@Fartman5166 As far as I know, Orion can't be built because of it's propulsion by atomic bombs and the nuclear test ban treaty pretty much put an end to this project. But who knows, it might come back.

My kids want to take us to Mars and beyond. At 14 and 16 they want to be Astrophysicists and Engineers. Education funding is being cut… tuition costs are skyrocketing… we are our own worst enemy.
NASA, please build the Orion spacecraft as quickly as you can. Please. America's first gateway to space can't afford to be shut down because of the cost of getting astronauts shipped into space by companies or other programs. NASA needs a program capable of sending astronauts up to LEO.

@abadubie Things change, but just because there is change doesnt mean things are reaching their end. Thats a bit of an extreme.
Space is starting to come into the reach of private companys, so expect some significant changes in that direction. Nasa is going to have a lot of collaboration and/or competition in the future and the cancellations/funding issues we see happening at the moment are a response to other major changes (ie new president, global financial crisis etc).

It is a time of transition, like Sandra Magnus said, and I think its obvious that the US government does not want to go to space for the next 5-10 years. Maybe they will when they see China reaching the moon. About ARES, well it has 2 problems going for it. 1st, its a failure of a project, read about it, and 2nd, it was very stupidly named (after a bloodthirsty greek god of war, not adventure)

Imagine a 3-D swimming pool; a ball of water supported by gentle breezes in a weightless room that you could dive in to – and swim through!.
