Bit Cloud builds more visibility and control into AI-generated applications

Composable software pioneer Bit Cloud said today it’s building on the capabilities of generative artificial intelligence coding tools such as GitHub Copilot with the launch of a new AI agent that can go much further than generating snippets of code.

Bit Cloud said Hope AI is generally available starting today. It allows anyone to spin up and maintain complex applications and websites entirely from scratch, using nothing more than natural language prompts.

Hope AI, according to the compay, bridges the gap between simple, low-code tools and professional-grade software development. As opposed to coding assistants, which can only generate isolated snippets of code, the platform can create fully architected applications that are built for long-term scalability, with only a basic level of maintenance required.

Founder and Chief Executive Ran Mizrahi told SiliconANGLE that the biggest difference between Hope AI and something such as GitHub Copilot is that it enables teams to build entire applications in the same way that professional programmers do. All of its apps are based on composable architectures, or in other words, built from reusable components that any developer can understand.

That’s important, Mizrahi says, because it means that any software created using Hope AI is simple to maintain and evolve. “We’re helping teams stay in control of what the AI builds,” he explained. “Hope AI breaks software into smart, modular pieces so you stay fast without losing control.”

Mizrahi says that many AI tools today are known as “black boxes” because users have very little idea of how they work. The same thing applies to most of the applications built by AI. They lack transparency and structure, and no one knows for sure how safe the underlying code is, or if it has simply been rehashed from elsewhere.

“AI can speed up development, but without structure, it quickly becomes a black box,” Mizrahi said. ”You get output, but lose visibility. And when something or someone breaks the code, good luck figuring out how to fix it.”

Hope AI does things differently. It’s based on the same principles as the Bit Cloud platform, which is used by companies such as AT&T Inc., Experience Inc. and Red Bull GmbH to build and share robust and reliable application components that can be reused again and again. It acts as a centralized hub where developers can discover and collaborate on components and employ them across different projects.

These reusable components form the basis of Hope AI’s applications, making it possible to build complete system architectures for almost any kind of scenario. Users simply describe what they want to build in plain language, and Hope AI will design the architecture, assemble the necessary components and generate the underlying code, with complete documentation and test coverage. In this way, it can quickly spin up anything from customer relationship management systems to e-commerce platforms and healthcare surgery room management tools, piecing them together from various components.

Mizrahi believes composability is essential in software development, even for AI-generated applications. He argues that no one would mass-produce a car without a detailed assembly plan or standardized and interchangeable parts. “So why build software that way? Hope AI gives teams the parts, the plan and the ability to evolve it over time, without getting boxed in by the AI,” he said.

Having been tested in early access by a number of organizations, Hope AI is being made available to all Bit Cloud customers from today, with a free tier for anyone who’s interested in seeing what it can do. The platform integrates natively with tools such as GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps and JFrog Artifactory, so developers can have full visibility into the components that make up each application.

It goes further too, with support for modern application development tools such as Node.js, React, TypeScript, MongoDB and GraphQL. It also supports the open-source Model Context Protocol, which enables it to use these third-party tools without human intervention.
