you say you did. But this time I get to say where it goes. And it won’t be around your arm.
Getting my new dog tomorrow. Had my dog meet the new one at the shelter so I know they get along but I’m nervous about bringing the new one home in the morning. He was a stray they caught and brought in to the shelter. Very sweet boy from everything I’ve seen so far.
Hello, I’ve watched your video and really like it. My family recently brought home a new dog. I have 2 existing dogs (boy and girl) living in the home. We walked each dog independently with the new dog on the other side of the street. There were no problems. We walked them in front of each other and side by side. No problems. No aggression at all. We brought them in the house and the boys were fine for a bit but then they started barking at each other. That turned into barking with teeth and then into a full blown fight. I was able to break them up and it was fine. Do you have any suggestions?
Not knocking this guy or his teaching, I just don't think it's necessary to go to this extent. I mean, you can't go wrong with the way he's teaching this stuff. However, it doesn't always have to be this serious and this strict.
Too strict for me.
I have 2 male boxers and just yesterday I adopted a female boxer. She gets along fine with one of the male dogs, but she keeps getting aggressive with the other one. They all live outside in the yard (they're not allowed in the house), but right now I'm having to keep either one of them in a cage at all times in order to avoid fights. Should I just keep doing that?
I’m so glad I found your channel. Thank you for such great info!
My puppy is 11 months. He is friendly but always puts his paws on the other dogs back like he’s about to mount them. Male and female. He is fixed. How do I stop this? I need to pet sit and I don’t want a fight to break out. He wants to play and gets too excited. Help.
Ugh. No prong collars, choke collars or any form of shock collar. Positive reinforcement works 100x better than fear-based training. I appreciate this video is old, this man is old and his methods are old but add disclaimers to old videos and ensure people are re-directed to better information. Idiots will follow this and these tools just make socialisation situations something to fear even more. Positive reinforcement has brought my horrifically abused, isolated deadly girl from trying to kill any other dog in her path to off lead in the dog park safely in a month. Please go to Victoria Stilwell and learn the positive methods of training. Honestly I may add another lady to the house in under 6 months because of the progress.
This guy needs a seminar with Cesar Millan
Absolutely the most comprehensive and easy to follow instructions for introducing adult dogs! Thank you for posting this! I will absolutely be following these suggestions and remember your channel/ name for further instruction!
I do visit the dog park because I don't have a back yard but I don't let my dog interact with others. He and I just play fetch and walk the trails together. He knows to avoid groups of dogs playing together. If too many dogs are interested in him and try to go our way, we turn to a different direction and I let the owner know we are not interested in playing. My dog loves with play with dogs but I will only let him play if the situation is ok.
I also don't like it when people talk all the time and don't control their dogs in bad situations. And also they don't see signs of bad behavior in their dogs at the park.
Dominant dog collar is just a choke collar from what i have seen
