iPhone 17 keynote likely set for week of September 8, claims a typically reliable industry analyst.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Apple analyst and reporter Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has offered insight into the anticipated launch of the iPhone 17, aligning with previous assessments regarding its timing.
Gurman reckons Apple will hold the inevitable September keynote on either September 8, 9 or 10. That’s in line with previous launches and, as Gurman points out, Apple usually launches new iPhones the week after Labor Day.
Given that falls on September 4, that would put the likely keynote date around September 8. The IFA electronics trade show is the week before in Berlin, and Apple would likely want to avoid that week, given the attention it would lose.
It also allows Apple to send out media invites for the event during IFA, which could take some of the shine off of launches from rivals like Samsung and Sony.
We can try and work out a release schedule
Apple launched the iPhone 16 series on a Monday, although it has preferred Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the past. For obvious reasons, an event on September 11 seems highly unlikely, as does an event on a Friday.
Gurman is focused on the keynote and doesn’t mention the on-sale date. However, if previous years are anything to go by, it’ll be a short step from the grand unveiling to when you can actually get the iPhone 17 (and iPhone 17 Air) in your hands.
If the phone were to launch on September 8, 9 or 10 then the pre-orders would likely open on the Friday (September 12) with a full release coming a week later on September 19. Of course, until Apple actually reveals the details, this information should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Opinion
This is shaping up to be a busy event, with numerous product releases likely. It seems the highlight will be the iPhone 17 Air, which will focus on design and ditch the secondary cameras for a single rear snapper. The Air will probably join a standard iPhone 17 and a duo of Pro models. We’ll probably have to wait until the iPhone 17e arrives in 2026.
There should also be new Apple Watch models unveiled, plus firm release dates for iOS 26. With around two months to go, excitement is starting to build for what is coming next from Apple.
