Title: A couple of not so good
Review: I’ve known the name Crucial for about as long as I’ve been in the computer business yet I can’t say for sure if I ever ordered from them by brand. I do know their reputation is good. I’ve been spending my spare hours cleaning up files on my endless array of hard drives and SSD’s, I just got finished cleaning 205,000 files and I have more to go. One of the pitfalls of being a professional photographer and cinematographer and running a business is managing a lot of data. Today I went to open an often used Excel file and guess what, it was gone. And it was a super important one. So I stopped everything and did something I have meant to do for a long time. Get this SSD to do continuous backups of those things that I absolutely can’t lose, ever. I do have a good manual backup routine, hence all those backup drives but what was missing is being able to keep a history of my work on a daily basisI wanted something small that I could plug in to one of the USB-C ports of my Z2 G9, a very capable workstation. I have three such fast ports so no worries there. I didn’t need anything fancy or a cool belt lanyard or bright colors or lots of fluff ware and I don’t plan to drop it but there are no moving parts so that doesn’t concern me. What I did want is speeds keeping with the latest standards, because why not, and I wanted media that’s as relatively safe as possible, which I will never believe is a hundred percent possible with any storage drive, disk or solid-state. I scoured as many tech articles as I could find and the X9 seems to be one of the most highly regarded there is. I avoid the brand that starts with s because it seems everything I buy from them I regret and I try not to do business with them.THE NEED FOR SPEEDI stay miles away from any discussion having to do with speeds for a gadget like this. It’s all a game with no winner. It’s like saying my brother can run faster than some guy in Cincinnati or my Yugo is faster than yours. There is only one answer to storage media speed – your speed will depend on stuff. Everybody’s computers, phones, files, and everything else are different, and a bench test is just that, unless that’s all you’re going to do with this thing. In real life the speed you get will depend on stuff. Knowing my workstation’s ports can support it I did do a quick test and found that I was able to achieve some fast read speeds. Then in real life I did a full backup using TrueImage and my overall average was about 203 mbps. Any other speedy capabilities of this device were pretty much wasted.OH PLEASEThis is where I air my disappointments. Why is this thing plastic instead of aluminum or magnesium or titanium? What’s inside is three cents worth of silicon, couldn’t they spend another five cents on a decent case? And, what happened to including a basic version of some brand of backup software? I got the impression from their poorly done product page that they were saying they include Acronis, well they do but it is so stripped down that it is for all practical purposes worthless. They push hard on upgrading it, but it’s very clear that Acronis’ target client base is the IT departments of major corporations not us lowly consumers. The upgrade process went terribly, Unlike other software if you don’t pay the annual ransom they deactivate the whole product instead of letting you continue to use it. That subscription includes some questionable virus ware I don’t want or need, automatic renewal and worst of all it is set to allow them and anyone they sell your information to the right to spam you forevermore. And if you change your mind one second after paying for it you’re out of luck, they won’t give you your money back. They also include a three month trial of some photo cloud storage app that I would never use for my client work because of privacy concerns. And oh yeah, they will give you a whole whopping month of Adobe if you give them a whole lot of private information and agree to get their ads pushed to you by email.Storage Executive is another app you can download. I found it of dubious value, it features things that I can already do on my computer without having their app in the way, and by installing it you give them the right to automatically get access to your SSD for upgrades, this also is a privacy concern to me.Although this review is for the SSD, if my intent is to use it as a backup device, I found it was necessary to discuss this company’s poor choices when it comes to their embedded software apps. If you don’t use them this doesn’t apply to you.YES NO MAYBEThe case is very lightweight and angular in shape, and very lightweight. If I bought this as my travel drive I would have been very disappointed that it is plastic. And I may have been disappointed that the included C-to-C cable is only a few inches long. But the cable is good quality, with strong strain reliefs and a robustly braided covering. I used a piece of #M Command tape to mount the drive to the bottom of my workstation where I could leave it permanently plugged in to a dedicated data port on the back of the computer. And I spent the thirty-nine bucks to get a paid version of TrueImage because it works for me. With my x9 mounted out of sight it is always plugged in and backing up, that was my intent when I bought this so overall I am fully satisfied.Despite the things I wish they would fix how can I say no to this thing? It’s a piece of functional gear that I need and it has a job to do. If it ends up not doing that job it goes back and I let the world know, wimple as that.

Title: Never seen an external drive this fast. Tiny!
Review: Needed some larger store for travel. The LaCie was listed as a portable rugged drive, but was way too heavy and big. The Crucial is tiny! See the picture which shows the comically large LaCie.This is a Micron drive. I am a big fan of Micron as this manufacturer makes enterprise drives with excellent endurance.I did a speed test and didn’t even turn on drive write-caching on the device. This is so blazing fast, write caching make sense only with high random write loads. So for most purposes this unit will be fast enough without write caching enabled. If I were to attach it to a workstation, may switch that on.

