Title: The Good The Bad and He Ugly
Review: The Good The Bad and The UglyLast month I purchased the 47” BougeRV Aluminum Roof Basket. So first the good. It’s probably the nicest looking roof basket out there especially given the price. The Bad is kinda relative. I needed replacement parts so I went to the BougeRV web site. That company is located in Houston and sells high tech camping gear like solar panels and electric coolers. However, roof racks are nowhere to be found. It turns out that the roof baskets are supplied to Amazon through a China based division of the company. There is no web site for them, only an email address. So I reached out to them. They are a half a world’s time zones behind so my first response came at 1 am. We played e-mail tag for the next week at 24 hour intervals.Now for the ugly. The instructions were good and assembly straight forward. The quality control and design could be better. The basket is held together by screws that engage threaded inserts imbedded in the aluminum panels, one of which was over sized so the screw would not engage. I tried to fix it by over drilling the threads and retapping for a larger screw. Next was that some of the holes didn’t precisely align up preventing the clean insertion of a couple of the assembly screws. For this I had to get out the Dremel tool to widen the hole. Finally the mounting plates are secured with a pair of short flush tapered screws. They only engage with 3 1/2 treads. One of those also stripped loose. By now I decided that the basket was going to be poorly secured to the roof racks so I reached out to the company asking for replacement parts. As I mentioned before, communicated by e-mail to a China based company was tedious. First they wanted pictures. How do you photograph a stripped hole? Finally they accepted my claim and agreed to send replacement parts but since they didn’t have them stateside I would have to wait to have them shipped from China. With the current tariff situation in flux I didn’t know how long that would take.In the end they decided to send me a new basket and not having to return the defective one. So, about a week later I got another kit. I still needed to get the Dremel tool out to open the screw holes but other than that everything went together well. But to be extra cautious I applied Loctite to all the screws fearing road vibrations could cause a disaster.Finally words. I do like the basket and it looks good on the car. The Company did their best to make me satisfied. I would recommend it with the caveat that you will likely need a Dremel tool. The basket is only rated for 150 pounds unlike most other steel baskets rated for 200 pounds. But who’s going to put 200 pounds on their car’s roof?

Title: Great product and fantastic customer service, too!
Review: This is a well designed and well manufactured, precision machined aluminum roof cargo basket. During the assembly process I found that one special nut was faulty due to the lack of the internal thread in it. The Customer Service responded swiftly and express-mailed the replacement part to me overnight, so I was able to make the deadline for my my pre-scheduled trip. The cargo basket was paired up with a 19 ft.³ of capacity roof bag. We were able to fit the complete camping set for the family of three in it. We drove 2500 miles in three weeks of time, and both the basket and the bag would not move an inch. There is no sound nor any other sign of the cargo basket being on top of your car when there is no cargo in it. With the roof bag on it the wind noise is noticeable but not unbearable. I would like to thank the Customer Service again for their cooperation and for their prompt response, and for making my trip happen as scheduled.

Title: Cargo carrier looks great on my Highlander.
Review: Watch the installation video first. Actual installation took me about 15 minutes. I like that this carrier is all hollow aluminum and won’t rust.Two minor things I didn’t like. Before buying it would have been nice to know what the min/max measurement is between the crossbars on my roof. For my Highlander that was 28″, and left about 7″ to play with. Second thing, the shorter bolts, 2″, with the plastic knobs for tightening, looked flimsy and easy to steal. Decided to buy 1 1/2″ carriage bolts/nuts from Lowe’s and tighten them with my ratchet wrench. Looks much more aerodynamic and secure.

Review: Holes didn’t line up for rear bar on both sides so total of four holes drilled wrong. Bad quality and simply can’t use.
