Apologist alert lol
Sure, this movie was woke… at least it’s 10 times better than the 2000 trash movie
The movie is woke trash.
I'm from Connecticut and since have moved. I can say it isn't just a blue state it's a blue cesspool. Not to mention racist as hell.
The movie objectively has some woke elements. Diverse cast. Strong woman. That paladin had some vibes..
That being said.. I enjoyed the movie and it's fair to say they didn't push the wokeness.
What pisses me off and why Don't watch a lot of content these days is because they shove that woke shit into the story shoehorn style and fuck everything up. It's not part of the story it's just a commercial cut and pasted into the movie with no effort. That's the garbage I hate.
This movie made the shit work in the story narrative they had male characters that needed to go through character development shocker making them interesting characters. It's dnd a barbarian is supposed to be strong and a druid has magic.
Loved the message on failing and never giving up. I loved the pivot message.
Overall I enjoyed it and will watch it again. Wish I took my kid go see it in theaters… But we don't go to the theater unless I know a movie isn't woke.
🤡
I have watched the movie now 7 times. And it is woke to its core. People who don't want to admit it, are denying reality and facts. Even the creators specifically say that whole movie purpose was to be WOKE.
That said, the D&D world does support all kind characters. But let's just face the facts as well, that D&D rulebooks does set both genders same, and not same. There is the hot topic of that.
But same time that is denial of the reality, that women are weaker than men. That is just hard fact, that can't be overcome. Crazy feminists and woke people can scream as much they want about women being as strong, fast, agile etc than men are, but they are just denying the reality, that anyone in the actual sports can recognize.
That said, that is the problem in the D&D rulebooks and not in the movie itself, but it is doing exactly the woke theme to its core by emphasizing it.
The choreography is very woke, you have men being beaten up by women easily. You have women being the strongest, smartest and most clever characters all over the places. Where the men are presented as cowards and weak, when they are white. Not just physically, but mentally men are all over the places shown as weaker gender.
What comes to visuals, it was very good, the idea of the story is good entertainment (group trying to come up with plans to save a girl, but does end up saving the world same time) and the character classes were OK manner presented. But even there the woke attitude was made to twist the facts. Example Wizard is never a woman, it is a definition for a character for male. The corresponding is Witch, that does have negative sound. And Witch can't be a man, but is always a woman.
That is why equal for man is a Warlock.
"Tha faemnan, the gewuniath onfon gealdorcraeftigan and scinlaecan and *wiccan*, ne laet thu tha libban."
There is nothing wrong to make a skilled and capable woman character, but that needs to be based to reality so it is believable. So instead using raw strength, it should be more about agility, instead endurance it can have dexterity.
As well making a wizard weak by having low self-esteem was a great woke method to connect men to such lower traits that a wizards shouldn't have. It is just opposite to have a wise and careful thinker with strong mind to be raped with weak mind and character. Just the opposite for a physically weaker women to be physically stronger than men.
The D&D is great that you can try to create a unorthodox stories and characters, but even then they will fall to the reality based situations. And when the wanted "political correctness" is pushed down to throats, it is just bad excuse to deny that reality.
Even today the old movies and series that actually have strong woman characters, like Ripley in Alien, or Princess Leia in Star Wars, or even Jessica Fletcher, they are believable and do not deny reality like todays last decade fantasies.
Now notice that the main character in the movie, the Bard, worked very well. In many cases he was useless but it still was believable in most cases. But in scenes where he was made weak, was mainly to promote again the women to be the better.
The movie succeed to push woke agenda, but that is the horrifying thing that even if it would do it mildly (that it doesn't), it is again just raising the bar for required tolerance that people will demand everyone to accept who want woke mentality and agenda to be everywhere.
Need to as well remember, most fantasy players are nothing like their characters. They have been historically the "nerds" and "weirdos" that fantasy being something else than they are in reality. And that has been the great thing for the RPG that people can be something they ain't, but when that fantasy and role play is demanded to be taken seriously in the real world, that is when it becomes completely wrong. And people who think that fiction should be obeyed by others in reality… They need help.
