Honor built the first sub-10mm foldable back in 2023, the Magic V2. Now the company is ready to dip below 9mm – it already showed off the design of the Honor Magic V5 and confirmed that it will measure 8.8mm thick when closed. Will it become the thinnest horizontal foldable when it is unveiled on July 2 (Wednesday next week)?
There’s a good chance of that happening – the current thinnest model is the Magic V3 at 9.2mm. However, there are plenty of competing models on the way and it will be exciting to see them fight for the crown.
Honor has been carefully doling out details about the Magic V5 in the buildup to the launch. Digital Chat Station has been less patient and posted the key details as well as hands-on photos of the real device.

The slim 8.8mm build will be fairly light at 217g. That’s lighter than some slab designs (the Galaxy S25 Ultra is 218g, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is 227g), but there are already horizontal foldables in this ballpark.
The V5 will have an impressive battery capacity of 6,100mAh – impressive not just because it fits in such a slender frame, but also because of the weight. Samsung is rumored to have concocted a thin design for the Galaxy Z Fold7, but sticking with 4,400mAh battery capacity will be unpopular. The V5 battery will allegedly support 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.

The Honor Magic V5 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, possibly the Leading Version variant. The camera system will be fairly capable, according to DCS, with 13mm ultra-wide and 3x/70mm periscope.
The phone will offer a 6.45” cover display and will open up to an 8” main display, according to unofficial info. There will be a side-mounted fingerprint reader.
We have seen rumors that the main camera will have a 200MP sensor, but a more recent leak contradicts that. Instead, the phone will have a 50MP main, 50MP ultra-wide and… either 50MP telephoto or 64MP, there are conflicting reports on that. The two selfie cameras will use 20MP sensors.
If the above leak is correct, the Magic V5 will impress with an IP68/IP69 rating. The current state of the art ingress protection for foldables is IP48, but we’ve been hearing that several companies are going for IP69 this generation. Anyway, the V5 will also sport an IR blaster and NFC, according to these unconfirmed specs.
Again, Honor will unveil the Magic V5 next week. There will be other new devices too, like the MagicPad 3.
