I always wished some studio would have had the idea to make movies from the original dark horse comics. Would have been epic. Thanks for the content. Brilliant.
I should never have been given the "film of the book" of Alien when I was five. I brought it into school and was told never to do so again. Would manifest itself even into my more adult dreams. Fascinating. And completely unique.
Not sure why but the Ride of the Valkyries playing over images of a Xenomorph made me laugh but also a little unsettling
"imagine a species where the first conscious act of life is killing"
Sharks. Pups in the womb of the mother shark will kill each other. So even before they're born sharks have a body count.
This was one of my very favorite passages from the old Dark Horse ALIENS comics. Thanks for putting it up on YouTube. 🙂
What are these aliens eating to sustain such enormous energy expenditure?
@3:21 … Look up what cuckoo birds do right after they hatch. lol 👌
Dangerous assumption to make – That the xenomorphs are natural
Now what would happen if they encountered a species like out of an H.P. Lovecraft story? Like those aliens from the City of the Great Race who inhabited the Mountains of Madness that didn't have discernable mouths and necks to choke? A different outcome I would think.
Humans suffer from the peculiarly self centered notions of the nature of life,
We assume out of hand that other life forms must somehow conform to our own comfortable standards of logic and morality.
This is of course absurd. human morality is a thin tissue of arbitrary principle easily ignored when expediant.
Why should we expect more from the alien lifeforms then ourselves.
As a matter of practical fact much of what we presume to know about the alien lifeform is conjecture, however admist the theory there are two unequivocal facts.
1) They are not like us. , and
2) We will never ever understand them.

If you think about it. The alien's life cycle doesn't make sense because it relies on something else coming along for it to reproduce. It has this extra step in it's reproductive cycle that real lifeforms wouldn't have. For example : Queens in insect colonies give birth to eggs which hatch offspring. It doesnt give birth to eggs to create a parasite to THEN go and create offspring.
Hot take: I prefer Prometheus/Alien Covenant origin of them being engineered by a nanomachine like mutagen, it makes them feel like there is no equal to them, they exist purely to evolve and transcend barriers that exist in different biospheres as they were engineered exactly to do that.
All xenomorphs have open relationships. Individuals have been known to attempt to mate with corpses of mice when no viable potential lay is available. Xenomorphs who emerge from hippos are male and homosexual. Xenos born from seagulls are obese. Ones from rabbits tend to be racist but able to change. Chimp-xenomorphs make excellent dancers and adult film stars. A facehugger bursts out of cows backsides and the cow is unharmed.
Mate,Feed,Kill,Repeat…
= ) who knows the reference?
Is that gunship battle music in background
Every spring I graft larvae from my best queens and place up to 20 of them into a queenless colony. They colony will feed these larvae a special diet to ensure they pupate into queens. The first of them will hatch out within 16 days and if I don't remove the cells containing her sisters, she will sting and destroy all of them before they can emerge.
Don't forget the Yautja cross breed the Xenomorphs for more challenging prey to conquer
Well that's what Queen bees do once hatched, they hunt down and kill all other queens by stinging them including the baby queens still in the eggs.
Most of the time the first queen to hatch wins.
This comic series was actually brilliant imo. Not just the fact that the stories and characters were great, but it also takes a very deep dive into the human condition. I so wish that Earth Wars were the sequels we got to Aliens. Not that I have any great disdain, unlike others, for 3, Resurrection, Prometheus, Covenant and the AVP's, but these were far superior. Rewatching this entire series now.
This is the best alien depiction, no David, no bs.
Nah, I still recognize xenomorphs as bioweapon, completely artificial organisms, made by someone…or something.
The more I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion that face huggers are actually the equivalent of sperm cells and the hosts are the egg. Sperm need to fertilize an egg to create an embryo (chestburster), and the resulting organism has genetic characteristics of both parents that provided the sex cells.
And for me, that thought just adds to the alienness of the organisms.
I’m not a big fan of Xenomorphs having a natural predator in any capacity. I’m alright if an intelligent species tries to control their populations and fails but having a natural predator goes against many of Xenomorph’s established themes. Their very designs are meant to be aberrations of both sexuality and nature. They’re bio-mechanical rapists who will use anything and anyone as a tool for reproduction, so having a natural predator shifts them away from psychopath demon creatures into more like regular animals. It also really doesn’t help that the predator’s design in the comic is severely lacking; besides its apparent acid resistance, it has nothing to counter against Xenomorphs at all and, more importantly, nothing to counter against a Face Hugger’s grip. It’s so generic you could dump that lizard in any piece of sci-fi media ever, and it wouldn’t stand out.
That being said, it is an interesting thought experiment as to what kind of impossible species could counter against Xenomorphs in nature; the predator would have to be just as unnatural and brutal as their competitor. One idea I had was for them to be reverse biomechanical. Instead of being an “organic” creature that largely resembles machinery, the predator “species” could be machines that partially mimic animals, sort of like in the Horizon series. Their origins may be artificial, but after an absence from their creators for millennia they could have influenced or been influenced by the biosphere. By way of not being biological, they couldn’t be able to be impregnated by Face Huggers, nor could they be able to be repurposed for food or organic building material. Combined with acid-resistant armor, they could counter the Xenomorph’s' most significant strengths and make for fair competition.
They would be cheap if they were human-friendly though; having a natural Xenomorph predator as allies would ruin the core themes of the Alien franchise. To not completely suck they would have to invoke a horror of their own. They could initially pose that they’re “the good guys” against the Xenomorph threat by communicating with intelligent species to lower their guard, only to pull a 180° by kidnapping, spaying, neutering, and indoctrinating the people they promised to protect. Instead of consuming organic material and reproducing with native fauna to propagate their species and flood the environment, the goal of the mechanical predator species would be making all organisms sterile and submissive, so they’ll eventually die out. In contrast, the mechanical species rule over them and hoard all the resources produce more machines. The more people they indoctrinate to convince or kidnap other species for infertilization and conversion, the more their power and influence would grow. Despite using opposite themes, the mechanical predator species could act as a secondary antagonist that seeks not to ally itself with others but to make others ally under itself.
This was the most developed idea I had. Other ideas include creatures like Bullsquids from half-life, where the tentacles comprising their mouth would make Face Hugger latching near impossible, or a species with no mouth and orifices that could be large enough to smash Xenomorphs with their bodies and absorb nutrients from the acid blood through their skin. These creatures wouldn’t be interesting in a story, though, and they detract from the theme that there’s no good solution to dealing with Xenomorphs without bloodshed and trauma.
In the end, although it’s fun to speculate what they could be like, I really hope we don’t see a natural Xenomorph predator in official canon. However, if they do make one, it should be way better than any idea I could come up with, and it should better not be shit lol.

