The shame was it was really a good movie. Enjoyable, fun characters, neat plot. it had some heart. The DND stuff was good. Too bad they ticked off everyone before the movie came out.
Hello, it's me from the future. It did bomb pretty badly with about 4-5 month gains of a bit below 100m on a budget of 150m
"I dont think boycotts are effective".
Movie bombs. Apparently boycotts are effective. I know the tabletop gamer community is small but if we werent boycotting and if we were bringing our friends and buying merch, it does make a huge cumulative effect. It's too bad because Michelle Rodriquez is one of my absolute favorites.
Wouldn't you like to see some of the old Dungeons and Dragons modules made into movies, like "Against the Cult of the Reptile god", "Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh" or "Keep on the Borderland" or "The Isle of Dread" instead of the D&D trash coming out of Hollywood now?
it was great, i thought…Ill give the ole arguement of "could be worse, could be the 1980's" I feel like an IP with a strong fan presence is GOING to have backlash, but for what it was, it was pretty damn good!!!
DnD monkes boycott the film because “muh emasculation”.
I boycott the film because DnD needs to die.
We are not the same.
OGL or not, I saw the last car crash and I will see this. Why? Because I love D&D and I think this looks pretty cool.
I can’t remember the last time Hollywood made a good movie. It’s all infused with woke garbage now.
I saw it. I enjoyed it. It will not bomb, I believe. We shall see.
note on the poll… they literally have to roll a "20"
The problem with this movie is it looks like an HD remaster of the 2000 movie which… was… really bad… to put it mildly. It also focuses on the same movie tropes that have been done to so much death it's just not fun anymore. I bet there will be at LEAST 5 different literal cliffhanger moments and I am just over that nonsense, and I feel most people are.
Has. Have forgotten that the next generation of players are the children of the current players and with the history of past D&d films this new film will be the KT.2 event! Watch it fail at the box office as their suckers watch it with their wallets. 🤣🤣
There is a staggering shortage of good or even decent rpg-style movies – Conan the Barbarian is still to be topped. So that said, it may be good to lay aside the OGL controversy and support the D&D movie if it is entertaining on its own merits. Most Hollywood producers don't "get" rpg subjects but they do get profitability – and the only way to open the door to more movies with swords and magic is for an rpg flick to show a strong profit. Heck, I've tinkered with D&D since Chainmail – I endured Red Sonja and the Sword and the Sorcerer, so give me more movies to choose from, not less.
People will boycott the movie but same people will recommend lovm that is on amazon prime
I was indifferent at first and then the OGL stuff came out. I still was. But I saw a better trailer during Ant-man and I'll probably go see it. I thought it looked pretty good and not dumb at all. But it all remains to be seen
Why are people boycotting this movie? Because they decided to hate it before giving it a chance? I’ve been looking forward to it.
Why is boycott ineffective? We boycott DnD subscription etc and in a way, that reversed WoTC's decision on OGL 1.2.
If you want to harm Wizbro, boycotting the movie won't do it. All it will do is ensure that anything else in that vein (the Paramount+ TV series, for example) will be cancelled or have less effort put into it so that it is then cancelled. Wizbro have already been paid their licensing for the IP; the actors et al have all been paid. The only one you hurt is the movie production company. I am a 1e DM (Greyhawk) and after Wizbro told me that I (and people like me) need to leave the hobby, I will never buy a product from them ever again. But I will see this movie and I hope it is really good and entertaining. If it is not – and there is precedent for that – then it will die naturally.
If they keep treating the D&D IP as "for kids" they should keep expecting to fail every time try and expand it beyond the tabletop.
It will do fine. Or as fine as any D&D movie does. Of the people that watch movies, roleplayers are a tiny percentage.
It gives Paramount a reason to sue if it does Bomb.
Unless the movie is a hot mess, it's not going to bomb. The rage quitters out there throwing fits over the OGL thing will not make a dent.
Always reasoned analysis. Why I subscribe. And, I’m mystified by Avatar sequel’s monetary success as well…
I’d rather watch a Hawk the Slayer sequel.
I'll definitely see it someday but not in theaters.
I will ad don't punish the new DnD movie. Let that stand on its own, and not the actions of WoTC. In fact, because a movie like that can enhance our enjoyment of the fantasy genre in general, and Dnd in particular, so that more movies might be made, don't boycott the movie. Hasbro wants to moneatize, and movies can help bring in that, without the scorched earth policy they seemed to want to implement, so if the money generated by the movie can help them achieve a goal like that more power to them, but then they should not squander that money, nor any generated good will and view it as a means to their more nefarious ends.
If they focus on simply making good content, not leeching off the content off others, or their success, then they should make more money simply by the fact that more people get into a hobby which ultimately translates into sales for other companies products including WoTC. Put another way, if Spider Man backpacks exist, people will buy them and this indirectly helps Marvel out as people might get inspired to then buy other Marvel-related products, including Comics and other Marvel owned product lines.
Are they really Forgotten Realms. Technically you remembered them so really they are Remembered Realms or Known Realms perhaps, The vast multiverse of Known Realms.
I jumped ship when WOTC bent the knee to the woke nonesense. I was personally offended when dmsguild started posting disclaimers on their legacy/TSR products for sale, claiming that these products had racist content. These old TSR products are apparently problematic and racist but not so problematic and racist that they will stop selling them. 5e may have brought me back into the hobby but they are not the only fantasy rpg in town. I think the OSR will grow considerably with the resent OGL debacle. Even Pathfinder being the spiritual successor to 3.5 is in the spirit of OSR. WOTC may own the D&D name but no one needs WOTC to play the game. Like others have said, just watching the trailer makes me feel like this movie will bomb on its own.
“Reggae” Jean Page 😂
Don’t worry about Hasbro if their movie fails. They’ll just turn to the Disney woke handbook and say all the fans that boycotted the film are angry white males. Then they’ll put Rodriguez on stage to say it was because the fans couldn’t stand to see a strong woman of color. They will call us white racist bigots with homophobic and trans phobic tendencies for good measure.
You need another torch. 🛀
Lets be honest..boycotting a d&d movie is like boycotting a brick and mortar hobby shop at this point
Maybe they will sue youtube movie reviewers of their movie
