Striking Distance: Releases Callisto Protocol
Also Striking Distance: Oh shit we forgot to add a map
havent enjoyed any minute of this game wtf
SOMA is the best horror game ever.
Amazing content
It was an interesting idea, plays way too clunky
I think the lack of mini map and shoving the storyline in your face every 5 minutes only adds to the immersive experience allowing me to feel like I'm actually part of the world roaming through a montser invested prison and adds to the tension of survival horror. I don't need to be constantly reminded that I'm playing a game telling me where to go and what is happening allowing me to work it out for myself! 🤷♂️ and it's pretty obvious, at least to me where the side paths are and where to go for the main path, you just have to think for yourself.
So.. TLDR: Bad gameplay, fine story/art. So it better to watch than it is to play.
Glen never directed dead space
Game is average at best. And if to evaluate it from surv/hor perspective, it is total crap. Mismarketing is a big issue here.
Oh you're Swedish. Thus why you seem so approachable.
Hei fra Norge 😊
New studio first game it can only get better dead space 2 were it was for me it rock but hopefully in time they will hit the mark again its not that bad better than some game that came this year
Lighting, graphics etc deffenetly a lot better and not max head room 1980's rubbish
I was relatively enjoying the game till the two head fights, their inconsistency with me killed the game. Sometimes the first phase would go down in 4 shots, other times it took 10+ (using shotgun.) Then having to try to dodge while switching weapons, him catching a single pixel of my shoulder and being instagibbed for it, the GRP not GRPing what I want it to, and the dodging not wanting to dodge (playing on series X) all just came together at the end of the game and turned my enjoyment into annoyance. The horror doesn't really work when my main form of dealing with enemies is to get right in their face and bash their skulls in.
Dead Space worked because the adrenaline horror rush came from when a room suddenly turned an amber orange or red and you start hearing vents popping all over the place, seeing the necromorphs charging at you and you doing your best to keep them at a distance and start amputating. TCP never had a horror moment for me, I was never worried about a group cause either they form a line and fight you one at a time, I'm tossing them into fans, or I'm unloading my shotgun ammo to create space in my inventory. This game had potential for me, but the story was meh, characters never really went anywhere, and the enemies were kind of bland in design. Not one enemy design grossed me out or made me want to nope out of a room, it was all generic infected blister form A B or C, or gray humanoid figure I didn't really look at before it became goo in a fan. End boss looked like a knock off Matriarch or Beserker from Gears too
I just hope this doesn't discouraged the studio to not make another game or a sequel, this game have the typical first try fail, but that's fine, I hope they improved all the stuff that people find bad about this game and make a great experience next time, calisto protocol have a great achievement in artistic and graphic department this game is f astonishing, the faces and character models look amazing, I hope striking distance doesn't get thrown out of the game industry just because this game have failed, this game has potencial and I hope in the next one they exploit that potencial
Just beat this game. Playing on the xbox. Theres a lot of issues. The sound breaks badly with muiltple enemies on the screen. The game gets extremely choppy with 2 enemies on the screen. 3 or more and the game just struggles. A couple times the game completely lagged out. The game would freeze, and I would have to do a hard reset. The story is boring. I couldnt really get into it. I honestly kept forgetting everyones name. The game fails to be scary. The level sounds are poor. Enemies sound close to you. Even when you see them 30 feet away. The sound design is poor compared to other games, and of course Dead Space. Combat got repetitive, and tedious. I was getting bored doing the same combat over, and over. The enemy design was boring. The death executions got boring as well. There honestly should of been more. The most annoying enemy to fight was the rip off version of wannabe discount Eyedol, from Killer Instinct. You seriously fight 5 of them. You can not move while listening to audio logs. You're forced to sit still. Audio logs are to short to honestly care. They should of waited a couple more years. The game feels rushed. No new game plus. Story is short. Hopefully learn from this. And the next game will actually have horror in it.
I somehow managed to go through most of the game on medium difficulty shooting and GRP throwing everything and not learning how to dodge properly which caused me to really struggle on Ferris and the Two headed brutes(most annoying enemy ever) which have a reach like Stretch Armstrong and the speed of Usain Bolt! The two headed brute fights were the only time the game made me feel nervous and ill-equipped. In my opinion I think the game needed a quick time event so as to learn the multiple dodge mechanic(think I was holding the right trigger while moving left analog stick at same time causing the dodge to fail against Ferris).
Apart from the annoying repetitive jump scares like you mentioned I enjoyed the game but I feel the game needed another 3 or 4 missions to get your monies worth out of it, as to me it felt way on the short side.
It's worth $40.
Yet Another space based game 🥱
maps are for kids games
I really love this game, it looks, sounds and feels more next gen than any other title I have come across on PS5. For a first game from a new studio it is amazing. I'd love to see more from this studio who have worked so hard to make this game what it is. In so many ways Striking Distance have set the bar for next ten titles and will only improve.
This is what happens when Dead Space devs try to make a game that isn't Dead Space.
The art is impeccable, the story and the setting? Everything already seen. It's literally a mix of the three Dead Space games, the jumpscares are overused to cover the lack of proper scripted events like in DS1. The gore is ok, but the melee fight is pointless if the enemies become bullet sponges and the dodge ability becomes a strong point.
Overall I see a good number of ideas mixed and matched together quickly to close a project. It feels like several teams worked on it without communicating with each other.
