I will just say, after all this time, the ONE strategy that has allowed me to dominate this game… Is living in a van down by the river. RV Mod + Riverside is unbelievably optimal.
There's two gigantic fields beside where my best run calls home. So much room to build a house, so many trees to deforest to do so, infinite water for fishing and washing, and you can see threats before they're a problem. As long as you can plan routes after you've expended the local area and effectively keep your mobile home stocked (preferably with a sedan or van) you are constantly prepared and constantly ready to go somewhere else if for some reason the area's not working or you're bored of it.

In the three years since this video, they've added animals as well as replacing farming with agriculture and added animal care and butchering (for harvesting meat from animals). That and there's now leatherwork, masonry, blacksmithing, carving, and so forth to let you make primitive and medieval weapons/armor. That and they've altered the aiming to where if the reticle is red while aiming, you can hit the zeds. However, the more open the reticle, the less damage you make.
Unfortunately, they've also added a muscle strain system where you can strain your muscles from overuse like using your physical weapons for too long. But you can turn this off in options.

Hey dude just so you know for pistols or short range with a rifle you have to aim where they are gonna be in a second or so or it won’t hit so not right at them unlike a shotgun(it took me like 40 hr to learn this XD)