This movie could have been a lot better without woke in it. Now it is like if someone would redo a Schindler's List movie where there is no violence, and instead guns the people would carry flowers and they would always smiley and be nice to each others – just so that the viewer would not feel bad.
Space Balls was great parody about Star Wars, but even that would fail today…
PS. IMHO the overly fat dragon was just too much… It was a woke insult made to fantasy writers. Who ever got the idea "Hey, let's make it fun by making a beast to be so oversize fat that it defy reality even in fantasy!".
I just tried watching it, and turned it off after 25 minutes.. its pure woke garbage
not woke but feministic
i watched it , it cringe woke , i think you watched a different movie , watch Dragon-slayer 1981 pre woke feminist alphabet soup agenda , and then tell me this not woke nonsense
You are an emasculated shill. If you think this is a not woke movie, you are failing, and blind :^)
I'm going to probably see the movie tomorrow. I looked at the Beyond stat blocks today, and I think you need to look at how many hit dice each has in order to know what level they're meant to be.
I agree
It's not woke and the men are not emasculated
I'd like to see them spin off with the 80's cartoon characters
Diversity and Dragons
"I'm sick and tired of people judging things without knowing anything about them." —- NO! Nope, You are 100% wrong.
Woke garbage is nearly 100% of what Hollywood/Disney put out so it is PURE commonsense to make the rational judgement call that the movie will be more woke garbage. Given ALL the previews show the one White male being the butt of jokes it REALLY drives home the idea the movie is woke trash to be avoided.
It is woke as hell.
All couples are multicultural/interracial.
All men, except the brown ones, were mostly useless and made to be mocked.
White men bad, brown men gud.
The fact that you don't see it just prove their agenda is working as intended.
it,s spread into commercials now everybody has to be inclusive now it,s very boring
I am worried that you are a woke supporter even when you say this isn't woke.
The Pine character is basically Hannibal plus Face from the ATeam
Were they emasculated because they left the heavy duty fighting to BA? No!
I would go see it but I am just too emasculated to make it.
If a company puts out a statemen that says they will intentionally emasculate the lead men, in order to prop up the female cast that's all the confirmation I need to know that yes, this movie will be woke as hell, and I will not put up my hard-earned money for a movie whose intention it is to insult me simply for being a man. Get woke Go Broke
CRT/Queer Theory – (Psychic Poison)
Save = DC 10 +1/exposure (+ Special, see below)
Onset: 1 wis, 1 cha
Frequency: 1/week or 1/major fake news story.
Effect 1d3 wis, 1d3 cha
NOTE: Effect will only continue until wis and cha reach 1. They will never go lower. The character will seem normal but be completely unable to think for themselves. They will only listen to what an approved commissar tells them to do.
Special: Anyone "Red Pilled" is virtually immune to these poison unless they roll 3 natural 1's in a row.
Good to hear the movie isn't woke.
The uproar is from 90%+ of today's Hollywood being woke. From woke washing characters, to forced agendas, to portraying narcissists as heroes. (And somehow acting worse than some of the villians in the same stories)
People are SICK to death of it.
As for being an "ally" to LGBTQ+ most of the LBG honestly don't want to have anything to do with TQ+. Hence gays against groomers and the like. Good to have friends, but queer theory is poison.
All companies need/try to make as much money as possible, but it must be balanced with treating their customers well. WotC has lost the balance. They lost it at least 5 years ago and the balance has slowed accelerated in favour of profits. It is going to take a lot of action on WotC’s part to fix this balance
He's a bard, in what world is a bard a better martial fighter than a female barbarian? These guys don't even respect dnd rules. They are just dumb dudes who can't get laid.
This movie deserves better than WotC/Hasbro, and it deserves better than an angry subset of fans. Those refusing to see it are welcome to their opinion. If you are on the fence and like the trailers, go see it, because it is the rare case where the trailers accurately predict the product quality.
Thanks Justin. I’m gonna check this out.