damn i love aliens
I've watched this entire playlist now. Your work putting this together and narrating it is amazing. I just want to say thank you, it's been a brilliant way to hear this story.

Just in case you asking “ who’s that greenish Jabba the Hutt martian ? “
And the answer is : Donald Trump the conspirator and backed by Mickey Mouse the oligarch , as a main reveal to the Alien plot .
Basically from where and who started out infesting the Cosmos initially .
I am late to this party but I am never leaving. These videos are chicken soup for my chest burster.
Left entirely to themselves in the wild, I wonder 1) if Aliens would accept multiple queens in a single colony, 2) if dual queens cause infighting until a single queen remains alive, or 3) if additional queens simply take a portion of the colony to branch off into a new hive. Also, 4) do they possess a way to breed without hosts via male/female alates? I've been assuming all this time that ALL the Aliens we've seen thus far have been female, like wasps or ants.
Keep up d good work 👍
The strange part of Orona's account is that his axiom that we "will never understand them" seems wrong. We have a huge amount of data regarding insect species which is directly applicable to the xenomorphs. Even Jeff Goldblum talked about "insect politics" in the movie "The Fly" which is certainly a sufficient, if not exacting, understanding of how hives and insect cultures work. Apply that to 7 foot tall "insects" and it seems clear what the aliens are doing and why. It is only that, until now, insects were tiny compared to us… but that reality is gone. 🙂
I still prefer this to what we've ended up with. If horror monsters are a rogue's gallery, I like the Xenomorph as an "invasive species" aspect, it fills a more unique niche whilst maintaining simplicity.
(rather than another Frankenstein's monster yawn, might as well hand em a copy of paradise lost and wait for them to rename to Adam the Alien Ant)
Dr. Orona and the totally unexpected, completely hostile, pan-species parasite.

What I'd want to know is: What are those troll things at 2:58 that are given to the Queen Eggs?
