Finally l good review of this game what a breath of fresh air from hearing all the negativity and complaints about this game and some of the complaints l can somewhat understand because when l played this game l was playing by trial and error as l played not really understanding the game that well in the beginning but learning as l went along and getting more proficient and better at the game the more l played it and then found myself enjoying it more and more the game does have it flaws but all games have flaws even games that have a 10 ratings have flaws the story ,characters and theme of the game is a bit odd and strange and off the wall but to me that is part of its charm and the reason l like it because it was so different from the games that are so a lot alike this game was unique in that respect so thanks for the review
I was initially hyyyyyped about this. Unfortunately… I only played for like two hours and didn't want to continue. I most likely won't get it until there's a price drop
It's mid
Same here I had a lot of fun. And we still haven't seen the other two categories of magic. So far in the demo we had fire and earth aka red and purple magic. We're missing blue and green. Which is water/ ice and lighting. The amount of spells and combinations we could make is going to be really something.
It was not delayed for "more time in the oven". It was delayed because it was set to come out like a week before GoW:R and Sony didn't want to compete against itself.
I think it was a brilliant move.
Pretty much everything these days that stands out a little bit seems overhyped. That's what happens when mediocrity becomes a standard. People starve for something good.
Day 1 amazing GOTY candidate the new demo rox and the devs fixed a ton already listening to us and making needed changes.
Everybody is hating on this game, it’s nice to hear people giving it a chance. I’ve played like 16 hours of the demo lol
Started the demo and quit after 45 minutes. Next day, put in 5.5 hours total. Becomes easier, more interesting, and has great potential. The world is HUGE, apparently. Devs are fixing text, HDR, including button mapping. Fwiw, the demo had NO STORY moments, nor any perceivable progression mechanics aside from crafting, fighting, and limited discovery. /ymmv
Quick question, do we need our protagonist to be so mean spirited, and foul mouth? Do we need the f-word every 13 seconds? It’s cringey and feels forced/unnatural (or needed).
(Is this because our protagonist is a brown skinned individual? As unintentional as I believe it may have been.) this dialogue is not ‘sass’, its trash.
Positive, the combat has a lot of potential, it seems like it could be fun (with some tweaks), however, I do not want to listen to my character constantly saying ‘f this’ and ‘f-ing that’ for 40+ hrs. I have cancelled my pre order. Let’s see what happens. 😒
I really like people like you that understands it’s just a demo there is nothing perfect about in a demo people are just too picky on there take of demos. I high hopes for this game im excited to explore the story and more spells at my disposal when the game comes out!
7:50 One thing I've found out, there's really alot of creativity in the combat and unique combos you could pull off, I'm around 16 hours into the game, and I've never thought of combining bombardier with crucible(flame wall) in that way.
I've seen multiple reviews, on youtube and reddit of people saying the combat in this game is easy, things like you just spam r2, etc. Yet they've not really explored the combat. Imo, I think the combat of this game is extremely deep, and complex and is the highlight of this game. The amount of spell combinations you can do is insane. One of my favorite combos is dashing into an opponent, using slice, then using the arial blast slice to push the enemy back, then quickly switching to rage slice to dash into the enemy for the full combo. You can cancel out enemy atks, even bosses, for example, you can use fusilade, press r2 to insta charge blast slice(flame lance move) to level 3, I did this right when a boss was about to do a range atk and fusilade canceled out the atk for me. Your environment and movement is a tool of combat as well, you can hide behind walls for example to dodge atks, and you can use zip mid-combat to dodge out of atks or to dash to an enemy.
At first, I was upset that this game didn't have a more in-depth tutorial to explain all of these functions to the player, but now I think that's a good thing, just like Elden Ring, this game rewards exploration, well at least this demo does, except its exploration is in its combat and traversal systems. There are things like being able to zip to tree to tree that I didn't figure out you could do till way later in the game, and things that didn't click, till even 13-15 hrs into the game. For example, using support magic, then atk magic insta charges to level 3, how much of a difference doing this made didn't click for me till way later in the game. I was constantly finding/learning new things as I played.
Also as to why Silas magic feels better, I feel it's honestly because we're in the area right after discovering silas magic, so I assume the game wants you to spec into it. So more enemies are resistant to Frey's magic. But I did try speccing 100% to Frey's magic and I found it more fun in a lot of ways, it's alot more of a tanky, utility build, while Silas magic is more damage. I did have to switch back to Silas because some fights were taking too long due to elemental resistance. My favorite move with Frey's magic is shield shot, because it's basically a free counter, if enemies hit you with it on, it completely pushes them back and knocks them, and it allows you to ignore some atks. There's also screen for extra defenses.
I also went into this game knowing basically nothing about it (aside from that one minor trailer a year ago), all I knew is some people were saying the game was bad, and then I learned there was a demo, and decided to give it a shot to form my own opinion. And I ended up preordering a game as a result, generally really excited for when the full gameplay comes out and have been constantly checking gameplay, trailers, etc.
Also you don't have to stick with either magic. You can switch magic with Dpad, touchpad, and with that pull move, and jump back move (l1+r1+square/l1+r1+circle), so if you're facing enemies weak to fire, you can switch to Frey's magic, use bind, parkour behind your enemies, switch to silas magic, then use your ult or atk magic, for some free extra back damage.
