I've played s few of the computer games, mostly the original, and I've now played the board game a few times. With respect I disagree with your objections a bit. A full game of worms on the computer always felt cluttered and somewhat chaotic so the, yes, limited play space is justified I think. There is a certain amount of randomness with the dice rolls, but this is also mitigated by other factors e.g. no booby-trapped ammo crates. A careful study of the game mechanics can also swing the probability in your favour in unexpected ways, e.g. you're more likely to drift with the wind than score a direct hit. There are low risk strategies and high risk ones, but the high risk could potentially yield better results, just like the computer game. I like the fact the the game components feel well made and bring the game to life, not just the minis but also the cardboard components feel relatively solid. Of course you can't take it too seriously, but then I never did with Worms. Is it worth the money? That will always be a subjective judgement.
Good review! It seems like they translated the video game mechanics pretty well, too bad it seems very RNG heavy on a too small map, as you say. But looks like it could be a fun casual play, especially with 4 players (if that's worth 60$+).
God im a sucker. I love painting minis and I would want this game just for that -.-. I bought a used copy of DOOM the board game, never played it but I like painting the minis haha