The idea that this movie emasculates men isn't a theory. It was stated by the creators of the film. That being said, there are two major points that should be made. First, we have no idea how much of that made it into the movie. And second, if some emasculation is the "wokest" element of the movie…that's pretty miraculous. Thank you for this video. I plan on giving this movie a shot thanks to this and similar reviews.
"Guys I dont like wot but I think we should support them blindly to show the MOVIE STUDIOS that there is a market for fantasy"
Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter does not exist to you?
"This movie is not woke just because the women are strong and the men are emasculated"
Not really a convincing argument.
Also a quick note. Repeating what someone said in silly voice dont counter what they said. It only make you look weird.
"I know they said they emasculated the character but I think they were just kidding guys"
You know we have seen the trailers where he was emasculated right? What do you thing emasculated means?
That said what do you think woke means? Give me an example of something that was to woke for you.
Your example on how "its not woke" is just a mentioning of a character you could not remember the name of (not a good sign for the movie) being able to turn into an owlbear.
This is off course a mistake on the movies part but instead of just letting it go wizards of the coast made a special rule to allow it even if it goes against the spirit of the druid class.
(Druids are all about nature and natural things. They dont like aberrations and mad wizards experiments.)
And then you go into your actual argument that have nothing to do with an owlbear at all?
An argument that dont really count as a high level sorcerer can be emasculated.. And casters are hardly paragons of masculinity anyway so why would him being on the same character level of another character matter at all when the actual action in the movie shows us the men being emasculated? We seen the trailer already. Only wimps and dillweeds as far as the eye can see.
No matter how powerful a sorcerer is it does not mean he is not emasculated. He can still be an feminine minded man.
Its about how the characters act on the screen. That is what a movie is. You are reaching hard to pull out that excuse.
You are either lying to yourself or you are defending this movie out of either loyalty to the wizards of the coast company or to wokeness in general.
Are you woke? Is that why you pretend?
Now I can see on your face that you on some level know that you are lying. But I dont know if you are lying to us or to yourself.
You’re the first to say this. I don’t know but I plan to go see it in a couple of weeks. My wife who doesn’t like D&D wants to see it so…
I’m still not happy with WotC either.
I'd like to hear your definition of what "woke" means, and an example of media that you DO think is "woke".
A lot of the bigger YouTube channels that have been screaming about its wokeness are drama/hate-click channels that make their $$ by sh!tting on everything; you can tell they've never even played D&D. I haven't seen the film, but Chris Pine's character is something we've seen since the beginning of film and literature – the overconfident and somewhat bumbling leader who is obviously not the leader-type; and I'm assuming that's his character's arc, he learns to become an effective leader and brings the team together for the final battle. And we had Red Sonja and Xena Warrior Princess as character archetypes in the 80's/90's so a female barbarian is not a new concept. A lot of the Disney stuff has gone too far by inserting sexual themes into children's programming, but this a PG-13 adventure fantasy film so it wouldn't have been a big deal.
Many people who cry 'woke' just aren't understanding that what we're seeing is a swing of the pendulum – until fairly recently, plots were almost always about the male/white/straight savior rescuing the damsel, with other minorities serving as antagonists or at best, comic relief. Yes, we've swerved hard into a corrective course, as is the norm (see the explosion of black culture after the 60's) but I'm sure we'll see things level out over time…I'm just happy to see all the previously under-represented folks finally getting to have more of what I've been able to enjoy all of my life without question: people who are like me doing cool stuff and being heroic.
Inclusivity is not a zero sum game…we can all let others have their fun too, and just stfu and enjoy it…or just don't watch. My masculinity isn't so fragile that I need to feel threatened by letting everyone have their share of the spotlight, even those NOT like me…especially them.
well you've gone and opened pandoras box with this one. I'm gonna have to disagree with you. I've not seen the movie, and I wont. I don't know if it was tongue in cheek or not, but just that the writers said that and that's fine says enough. If the joke were made the other way around, even as a joke, there'd be riots.
I also think you're looking at it through the lens of a GM who knows the mechanics inside and out, where as most people wouldn't be doing that. Hollywood has a long history of doing that to male characters and a lot of people, myself included, are getting sick of it.
