Microsoft Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 13 announced

Microsoft announced its latest Surface devices with the 2-in-1 Surface Pro 12 and the Surface Laptop 13. Both are Arm-powered with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Plus chip, boot Windows 11, and feature Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC suite.

Surface Pro 12

Surface Pro 12 is built around a 12-inch LCD touchscreen with 2,196 x 1,464px resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The signature Surface 3:2 aspect ratio is back again, and you still get stylus input via the bundled Surface Slim Pen, which attaches and charges magnetically to the back of the device. The device features a 1080p front-facing camera with Windows Hello and a 10MP rear shooter.

Like previous Surface 2-in-1 devices, the Surface Pro 12 features an adjustable kickstand and detachable keyboard. Microsoft is now offering its optional keyboard accessory in Slate, Violet, and Ocean colors though it goes away with the signature Alcantara finish from previous generation Surfaces.

The Surface Pro 12 features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Plus (8 cores) with 16GB LPDDR5x RAM and 256 or 512GB storage. The device has no vents for cooling. It has Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, though there’s no cellular option this time around.

Surface Pro 12 features an aluminum chassis, weighs just 686 grams, and is 7.8 mm thick. It features 2x USB-C ports, which support USB 3.2 and DP 1.4a protocols. Microsoft removed the magnetic Surface Connect charging port.

Microsoft did not reveal the Surface Pro 12’s actual battery capacity, but claims it can deliver up to 12 hours of web usage and 16 hours of local video playback.

Surface Pro 12 is on pre-order and starts at $800/€979/£799 for the 256GB storage version. It comes in Platinum, Violet, and Ocean colors. Deliveries are scheduled for May 20.

Surface Laptop 13

The new 13-inch Surface Laptop slots as the most compact entry in the Surface Laptop family, complementing the 13.8” and 15” models. It gets a 13-inch LCD touchscreen with 1,920 x 1,280 px resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate and 3:2 aspect ratio. You also get a 1080p webcam with Windows Hello.

The laptop gets an aluminum chassis and weighs 1.22 kg. It features the same 8-core Snapdragon X Plus chip as the Surface Pro 12, paired with 16GB LPDDR5x RAM and 256 or 512GB storage.

In terms of ports, you get 1x USB-A (3.1), 2x USB-C (USB 4 and DisplayPort 1.4a), and a headphone jack. You also get Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity.

Like the Surface Pro 12 we don’t get an actual battery capacity figure. Microsoft claims 16 hours of web usage and up to 23 hours of local video playback.

Surface Laptop 13 comes in Ocean, Violet and Platinum colors. Pricing starts at $900/€1,099/£899 for the 256GB version. Deliveries are scheduled for May 20.
