From what I’ve seen, Deep Rock Galactic has the best battlepass system. After a pass goes away they just straight up add the costmetics and content into the game anyways. Just that the battlepass offers you a temporary, straightforward way to get them before having to grind them in missions later on

They should also make the battle passes somewhat like Fortnite (the 1st game to introduce it). After the first time you use money for a battle pass, you get more than enough of a certain resource to get any future battle passes without money. Do that while also getting tempted with other cosmetics to use money for in the shop. Combine that with your idea of non-expiring battle passes, and that'll be as perfect as they could possibly make it.
