I have a cat that is 7 (fluffy grey mix) and I’ve been with him since the day he was born! I held him hours after he was born because the mom wedged herself and the babies where she shouldn’t have so I was called to help move them.. as soon as I saw him I decided I wanted him! He won’t cuddle and he doesn’t like to be held for more than a little stroll around the kitchen. 😂😂 but he is my best buddy! I also have a 2 year old and he is an orange guy and is on me the moment I sit down! 😂😂
Cats are useless
My three previous cats were really nice and cuddly. My current cat is a terror. She is descendent of Irish barn cats. Her idea of being lovey is biting and scratching me. Her true love is my son-in-law. Lucky, he come every so often to trim her claws. Yet, she decided to sleep with me. Some cat people idea of love is not my idea.
They don't want you on them all the time
My cat was born to a stray mother cat. She loves to lay on my shins with her back to me, but doesn't want to be any closer than that. We have learned to respect each other's space.
I rescued my kitty from a shelter. She was about 1 year old and lived outside. She’ll lay next to me. But I started picking her up and cuddle she didn’t like it at first, but the more I did it the more she liked it.
In my experience, Bengals are not cuddlers. 😢

I noticed though, she didn’t like being picked up. She’s very friendly and comes to me and strangers. She’ll sit in a lap, but only if she initiates. She sleeps at my feet in bed, always touching my leg.

But she is the most loving girl
Anyway she is the sweetest kitty ❤
If I do hug a cat, I do it loosely so they don't feel too restricted, and if they do try to move, I loosen my grip even more and let them walk away of they want. This is how my cat ended up loving hugs, and getting in my lap specifically because he wants one.

There's a difference between cuddling and snuggling. Mine prefers snuggling and knows the word "snuggle" when I say it and will jump up on me to tuck in closely.
Cuddling seems to make him feel smothered or restrained, and he doesn't like it.
My two girls were found in my backyard, someone had to have dumped them over the fence. They wre only TWO weeks old! They were bottle fed and had lots of human interaction. They even slept on my neck when they were kittens. But now they won't cuddle! They do love me I can tell, one of them is very attached, follows me around and wants to be on my shoulders but don't you dare hold her LOL They are also Very quiet, rarely meow! I don't know if that has anything to do with how young they were but when they are hungry, they hover and step on my laptop when I'm trying to work LOL They let me know in their own way!

My cat use to love to cuddle until I got other cats.
My cat, Darwin, is very affectionate and shows me love but HE ABSOLUTELY HATES BEING PICKED UP AND HELD. I respect this and I wish others would as well. (People would come over and go to pick him up, and I would tell them not to, and they would say, "watch me" "he'll like it when I pick him up". Darwin showed them immediately that they were wrong!
My cat hates to pick up. Occasionally, I manage to pick up for a few seconds. After, few seconds he become agitated. When I put him down, he came around again.😂😂😂. He likes to be close to me, following me around the house. My cat stayed nearby when I was ill, but he hates to pick him up. 🫠
My tabby cat has full of chaos energy!! And I hate it!! I’m taking care of him since he was 4 months and I didn’t still figure out how I approach him cause he’s crazy!!! He doesn’t like to cuddle, but he also like to crawl on you, he likes playing a lot and he is most selfish cat in the world! And usually we don’t get along 😢
I have two bottle fed boys from the same litter. Identical upbringing with lots of cuddles and attention as babies. One is so cuddly he would like to ride around on my shoulders all day if he could, but the other has declared himself a foot-cat. He'll scrub himself all over my feet and the floor around me, but if I try to pick him up, he asks to get down. I don't know why they're different. Shoulder cat is grey and foot cat is black. I sometimes wonder if that has anything to do with. I mean, you know, not directly, but maybe it indicates certain genes that got passed down. I've known other black and grey cats who seemed similar, respectively, but maybe I'm reading too much into it. The black one also got a bad tummy ache very early on that nearly killed him, and now has food/digestive issues that the grey one doesn't have. They eat roughly the same amount, but the black one is smaller and fatter, and more obsessed with food. I wonder if maybe being held is simply not very comfortable for him. In the very least, it may have been painful for him as a baby to be moved around, whereas the grey cat only ever associated being held as a baby with joy. (They were removed from a sick mother cat who wasn't able to nurse them, and it's possible the black one had it as well. The grey one never showed any signs of the illness.)
I hate my cat. doesn't come when called sometimes and hates cuddles and being groomed and then he gets knots. he's a persian so needs grooming 😡
I am starting to think people who love cats are those who were abused as children or are used to being treated poorly. Cats know and they own you now. Cats are aliens from out of space.
