Netflix is about to stop working on some ancient Fire TV devices

Netflix is about to stop working on some Amazon Fire TV streaming devices, so if you’re still rocking a first generation model it might be time to upgrade.

The streaming giant has emailed affected users to tell them they’re no longer able to support three Amazon streaming devices from June 3, which is just over a week from now (via Zdnet).

So, if you’re still rocking the Fire TV (2014), Fire TV Stick (2014), and Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote (2016) then you won’t be using it to watch the hottest releases of the summer on Netflix.

Netflix hasn’t offered an official explanation for the loss of support, but it probably isn’t for the want of trying. Amazon isn’t so sharp with the updates of these devices and they won’t be supporting the most modern video codecs any more and it’s got to the point Netflix just can’t do it anymore.

Save that your television’s smart TV OS may support Netflix and/or you may be able to cast from your smartphone or tablet to the larger screen. Failing that, the old HDMI into the laptop will sort you out.
