Excellent video. Your videos are the most helpful of any dog trainers, including those by television stars who are dog trainers. Everything you teach is working for our new to us puppy. We have not trained a pup for over thirty years and you are helping us accomplish that with patience while we build a new skill set to help our pup be successful. Exceptional training and your sincere kindness of heart is evident in your demeanor. You are our hero at this challenging time in life. Thank you so much! On a side note, I joined your Your Tube membership, got all signed up but cannot access it for some reason. Maybe a glitch or error on my part so will try again.
When my kelpie pup (14 months) sees something approaching from a distance, he crouches down or lies down. Usually he just stands up and wants to play and say hi when whatever it is gets to us. Sometimes, though, especially if he is not on leash, he will stalk towards it and I can't get him to recall. How do I get him to stop doing this?
Like you said, as a herding breed, he gets more startled by someone suddenly appearing out of nowhere than he does in a parking lot with many cars and people. His crouching behavior is way more likely in an empty park or trail when someone comes around a corner at a distance ahead of us.
My puppy offers a natural settle at my feet in new places while he observes a new place. If he is happy with this, should I still bring a mat and use that or should I stick with what he naturally finds relaxing (laying next to my feet)?
Your videos have helped so much with my newest dog! <3
Great
So if my dog doesn't look at me I shouldn't reinforce it? So how can I reinforce his attention for checking in with me ?
This channel may not be the most popular, but its the most trusted one <3 thank you so much.
I think we have opposite environmental problems 🤣 he loves to explore and I’m chopped liver in new places
Great video! Suggestions for larger breed dogs for which baby carriages, back packs, etc are not feasible?
this approach has been a gamechanger for us. weve had our new pup for 6 days now, and he is still scared of everything. but when we are out on a walk and he sees some new things. he sits down and we reward him for calmly observing. we also wait by his side until he is ready to move on. simply hearing children play two streets down would have scared the heck out of him just 3 days ago. now he can sit on the other side of the road and observe kids walking by without barking or growling! we still have a long way to go but he has been doing so good!
Hi Emily what level of treats would you use for this kind of training?
Can I use this with a sheltie? He runs away when he iw fearfull. How long it takes to remove the crate?
Hi, loving your videos. I was wondering if you could do videos on introducing family cats to the new dog. And how to get the one year old dog to not chase the cats.
I'm from Europe, I found your channel by mistake, Im so so so happy I founded you!, because of yours free education videos help me with my dog
! Im so thankful! I wish you the best. You saved me and my husky 😀
What if the dog is too nervous or excited to take the treats?
You are my favorite dog training channel! The way you explain things is so clear & training style works the absolute best with my dog! Thank you☺️
The first thing my dog wants to do when going to a new location is sniff. If I don’t let him, he just starts whining or barking at me. I have done relaxation in the front of my house and he does well. However, I’ve done relaxation after a long walk in a new place, and he will still cry at me if we settle in a spot after the long walk.
When I go to a new place, how long should I settle for? How do I avoid him whining or barking at me ?
Thumbs up 👍 and subscribed! Thanks!!
Love this! I also so love that you included adding a sniffy walk as well. ❤️Such an important step!
Our sweet dog (a Morky) is a rescue that we have had for close to 8 yrs now. We are unable to teach him to do ‘anything’. He doesn’t like to fetch, learn any tricks, etc. He had to have all his teeth removed from poor maintenance from original owners, so trying to give treats he’s just not interested. He does like to take walks, but that’s about all. How do we get him interested in doing/learning anything?? It makes me sad that he’s so disinterested in life. ☹️
Hi! Do you have any advice for introducing a pup to trains? I live in Sweden and would love to be able to take my future dog to different towns, but I feel like trains would be really loud and scary and I don't want to overwhelm the pup and give them a bad experience!
Hi, great video!!! thanks for sharing. I want to make a request, how would you teach a dog a remote 180º turn in any direction from the position he might be in, I mean he is remotely going away(sendaway) then make the commando to turn 180º(not recall) then give him a right or left command and when he is going that way give him again a 180º turn command, would you start luring by your side too? or could you teach him remotely? i have no seen any video about this, only the end product but not how is taught. If I was not clear enough here I share some videos about that, I think they call it directional training, they give the go, stop, right, left, turn(180ª) commands, the 180º is the one I want to know how would you teach it, great videos as always, thanks for sharing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u81gudgD_ME&t=2s
Amazing video and very helpful, informative video as always, thank you so much Emily!! ❤️😍🥰
Epic is so sweet, and I love that you are using your very small breed dog in training videos, most don’t! And most chihuahuas are very smart and trainable, If given the chance! 💕🐾
Great video! I was wondering how well counter-conditioning and desensitizing a dog in a stroller to people and dogs outdoors, carries over to the dog walking on leash (for small fearful/reactive dogs). Does it help to start training relaxation and cc/ds in the stroller first before doing the same exercises on leash? Is it harder to read the dog/gage whether the dog will go over threshold? Thanks very much!!!
My dog, Mowgli, has come such a long way thanks to all the information you put out! We adopted him as a 1 year old, about 8 months ago. He is a hyper bunny and we are starting to work on settling out side the home and also separation anxiety. We worked on conditioning inside and now he can sit on his mat while we cook and run errands! Thank you so much for being so informative and for teaching us that force-free training is the way forward!
Also, I would be totally star-struck if I run into you in San Diego! Very close to Balboa Park. 🙂
hi
I have dog
This was great! Thanks for putting this out there! I'm so curious about the comment you made regarding herding breeds and how they might not do well if you are in an environment with no people and then a sudden person comes out. I thought this was particular to my dog! For example, if we go somewhere in the car and get out and there are people there already, he tends to be fine with people. But if we go somewhere, get out of the car and don't see anyone right away, he will end up barking at every new person he sees after that!
The tip about not going to explore immediately is a game changer.
I've been doing it for the last two days since watching the video. Basically I get out of the house and we spend at least 30 seconds acclimating every 5 meters or so. His nose is going non-stop the whole time but when he finally acclimates he's able to shake off and relax. I have to walk less and he gets just as much if not more mentally, because he has to sit and watch the world go by. Then he's able to run off the stress of just sitting there in this enclosed space we have. I have to walk less and he seems to be more relaxed throughout.
You should make a dog training experience series. Like zack George's but actually good
this is really helpful. thank you for all the details! it helps to understand the whole process
Great thanks for your video!! I’ll try these!🐶❤️❤️🐾
great video thank you. our 7 month old cavapoo won't listen to me as soon as we are out of the back door. should I let him sniff for a while first? he will pull etc. or should I try the mat just outside when we've mastered it inside? he is either super sniffy when out, pulling, or staring at me-but high alert not relaxed
