Apple is surveying Vision Pro owners, and some of the questions go beyond the device’s comfort or resolution. In addition to features like Guest Mode, and which accessories people actually use, Apple wants to know what its users see in rival products (even in categories where it doesn’t compete yet).
Apple is already exploring ways to compete in the smart glasses market
As reported by MacRumors, Apple is asking Vision Pro users whether they also own products like the Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest Pro, PlayStation VR, Valve Index, and ByteDance’s Pico, all of which compete in the same general category, to some extent.
But Apple doesn’t stop there, and reportedly also is inquiring users about smart glasses, like the Meta Ray-Bans, Amazon Echo Frames, and Snapchat Spectacles. These products aren’t direct competitors to the Vision Pro, but they could soon be up against Apple’s own smart glasses, which are rumored to launch in 2027.
Interestingly, not all Vision Pro users appear to be seeing the same version of the survey. As user jimmypopjr shared on Reddit:
“huh, I got a AVP survey today, but there was no mention of additional Vision products. Was centered around how would I improve the current version.”
Product surveys are common, but this one wasn’t
Apple regularly runs product surveys, including one sent to Vision Pro users as recently as last October, which focused on satisfaction and general usability.
That round included questions like:
- How often do you use your Apple Vision Pro while the battery is connected to a power source?
- What is your favorite feature or aspect of Apple Vision Pro so far?
- What one thing, if anything, would you add to or change about Apple Vision Pro?
Still, the timing of this new survey is hard to ignore.
Just yesterday, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo outlined Apple’s headset roadmap, which includes a spec-bumped Vision Pro with an M5 chip in 2025, lightweight smart glasses and a more affordable Vision model in 2027, and a second-generation Vision Pro by 2028.
Kuo also mentions two additional XR products and a display accessory device, though development of the latter is currently on hold.
Do you own any of Apple’s competing devices? What is your experience like? Let us know in the comments.