Title: Nice little device to backup.
Review: Great size and oustanding performance. One of the best option to backup.Crucial has a remarkable history as Memory provider and was a legacy fromMicron, ancient company that sold PCs back in the 90s. I would recommend thisCrucial X9 to anyone interested in backup and protect important documents anddata. Also the device have a nice design and was approved on several engnieeringtests. Title: Plug & play speed
Review: Amazing. Took it out of the box, plugged it into my MacBook Pro, and got over 900MB/s with my first benchmark test. I was also blown away by how small it is, about the size of a matchbox. It’s now my Premiere Pro editing drive, and I haven’t had a single hiccup. I’m editing 1080p, and there’s no noticeable difference between editing on this external drive vs. the MacBook’s internal drive. I’ll definitely be getting a few more of these.

Title: Good, but can’t sustain advertised maximum throughput.
Review: Works well, but we don’t get the advertised speed on our computers. I’ve tried this on both Mac and Windows, and on both, the best performance using USB C and USB A cables was about 200 MB/s write and 340 MB/s read. That was very consistent over hundreds of gigs of testing. The particular model we have is 2 TB, and we haven’t written enough to fill that, so perhaps the speed goes down when you get close to full, but at least for our use, it’s reliable so far (few weeks of use), and the performance is acceptable, even if not as fast as advertised with sustaining writes over hundreds of gigs.

Title: Very Compact SSD, Fast Read/Write Speeda
Review: I purchased this Crucial 1TB SSD to replace a Sandisk SSD that suddenly failed. The Crucial SSD is a smaller physical size than the Sandisk unit, and has the same rated Read/Write speeds. I use this SSD to back up my MacBook using Time Machine, and it works very well. It comes with a short USB-C to USB-C cable. It also has holes to attach a lanyard, but it doesn’t come with a lanyard.I purchased it because of Crucial’s reputation for building reliable devices.

Review: Uso il Crucial X9 da 1TB principalmente con un Mac, formattato in APFS, e le prestazioni sono davvero ottime: in fase di test ho registrato velocità tra 1.100 MB/s e 750 MB/s, più che sufficienti per editing video, trasferimento di grandi file e backup rapidi.È incredibilmente compatto e leggero, ma al tempo stesso dà una sensazione di solidità grazie al guscio in alluminio. Perfetto da portare nello zaino o anche in tasca senza preoccupazioni.Apprezzabile anche il fatto che non scalda in modo eccessivo nemmeno dopo trasferimenti prolungati, e resta completamente silenzioso. La compatibilità è ottima: lo uso su macOS, ma l’ho testato anche su Windows e con smartphone Android via USB-C.Un prodotto ben progettato, veloce e affidabile. Review: I got this because i was becoming worried about an older hard drive I have that was starting to take a long time to appear on my desktop and was making occasional clicking sounds which i know is a bad sign, so rather than lose my data i got one of these little ssd drives and Im very happy with it, i got another one to connect to my TV which I have put music on, thousands of MP3 files, and it has been great. Copying to the drive is very fast and reading from it is almost instantaneous, excellent ! i want the 8tb one now but will have to save up a bit for that ! Very simple to get started with, you just plug it in to whatever device you are using and its there immediately.

Review: Matizar que lo quiero especialmente para grabar vídeo 6K y 4K con mi cámara Lumix S5II X. Por lo tanto las pruebas están hechas con el formateo de la cámara, que es exfat. NTFS debería dar aún mejor resultado pero no lo he probado (ni lo necesito). Tampoco tengo puertos thunderbolt así que no puedo opinar sobre eso. Es un puerto 3.2 tipo C de hasta 10Gbps*Decir que lo he conectado también a mi Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (antes del formateo con la cámara) y lo ha leído a la primera como una unidad más sin hacer nada. Así que fabuloso si quieres meter alguna peli para un viaje largo.En Exfat arroja 670/650 MBps sostenidos. Probado transfiriendo un archivo pesado de 50Gb. Que ha durado literalmente un par de minutos.La cámara ha leído bien el disco que es lo que me importaba, y marca grabación en 4K 4:2:2 a 150Mbps de 13h. 6k 4:0:0 10h. Así que sobrado en ese sentido.Estuve pensando en el Sandisk Extreme o en el Samsung T7 shield. Más caros por la resistencia al agua y polvo que no necesito de momento. Y en velocidad me ofrecían lo mismo. Así que me he ahorrado un dinero.El otro modelo con el que compite es el pequeñísimo Kingston XS1000. El problema es que este trae USB A y mi cámara usa tipo C, por lo que tenía que comprar un cargador aparte que encarecen el producto. La versión XS2000 si incluye cable tipo C a C que es lo que busco pero sube de precio y no necesito esa velocidad.El cable algo cort. He podido colocarlo en la zapata de la cámara sobre un soporte universal de Neweer, colocándolo del lado donde está la conexión llega algo justo pero sin forzar las conexiones y queda bien. Recomiendo siempre usar el cable del SSD si quieres tener las velocidades indicadas, o fijarse bien en la categoría (3.2; 3.2 x2; o thunderbolt) si necesitas más metros de cable.PROS:•Extremadamente pequeño. Mide apenas 6 X 4 cm.•Barato.•Suficientemente rápido.•Bonito.•No se calienta más allá que cualquier otro.•MemoriaCONTRAS:•Material de plástico.•Cable un pelín justo según el uso que le des.Y poco más, un pequeño gran compañero de batallas a partir de ahora.
