: ) WELL DONE and can;t wait for Valve to offer it on PC Platforms ! I Bought a SteamDeck, JUST for the LINUX Desktop mode ! Mt Daughters had them, and when I saw the Desktop mode, I was SOLD ON IT 🙂 ALL the BEST ! ! ! : )
Just got last week a new PC.
Can I run Stream Os somehow ?
Got the latest Ryzen, 64 DDR 5, some Fast as F Ssd and got windows 10 cause that’s what I have licensing on. Worked great.
Did the update last night and it’s working like crap.
Why windows than ?
I hope it’s a way to run Steam Os
9 De Junio De 2025
This is so great. I'm already planning, when Microsoft forces our hands to Win11 later this year, to switch over to Linux Mint as my main OS. I'm so sick of windows. And SteamOS is so clean
I really want steamOS to replace windows 10 after it looses support.
I don’t care about the anti cheat situation, don’t want kernel anti cheats on my PC anyway-or care to play the games that have that requirement.
I use arch btw lol
Steam Deck went from portable console to reviving handhelds
I STILL USE MY STEAM CONTROLLER I LOVE THE DAMN THING!!! I'M PISSED OFF THEY ARE DISCONTINUED… SUCH BULLSHIT FUCK SCUF!!
I mean, if you don't care about games that use anticheat you can do all this now. You're not wrong that Windows 11 sucks as an operating system. IMHO, the friendlier Linux distros like Kubuntu passed up Windows a few years ago in terms of desktop experience. You can install that right now on a wide variety of PCs, and you can run Steam on it just like with Windows. It's no harder to install or use. And, sure, you have to learn a new operating system but the learning curve for Linux is no steeper than learning MacOS, or Windows for that matter (if you're not a Windows user already.)
Or, if you want the full console experience you can also install SteamOS as a primary operating system today. I turned my gaming PC into a Steam Machine over the weekend. It's not quite as easy as Kubuntu but it's not far off and once you have it installed it works really well. I think you might need to have an AMD graphics card, though.
An easier option might be Bazzite Linux, which also offers a Steam Console experience but with better hardware support. And that's the thing about Linux, guys. You really don't need to be a computer wizard to learn how to use it, you just have to learn to use it. It's not rocket science. Once you've got it this whole world of free software and freedom to choose and customize your OS opens up. You lose a little bit of "it just works" (and does Windows 11 really 'just work' these days?) but what you get in return is "you can do anything."
I stopped playing shooters about a decade ago. So SteamOS is quite the option I'm watching.
REAL WONDERSWAN GAMERS RISE UP
that's crazy to hear a tech YouTuber saying win11 KINDA blows…
Now, if steam could launch SteamOS for PCs and have a gamepass equivalent, I'll completely rid myself of microsoft.
Clickbait
and it will only take up 4 gigs of RAM to run the updater… constantly… I'll stick to linux…
Id rather just use linux mint, then install steam….
My main issue with Microsoft is they charge you for game pass and you don't get any unless you pay 50 dollars to use stuff and they just increasing the price on everything I'd rather pay steam knowing I'll get what i want for a reasonable price instead of paying more than 20 dollars and up for nothing with them charging you for widow's updates and more is going to be wild since its going to be 20 and up for a update.
Anything to dump MS. But, it foes have to actually work.
never had linnux but if it gets me out of paying $100 and no extra bullshit sign me up
I desperately want SteamOS. However it needs to also support my productivity tools.
TLDR- it's definitely different this time around, nobody was asking for or looking for a Steam Machine back in the day, now we're practically begging for it…
I think Valve is in a very strong position right now, but they're just being overly cautious due to past lessons learned. Both "Steam Deck OS" and Big Picture Mode are already great, top tier solutions for PC gaming on TVs or handhelds with a game pad.
In the past, consoles actually had the advantage of compelling exclusives and simple physical media during the Steam Machine era, and the pay monthly for online access BS was avoidable up until the PS4 (not coincidence it was the last new console I ever bought). I still own, or can access & play, almost every game I've ever added to my Steam account since the beginning with CS-2 & HL-2 ("WTF is 'Steam'? I HAVE TO install this? I'll just delete it after I play HL-2…x-). Then on top of that Windows has just gotten more bloated, locked down, and intrusive since Windows 7/8.
And that's not even taking into account all the huge improvements Steam has made alone over the years, including consumer facing features like "Remote Play Together", family profiles, etc. Hell, you can even still play games offline in 2025, freely off of multiple drives and across multiple systems- something Sony and Microsoft have been fighting against (tooth and nail) for years now.
They're ready to go, right now, for anything that's primarily an entertainment device (console, handheld, HTPC, even smart TV) no problem IMHO, but if they can tie all of that together with a serviceable desktop environment I'm ready to move Windows to #2 in boot priority on my main PC and replace it with Steam OS right away.
In my mind, Steam OS is a slightly better version of what I imagined Android TV shulda/ coulda/ woulda been if Google actually tried to curate and set some standards for the platform, or just sold their own verified TVs. I'd love to see Steam Deck APUs inside TVs for an extra 200-ish bucks or so, I know it won't happen but I can dream. Right now the sky is the limit and Valve couldn't ask for a better time to take over both the hardware and software markets. I'm crossing my fingers!
If I could have replaced windows with Linux years ago, I would have done it.
I cant wait to try SteamOS
SteamOS on my gaming desktop would be amazing..🎉🎉🎉
Didnt realy expect Linix to have more share on steam than MacOS ^^
i am proud of steam.
Man, I would love to have it in my PC, instead of Windows
Steam OS becoming a gate way drug for Linux is going to make Valve worth so much.
