TeamGroup’s new P250Q SSD is no ordinary SSD. It’s plenty fast, leveraging its PCIe 4 interface to generate a sustained read and write speed of 7,000MB/s and 5,500MB/s, respectively. But it’s the SSD’s security that really makes it stand out. It comes with a “Secure Independent Destruction Circuit” that triggers a secure erase of all the data on the drive, zero-filling it even if the power is interrupted mid-wipe. Just hit the button, and the drive will ensure no one can find out what was on it.

SSDs are a great way to store your data when you need high-speed access, but like all storage mediums, a simple format won’t do much to hide your data from prying eyes if they can get hold of the drive itself. Recovery software can pull back a surprising amount of data even when a drive has been erased, and that’s not exactly a quick or streamlined process, anyhow. TeamGroup’s hyper-secure drive makes erasing the drive easier and more effective, letting you remove any sensitive data from your SSD within just a few seconds.
TeamGroup’s security system has two built-in erase functions. The first is software-based and quickly erases everything on the drive. If power is interrupted during the erase, as soon as it is restored, the wipe will continue, making it all but impossible to stop once it’s started. This is designed for IT administrations and even gamers who just want a quick way to secure erase their SSD.
For the defence market, government organizations, or those working with particularly sensitive data, TeamGroup also included a hardware erase function. This uses “high voltage breakdown technology” to physically destroy the NAND flash memory, making the data and the drive itself completely unrecoverable.
Targeting those kinds of highly sensitive organizations, TeamGroup has also made the drive particularly capable of handling extreme temperatures. It has a smart throttling system that can control the speed of the drive when operating between 85 and 105 degrees C. VideoCardz suggests this could be of particular use in electronic control units in vehicles, or in industrial robotics, where additional stresses and high-temperature environments are more prevalent.
We don’t yet have a release date or pricing data for this drive, but it will be available in capacities from 256GB up to 2TB, and will be built using 3D TLC NAND.
