King Rhoam is written so fantastically and it’s even more shocking when you’re reminded of how little screen time he has.
He’s flawed. You can see in most of his entries he feels his purpose in her life is to be a king and not a father. He says as much after his wife dies. But, that’s exactly his problem. He understands the expectations he puts on Zelda but he lets his fear of losing the kingdom prevent him from being a father. Maybe had he been more loving toward her she would’ve awakened to her power in time. After all, in the end it’s love that finally unlocked the powers her bloodline possesses
I really don’t get why people hate him. He’s a KING, and it’s kinda impossible to be a ruler and the role model of the whole kingdom while also managing all kind of shits going on at once. I can understand his frustrations and his expectations on Zelda, not to mention the lost of his beloved wife and I’m sure from the diary, he also tries to find other ways to help Zelda (like the trains and stuff), and in the end he’s the one who decides to put down whatever happened in the past and try to be a good father and you can see that his diary is about Zelda this WHOLE TIME. (He literally started writing this diary because of Zelda) Really don’t get why people are angry at the king. Everyone makes mistakes, and he tried to fix their relationships before got killed by Ganon. He loves Zelda, and as a father he just wants what is best for his own daughter. Because if Zelda failed, not only the kingdom is doomed, but also Zelda herself would be in danger. When he told Zelda to be “single-mind” in her training, it actually sounds a bit like he’s trying to convince Zelda that she can do it if she puts a bit more time in it, however Zelda, in self-hate and doubt, thinks that her father is being harsh on her and disappointed at her. The king is a good father in my opinion. If he’s not, he wouldn’t even beg Link to save Zelda in the first place. And he’s also a humble nice old man in great plateau. He’s definitely a likable character, I thought he was shitty at first, but then again, haven’t you ever had this kind of conflict with your parents?
Edit: Also in his journal, he mentioned literally almost everything Zelda said in her diary, and it seems like he really knows Zelda well. How is he not a good father? Knows that Zelda’s mom is what hurts Zelda a lot. And also her best teacher. And calls Zelda, “my Zelda”. And he really doesn’t wanna push on Zelda. And he understands that Zelda loves research. He also knows Zelda’s pressure. And he really wants to let Zelda do whatever she likes, but the fate didn’t let him do so. He also knows that his scolding hurts.
Zelda never cried… She is a strong girl!

Zelda lost her mother at six, had issues with her father, and struggled with self worth whilst training fruitlessly for ten years (a practice in which she was unwilling to participate, using tech research as an escape). Only for her and her father to never reconcile, have all of her effort and research become meaningless, and for her to ultimately fail at the one duty she spent preparing for her whole life to fulfill, and battle a force of pure evil for 100 years.
So very, very sad. I, a Jeefly clone can tell that that is tragic.

who else hates Calamity Ganon more? Not only did he kill a zora princess that was going to potentially be with Link, killed thousands of people worldwide, and put Zelda through hell for 100 years , he also robbed the king of his chance to reconcile with his only daughter. When we shoot that arrow of light into his eye, I hope it hurts.
