GSD’s are the very best dog breed for a family that is committed to caring for them lovingly. Have been around them all my life since I was 2yrs old (am now 80) and still have 2 of them. I have 2 autistic grandchildren and my Shepherds take care of them. Awesome breed. They are the most loyal dog ever and that can be a problem for some people because they are on you like “white on rice” all the time. Expensive to maintain and will utilize much of your time and energy. Do not get one unless you are totally committed to them
We have 2 rescue sister young GS. They romp around our 5 acres. Shasta and Star are simply AMAZING. They are sensitive, smart, loyal…and they think that I am the best human on the planet!❤❤❤❤❤g.
German Shepherd owner. This one is my second female. I am 83 and she is a challenge because she is a reactive dog. However she is loyal, extremely smart, I've been working with agility equipment with her. She will be 2 the 3rd of July. She is making progress on the reactivity issue but it slow. Small dogs are the main issue. We start our day with mile and a half walk. Besides doing agility she runs beside me on the bike. Only do about a mile and a half to 2 miles due to her age. Have no issues in the house, stays right beside me, Same if we are outside and I am sitting or standing. Loves to play fetch, and tug. She also loves to ride.
You did not mention how they have to be in water 24,7!! our GSD was ALWAYS playing in water! LOL

I always loved and had pitbulls but when I had my German Shepard it was more then just a dog it was literally my body guard my best friend and my comforter when I was depressed. He died at the age of 3 from a spider bite yesterday and I am devastated

We adopted a Blue/ Grey GSF 5 weeks ago. She is three years old and was kept in a backyard as a breeding machine.
She is WONDERFUL! So smart, loving, affectionate, great with children, wants to meet everyone and every dog.
After three weeks we realised we had to let her sleep in our bedroom.

My neighbour has a German Shepherd named Simba but they keep it in their backyard all the time which is covered with a wired net from all sides, where he's always alone. They don't even let him inside the house or take a walk. But I play with him in the evening from outside, he gives me his ball to play from the space in the gate but after I grab the ball he tries to pull it back and I quite don't understand this behaviour of him, I don't even pull the ball back cuz it might hurt him. Can anyone explain his behaviour?
I understand he needs more outings and attention but I can't do anything about that all I can do is to play with him in my free time until I'm here.. 🥺 I'm really worried about him 😔

I was shocked to see the woman in this video do TWO THINGS you should never do to your German Shepherd. 1.) Hugging a person is one of the best things in life. But putting your arm around a German Shepherd is a domineering, aggressive move 2.) allowing them to pull you on a leash lets them think they're in charge

Incredibly intelligent and so eager to please. Had a couple lovely gsds years ago and currently have 2 rescues. My husband is disabled so I'm the one to provide exercise. The first time I swam with them (in one of the many rivers in Maine) they both kept taking my forearm in their teeth to attempt to "save" me from drowning by dragging me to the shore. I had to turn over onto my back to kick them away. They were so stressed and determined to "save" me. They finally figured out that I wasn't in danger and let me be. I was so blown away by this because we'd only had them for a few weeks! Gsds are amazing dogs.

Need help please. Just adopted a 9 month old male shorthaired GSD. Never had any pets before. We are located in a hot country where summer temperatures can reach up to 50. Any tips please regarding his diet, how often should we bathe him and best shampoo to use? Grooming tips like do we need to trim his hair or something esp during summer and how to keep him cool during the hot days? He is mostly kept outside as he is being raised in a farm even when he was a puppy. Our area doesn’t have a lot of pet shops so nowhere to bring him and ask for advice. Would really appreciate any advice. Thank you.