I’ll buy it on sale. Or when it gets better performance pc
i never buy games on release because in this day and age most of the time u will get disappointed, i could say that callisto was one of them, it definetly has a very good story even if it's relatively small, ending so clichè and rushed, combact mechanic stale and kinda of a chore at some pint, there is no innovation, just dodge, auto 3 times and repeat again, there no different patterns, if u try to do something different u are most likely to die , enemies are basically all the same, there is not much variety to it. I truly believe there is future for the game, just hope they do a better work for the next one, cause they did hit everything to make it looks eerie and scary.
I love Callisto, somewhat short but otherwise really good.
👍🏼
Very cool game.looking forward for the dlcs.
For me I was scared being down in the PSYCH WARD bcuz there’s people that reall are crazy like these monsters
I have this and at halfway through
It is very repetitive,
Correct the map is a big issue
Surely with “H&S” nowadays you need escape route maps on walls everywhere ? 😂
I loved the dead space games so was immediately drawn to this, but so far 6.5/10
Fun fact, is when you die just pause and click restart from checkpoint so you don't have to watch the death scene!
We just want a new dead space. Doesn't care if it's an clone with updates, dead space is so missed by us all
I think the cqc was fun, but it hindered the scares. You get so used to fighting up close even jump scares don't work anymore. Where as Dead Space is the opposite. You fight at range most of the time, when a necromorph breaks through a vent near you…. holy shit:)
I think iv played dead space too many time because when i played this game i never got scared from this game
Sigh i was so hyped for this game, ig ill wait for a sale or if it comes to game pass, maybe a sequal if it sells enough to get one. The money will maybe go toward jedi survivor
I wish i wouldnt have wasted the money. I tried playing it twice and got about 15 into the combat then got dashboarded both times, and that dodge mechanic is sooo horrible
The absence of a map is the reason to play the game again for me. Mastering the game mechanics on a repeated playthrough seemed more fun for me. Don't get me wrong, the game has its flaws, imho the game seems like a pitch for a full-pledged game instead of being one, but I loved almost every second of it. The two-headed bosses were abnoxious in their re-appearances. The final fight was also bad. But the level design, world-building and imagery were top notch.
Also the poster I got in the Day One edition is really nice.
I think this game suffered from the developers trying their best not to make Dead Space all over again, and while some of the new mechanics in the game are great, they stopped relying on the elements that make a game scary. There should have been an indestructible enemy constantly on Jacob’s tail that makes you feel powerless. The alien in Alien: Isolation is a prime example. There should have been long, narrow, dark corridors with no music, low lighting, just creepy ambient noise. Creatures skittering across the glass. Glowing eyes in the corners that disappear when you think to look and check again. Weapons that break and you have to innovate mid-combat. The forest area was a perfect opportunity for a creepy stalker organism that you have to fight off while working to open a door or wind down a clock on a security gate. Moments in the game where you have to work against a clock are great. Hearing the heavy thuds of an unknown creature on the floor above. Things peeking around the corner while you’re exploring. Something that’s aware of where you are, but choosing not to attack…just yet. Tight hallways that end in sharp turns. Claustrophobia in a tense situation works. Rather than having him fall down a sewage pipe, that should’ve been at least partly an area where he had to walk through waist high waste water, and there are enemies skulking around him and creating waves and he has to navigate around them. The robots could’ve been more terrifying if their blue light switched to red in hostile mode and they actively hunted inmates. I’m trying not to be super harsh on the game, because it’s a brand new IP and they need to get level footing.
Love that you started covering other games. Keep doing these kind of reviews.
Little advice: it was a little spoilery when you said that the game baits a sequel.
i swear, you peeps have traumatic attachment.
business model has changed, games are released 3/4 done and fnished with sales money. you peeps are actually paying to fund game developpers. calisto will probably be wonderful for me two years from now with all the dlc's and polishing you dim wits just financed.
how many decades will it take for the chronic masturbators to understand that they have to hold when game publishers show a bit of skin.
This is the first video on The Callisto Protocol I've seen that wasn't tearing it a new one… granted, I've only seen part of Rimmy's video and Pyrocynical's video when it came to this game, but you did really good pointing out some of the good things as opposed to Rimmy and Pyro who just ripped on the game's framerate (both on the PC version, Rimmy on Medium & Pyro on Low and they both had like… 7 – 20 FPS) as well as ripping on overreliance on jumpscares that weren't that scary (they seemed to suggest the framerate freezing in the middle of each jumpscare hurt them a lot more than just the overreliance)
Overall, even with the good things you pointed out, I'm probably gonna pass on this game, glad I managed to see/hear some of the good things about it though!
The grabby faces are the only thing that wigged me out. lol. Just so uncool. lol
I love Josh Duhamel & Sam Witwer. I bought this game for them alone (well that and my love of horror)…I'm so disappointed. While their acting was perfect the game was soooooooo boring. And i'm not even going to talk about the combat. I'm disabled so I always have to play on easy but even with the accessibility settings I rage quit more often than I should have had to. In fact I think its not been since Silent Hill Homecoming that i've thrown a controller. LOL. I keep looking for another game that scared the literal shit out of me like Alien: Isolation did (I swear I almost had to go to the ER bc of anxiety) but I guess I'll keep looking.
I like it! for the sole reason its the best lookin game running the unreal 5 engine yet… i didnt expect it to be anything close to deadspace 2.
