Sonic movie one had many references
I do agree with 98% of what you said the other 2% is because I felt as if I thought the first was a tad better than the second but only slightly I know the first we was kind of just like any old movie but with Sonic as the main character where is the second movie is kind of more of an actual Sonic movie and not just the movie with Sonic as the main character and don't get me wrong it Knuckles was just that amazing character he's probably my second favourite character in the movie Odyssey number one being Robotnik I mean Jim Carrey just crushed that role in my opinion the two things that held the second Sonic movie back in my opinion was one the wedding scene being kind of cringe and number two being a kind of felt a little too reliant on fanservice I know I sound like a movie critic right now but that's just my opinion lol

I personally prefer Movie Bowser over Movie Robotnik simply because Movie Bowser’s a lot more intimidating and does much more evil and villainous stuff in just one film than Movie Robotnik did in two films. While Movie Bowser does have his goofy moments, here’s how I see it: Movie Bowser is an intimidating and threatening villain with some goofy moments while Movie Robotnik is a complete goofball villain with some intimidating and threatening moments (though they’re nowhere near as threatening as Bowser’s).

The Super Mario Bros MOVIE isn't a GAME. It's a film posted to cinemas for people to watch and enjoy. Personally it can't JUST be fan service or else the people who didn't grow up with mario (ME) won't enjoy this movie since the characters are not fleshed out.
Mario barely has a arc, he does have one but its not great and is rushed to hell.
Luigi is a joke, he got no screentime and him to 'magically' be skilled as Mario makes absolutely no sense.
Bowser motivation to take over the world is not explained HELL there barely any lore for the Pipe world because they NEVER FLESH IT OUT. And the only reason he loves peach…wait there isn't one he just loves her.
Edit: Peach is okay I guess, but atleast EXPLAIN why she's so good instead of just showing she's good. Come on you can do better then that..
Look, I don't hate it but I find it stupid people are ignoring basic plot potential because it's Mario. Again this isn't a mario game it's a film, a Film needs story to be enjoyable that's why this movie falls flat for me compared to Sonic because it's short and feels empty and the only thing good about the movie is the references and animation.
The next movie better have some plot or else It's basically going to be a lifeless sequel that just repeats what the first movie did.
The mario movie is way better for an adaptation of videogame where as Sonic movie are just better flims compare to game movie.

I think The Super Mario Bros Movie is at the same level as the first Sonic movie, while Sonic 2 is an overall better FILM then the Mario movie. But The Super Mario Movie is a better ADAPTATION. I couldn’t help but feel a sense of love and celebration of the Mario games and cartoons though that movie. But I actually found myself liking the Mario movie more then the Sonic films even though Sonic 2 is a better film simply because I’m a bigger Mario fan.
The mario movie actually felt like a good video game adaptation, the sonic movies was basically just taking sonic and putting him into a hybrid cgi, the second did better but honestly mario movie destroyed sonic
