My adorable cat Sheba was a neighborhood stray. She looks identical to the American Bombay with the yellow eyes. She has a small white patch of fur on her chest and a pretty good size white patch of fur low on her tummy. Is she a Bombay? I am confused because as the narrator was saying bombays are all black they were showing a picture of a black cat with a white patch on its chest just like my Sheba. I am trying to identify what breed she is other than a black domestic short hair. She fits all the other descriptions of the Bombay breed in every way and she is super smart. Always seeking heat sources. She wants to sleep on my legs at night to absorb the heat. Very low maintenance fur she does not shed much. It doesn't matter what breed she is but I would like to know she is all day or not?

OH, and a whole lot love to give!! That's my Bombay, Roscoe P Coaltrain. Looked like a small coal train when he first walked into my life three years ago. I could pick him up in one hand, now he's 17 pounds and very cool!!

I just celebrated my first Valentines Day since leaving a four year long abusive relationship by adopting a petite Bombay girl, Knives. At first KB was extremely shy. She only wanted to be near my g-son. They bonded quickly
Gradually, she became friendly to all family members, except our Lab. She swats and hisses everytime. During the holidays, she visited all our family members to be pet and appreciated! The Lab wants to play KB wants none of her. They are jealous of each other. Both are now close to 2 years old.
Other than liking our dog, she fits all the other characteristics to a tee. I would add she plays hard and tough. Training her to be more gentle.

I would have liked to see official Bombay cats being judged at a cat show and more official Bombay cat photos. Alot of these cats might have some Bombay in them, but they are most domestic short hair cats that happen to be black. I doubt they have ancestors from the breeding that was official. 😼🐾

Unless purchased from a breeder, of which there have never been more than 20, the chances of finding a Bombay in a shelter/stray is almost zero. Black cats are great (I'm a house panther servant myself) but because Bombays are so rare and British Bombays basically nonexistent in the US, it's almost guaranteed that any black cat not purchased from a breeder is a DSH.
