Why would just Dark be applicable to Cthulu? Water seems reasonable as well, as Cthulu is often associated with the deep sea. Maybe we'll get a boss that is actually a combo of water and dark, even.

I would recommend to bring a lyleen because they can heal you and the can sometimes be extremely strong if they have spirit emporer
Here's how you prepare.
Put down 9 chests. Start abusing the crap out of the pole glitch to duplicate materials.
Fill those chests while running expeditions.
When you're done change your world settings for meteors to drop every minute and run around Sakurajima catching Seylens while getting good loot.
All in all the vest way to prep is to play. Just do what you do. We'll probably get new weapons and armor with this update so don't stress on weapons and armor. If you really want the best collect the meteor drops at Feybreak instead of Sakurajima and Run the Oil rig every 30 minutes or so.
