Samsung suddenly found itself playing catch-up in the foldable space with devices from Chinese brands significantly outdoing its hardware and matching its software. Now the South Koreans are finally ready to strike back with the brand-new Galaxy Z Fold7. This is arguably the biggest update to the Z Fold series in years, with larger screens, a thinner chassis and a 200MP main camera.
At 215 grams, Galaxy Z Fold7 is lighter than a Galaxy S25 Ultra and 24 grams lighter than the Z Fold6 from last year.
The new Armor FlexHinge and Armor Aluminum frame housing helped the Z Fold7 slim down. It measures 8.9 mm thick when folded and a mere 4.2 mm thick when unfolded.
Z Fold7 measures 8.9 mm in its folded state and just 4.2mm when unfolded
These dimensions are in line with the latest crop of foldables from China like the Honor Magic V5 and vivo X Fold5, so Samsung can finally contend on that front.
But the Z Fold7 is more than just a slim and light foldable, it also gets the largest displays in the series. The main screen now measures 8.0 inches while the cover display comes in at 6.5 inches, and more importantly, it features a wider 21:9 aspect ratio, making it more ergonomic for typing and general usage.
Both panels are still of the Dynamic AMOLED 2x variety with a variable 1-120Hz refresh rate, and they get plenty bright at up to 2,600 nits. The cover screen features Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 protection and a 10MP selfie camera.
Samsung used a new generation of its Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) on the main 8.0” display, which is 50% thicker than before. Samsung also removed the under-display camera on the main screen and opted for a more traditional 10MP punch-hole solution. Sadly, S Pen support is also gone.
Fold7 is still IP48 rated against water and dust. The back of the Z Fold7 gets Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
While we’re talking about the back we can go over the cameras. Samsung added a 200MP sensor (ISOCELL HP2) for the main camera – the same one it uses on the S25 Ultra. This is a 24mm equivalent 1/1.3″ sensor with f/1.7 aperture and OIS. It is joined by a 10MP 3x telephoto lens (67mm) and a new 12MP ultrawide module (12mm).
There’s not much surprise in the chipset department as Samsung went with the trusty Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, which is configurable with 12/16GB RAM and 256/512 or 1TB storage. Fold7 does get some gains on the connectivity front with support for the newer Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 standards.
The software side is covered by One UI 8 based on Android 16 with the full Galaxy AI suite. Samsung is promising 7 Android OS updates and 7 years of security patches. Fold7 users are also getting 6 6-months of Google’s AI Pro tier for free.
While Samsung brought a ton of upgrades to the Fold7, the battery is still stuck at 4,400mAh with the same old 25W wired, 15W wireless and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.
Galaxy Z Fold7 will be available in Blue Shadow, Silver Shadow, Jet Black and Mint colors, with the latter being a Samsung.com online exclusive.
The baseline 12/256GB model starts at $2,000/€2,100/£1,800, while the top-of-the-line 16GB RAM and 1TB storage trim will sell for $2,420/€2,520/£2,100.
Pre-orders are now live with open sales starting on July 25.
