Title: Amazingly Fast – 8TB!!!
Review: 5 stars ! Huge thanks to Crucial, Amazon, Customs, and UPS International for the lightning-fast global shipping—I got this in just 5 days! After researching 8TB SSDs, I nearly went with Samsung’s T5 Evo but found that Crucial (U.S.) had an 8TB version at a great deal! Reviews showed Crucial was faster, and they weren’t wrong! I needed to free up space on my phone, so I backed up my phone’s videos (~600gb+) in just 4 hours instead of the estimated 20 hours—perfect timing before the Guns N’ Roses concert! I noticed that the SSD did get warm, but a small desk fan helped. This SSD is a game-changer—the world’s smallest 8TB external drive, IP65-rated for dust/water, and built to survive a 3m drop. Plus, it comes with a 3-year warranty. Hope it lasts!

Title: Tiny and packs a wallop!
Review: EDIT July 11, 2025: I still have high praise for the Crucial SSD external drive. My whole computer network and all attached drives are running cooler and faster. Although all drives [1 internal (the Fusion Drive) and 3 external (including the Crucial SSD)] are connected into the iMac motherboard, the Crucial external SSD is running macOS Sequoia [my boot drive] while the other two external drives [rotational] are being run by macOS Ventura. The synergy between all the drives is all that I could have hoped for. When I get a new iMac [maybe 2027 ], i’m going to utilize the Crucial which should then be able to approach its full potential of 2,100Mbp/s. Because my 2017 iMac motherboard is only specified for 1,000Mbp/s, the Crucial 2TB SSD has a lot of capacity left to achieve in an updated motherboard.ORIGINAL REVIEW June 27, 2025: I have a 2017 iMac [18,2], which has the dreaded Fusion Drive. I have never hated the 1TB internal Fusion Drive, even now after such a polarizing contrast with the Crucial 2TB external SSD Drive. I still like it, however the comparison is like a night and day difference. The Crucial SSD Drive does everything smoother, more efficiently, and FASTER.I’m still using the iMac Fusion Drive running macOS Ventura, but only as a fallback macOS due to the fact that I’m using Open Core Legacy Patcher [OCLP] on the Crucial SSD running macOS Sequoia. Thus, I boot from the SSD Drive 10-times faster with practically no fan noises or heat issues. And all my apps run perfectly.I wish I had done this sooner.

Title: Tiny speedster
Review: Fantastic little external hard drive, it is smaller then it looks. It does get hot, but place next to a fan, no problems. Very plug and play. The speed is quick .

Title: Large (likely very reliable) USB SSD
Review: This is a large USB SSD (in my case I got the 8TB model). Since this is a Crucial product, and Crucial has a long history of selling quality products, I expect to get years of use out of this drive. I did previously have 2 smaller Crucial SSDs, that have both already given years of use without failing (so I suspect I’ll get the same from this 8TB SSD).I first learned about Crucial years ago from a colleague at work. He pointed out that Crucial was (at that time) just a USA based computer memory maker. However, the thing about Crucial memory was that it had a much lower failure rate than most of the memory made/sold by other companies. Essentually Crucial memory was of a higher quality than memory made by most of the compitition. While Crucial also charged a little more than the compitition, in this case you got what you paid for. And since the time/cost of diagnosing/fixing equipment using broken memroy can be substantial, paying a little more for quality memory from Crucial can easily end up saving money in the long run.Since I have now retired, I currently only buy Crucial products for personal/home needs. However, I still remember the lesson that it can be worth it to spend a little extra for quality products that will last. And since I can’t remember even one time a Crucial product has failed on me, I still will buy Crucial products when they aren’t massively more costly than the compitition. In the case of this SSD, I got it to upgrade the storge on my XBox gaming console. Since this is use case Crucial didn’t make the drive for, I did have to take a couple extra steps to make this work. Specifically I needed to supply my own fast USB A to USB C cable (as the XBox only has USB A ports, not USB C ports) and I also needed to let the XBox reformat the SSD to whatever file format it uses for storing games on (as the XBox can’t use the file format this drive shipped with). But once those steps were done, the XBox happily saw this USB SSD as valid “external storage” for use by the gaming console (and I have already moved a number of my games onto that newly purchased storage).NOTE: I didn’t pay full price for this SSD. Instead I took advantage of a large “limited time” sale that slashed the price by close to $200 (bringing the price down to under $470, including the required sales tax). While this is still a lot of money for a toy (a gaming console upgrade), it is still much less than it would have been had I paid full price for this 8TB SSD.

Review: As a long-time Mac user, I’m always on the lookout for compact, high-performance storage solutions that don’t compromise on reliability. The Crucial X10 Pro 6TB SSD ticks every box—and then some.Size & Design:The first thing that struck me is just how small this drive is. It’s genuinely pocket-sized—roughly the size of a stack of credit cards—but feels solidly built with a premium aluminium shell. It doesn’t get hot even after long transfers, and the textured surface offers excellent grip when handling it on the go.Performance:Using the USB-C connection with my MacBook Pro (M3), it performs flawlessly. I read it can get close to 2,000MB/s – all I know is that as a time machine device it is plenty fast enough. For a portable SSD of this size, that’s impressive.Time Machine Compatibility:I use this as my dedicated Time Machine backup drive. Setup was seamless—macOS recognised it instantly, and backups run smoothly in the background with no interruptions. The 6TB capacity means I can retain months of backups without worrying about space.Portability:It’s small enough to live in my laptop bag permanently. Compared to older HDDs I’ve used for Time Machine, this is a total game changer in both speed and size. There’s no noise, no spin-up delays—just instant access.Other Notes:Comes with a short, high-quality USB-C cable.Backwards compatible with USB-A (adapter not included).IP55-rated for dust and water resistance, which is a bonus if you travel frequently.Verdict:The Crucial X10 Pro 6TB is ideal for creatives, professionals, or anyone needing fast, portable storage. Its combination of compact size, high capacity, and solid performance makes it a top-tier choice. If you’re a Mac user looking for a reliable Time Machine backup drive that won’t take up desk space, this is it.
