Pure bred dogs are cool but it sucks that many have known health issues. Family German shepherd just died at about 6 years old.
The Labrador did not originate in Labrador. The breed came about when local fishermen wanted a smaller version of the Newfoundland Dog to help with water work. The Newfoundland is the apex of water dogs. They are immensely powerful swimmers with huge lung capacity and have a natural "bent" for rescue. However, trying to lift a 150+ lb ( I have seen Newfoundland's tip the scales at close to 200lbs), animal out of the ocean into a small boat is difficult and dangerous .
What was desired was a half sized Newfoundland. People bred the Newfoundland with The St. John's Water Dog here in Newfoundland. The result turned out to be ideal for water work; a short coat, webbed paws and outstanding swimming abilities The new breed was known as The Lessor Newfoundland for many, many years and was very popular here at home.
In the 1850's a British military officer who was stationed here discovered the dog and thought it would be a valued hunting companion back home. He started to acquire and export the dog to Europe. He felt the name needed to be changed to something more "exotic" and settled on The Labrador. The rest is history.

What about the American Village Dog? Not a breed, per se, I guess, as it’s the indigenous genetic strain of the Americas, but it’s fascinating that it still exists in such strength, and a lot of people adopt Satos, which tend to be genetically mostly American Village Dogs. They’re fabulous companion dogs.
I didn't see any Boston Terriers, or Terrier dogs get mentioned, although at the end, the long thin black and white playful dog spinning in the sand (beach), looked like a Boston Terrier, but wasn't mentioned or discussed!! Also the one playing with the clown in the circus may have been a Terrier! Unless it's known by something else.
Also I didn't see you mention or discuss the Pit Bull, or Bull Dog!? You did mention the English bulldog, not the same is it? Not the same as a pitbull anyway.
I currently have a Boston Terrier mix Corgi, most adorable guy ever. So I did appreciate the mention of Corgis, and they're relentless energy! It would of been nice to see what you could have said about Boston Terrier though, as that's his other personality!! 🤔

The term hypoallergenic dogs existed before the doodle craze and hypoallergenic is very real. I’m allergic to dogs (and many other animals) but I’m fine with dogs that grow hair like fur that keeps growing instead of getting to a certain length and shedding.
I’ve owned hypoallergenic dogs my whole life, a Samoyed, A Lhasa Apso, a Poodle and a Shih Tzu. Perfectly fine with all of them. Dogs that shed? My allergies get going and I’ve even broken out into a rash/hives from them. I think the only ones that are against it are allergy specialists because they don’t want their patients taking any type of risk and possibly experience anaphylaxis.
