Am watching this to learn more prior to my pet rats appt tomorrow. Is it fair to say all tails are the same? I took him to a vet yesterday who refused to amputate because he wasn’t familiar with rats! I just can’t see how the anatomy of a tail would be so vastly different apart from size. True? Thanks in advance.
❤ from Brisbane, Aus.
Tomorrow my cat gonna go through the same procedure 😢 wish us luck 🍀
I'm up watching my dog and have been worried sick since she had to have the tip of her tail amputated. I'm not sure why it happened, but a few nights ago she violently atracked her tail like it was another animal. I actually saw her do it and it was horrifying! She is a rescue from a dog meat farm in south korea. She was about 4 or 5 months old when we got her. She's 7.5 now and has never done anything like this before. She has allergies and would lick her paws but nothing like what she did to her tail. She was recently diagnosed with thyroid disease. As soon as we started thyroxine her skin healed and her fur grew back super fast, but…she started drinking a gallon of water a day. Her urine test and blood work indicated possible cushings disease. Low dose dexamethasone suppression test confirmed it. She is now on veteyrol and thyroxine. Aftee starting the Veteryol she began losing fur on her paws, the tip of her ears, and the tip of her tail. Her allergies came back with a vegence. That's when she began focusing on her tail. Then the other night out of the blue she attacked it. Since the tail surgery she started back on apoquel and we added cytopoint injection. She went to the vet yesterday for a follow up and they said it was healing well. She also had a new bandage put on but it fell off around midnight tonight. She has stitches and her tail was completely shaved so she is really focused on it. She's a fluffy girl, a korean jindo mix, so I think its hard for her to not focus on it because of how it looks and feels. I'm so afraid to sleep, worried the surgery pain will make her atrack it again. I don't know what to do, but now I completely understand there are other reasons a dog may have part or all of its tail removed. Without all of that fur there's norhing but bone and skin. She has a cone on but she is extremely flexible and I worry she is gonna hurt herself again. Plus the edge of the cone is really sharp so even her just trying to get to it worries the heck out of me. I hope we get her cushings dose right soon so her fur can grow back and it wont stand out to her anymore. It's clearly painful for them to injur their tail and recovering from the surgery isn't fun either. Especially when they feel the need to shake a lot because of the cone. Praying for anyone with an injured pup, my heart goes out your baby, and to you. I wish I knew why our girl did this so I could guaruntee it won't happen again. I forgot to add that in addition to her trazadone, gabapentin allergy meds, cushings med and thyroid meds, and anxiety medsn she is taking an antibiotic. We just increased the dose of her gabapentin and her trazadone to get her through this recovery phase. Sharing here just in case her story can help someone else.
My Golden just had same surgery. It's healing horrible. They did not bandage it. It was infected 2 days after so I had to pay extra for better antibiotics and then they put a steroid cream on it. His recovery has been very emotional. Hrs in pain and infection is not getting better. I'm so scared. 😢 I wish our pet hospital had a surgeon like you. This was great work
My Lous stitches still have to be removed on Tuesday. He use to walk right into vet like a happy boy. Now he's terrified. We had to go back to check on infection and I could barely get him out of the car. My boy is different. He's in pain! 😢😢😢
I like the needle use for a landmark. Great work
This is so interesting.
Great job doc! Any tips for keeping the bandage on post- tail amputation?
See this is the only reason doc or cut the tail
Excellent technique
My poor dog has this and I’m scared to get this done for him 🙁
My dog tail got cut off bc a cat bite it off
Please don't ever do that terrible thing to anyone 😭😭😭😭😭😭
❣️❣️❣️
Hello Sir I am from India
Lsa
My dog has a tail infection and won't stop bitting it I'm done helping that hardheaded dog
Lol it’s fake the dog is dead and you re cutting the tail it’s fake that’s not a dog alive it’s an already dead dog
Cuz this is really disturbing
What do they have a disclaimer saying this video might be not suitable for all audiences and it's bloody
😪😪😪😥😭😭😭😭
Thank you! Now I know how to amputate my own dog's tail eh
Why did you skip the sewing part? 🙁
Oh my god shadow
STOP shadow attack
During the most important part ,the detachment of tail cutting then skipped the whole sewing part also. Please show everything.
Dogs can feel their tails
That grossed me out
This is why I believe there is a good reason behind tail docking when they are puppies, situations like this when the dogs tail gets injured because of how long it is.
Poda patti
I thought dog tails grow back
Nice docking doc. It's always better to get dog or a dog breed with a curled tail like spitz.
Nice work
I do not see any point of doing that
Nice work, greetings from Italy.
My Great Dane is suffering with happy tail, I can’t even get close to him anymore because he gets happy and his tail wound starts bleeding all over the place, is horrible. He’s the sweetest dog on Earth and it kills me to see him so miserable, having to stay away from people (so that he won’t bleed on them) he had this once before, when he was younger and we managed it, but this time it’s not going away. It’s been more than a month and lots of blood!!
Would it be to risky to do a procedure like this on a great dane with 8 1/2 years???
So happy it wasn’t cut off for cosmetic reasons!
