25 Cars And SUVs Being Discontinued For 2026

If there’s one thing that’s constant in the automobile business, it’s change. Each successive model year brings a factory-fresh crop of brand-new and updated cars, trucks and SUVs to dealers’ showrooms. But in a vehicular version of natural selection, it also means some existing models will not return to celebrate the new year.

Usually, a given vehicle is discontinued because of declining sales, but shifting consumer preferences can also cause existing models to fall from an automaker’s lineup. For example, where sedans once ruled the road, a great many of them have since been supplanted in favor of more-popular SUVs and crossovers. Electric cars remain a question mark, with some brands still going all-in on battery-powered vehicles while others are now hedging their bets, especially with tariffs looming large and the federal tax credit/rebate for EV buyers and lessees expiring as of October 1.

On the plus side, expect deep discounts and automakers’ cash rebates, cut-rate financing and lease deals in the months ahead on discontinued models to help dealers clear their inventories.

Here’s a quick look at 25 cars and SUVs that are taking their last laps before dropping out of the sales race for 2026:

Acura TLX: There goes another sedan – in this case the sporty Acura TLX ­ – that’s not returning to dealers’ showrooms for the 2026 model year. The official reason from Acura is a familiar one, with the TLX being discontinued, “to better align with the evolving needs of our customers and the changing landscape of the automotive industry.” This will leave the Integra as Acura’s last passenger-car standing.

Audi A4: With sales sliding and the automaker betting on an electrified future, the midsize Audi A4 will be dropped for 2026, with its slot being filled by a revamped four-door A5. The name may not go away for long, however, as Audi is reportedly readying a full-electric successor to be called the A4 e-tron.

BMW 8 Series: The flagship 8 Series was BMW’s answer to the Porsche Panamera when it premiered for the 2019 model year, but it will suffer its demise sometime in 2026. It’s a broad model line that encompasses large and low-slung high-performance sedans, coupes and convertibles, including the rip-roaring M8 coupe. BMW is marking the 8 Series’ passing with a limited production Edition M Heritage variant.

BMW X4: Apparently it’s possible for a given brand to sell too many SUVs, which is most likely why the compact BMW X4 finds itself on the chopping block for 2026. Existing as a somewhat sportier and curvier alternative to the X3, the X4 performed admirably, and while sales started out strong when it debuted for 2014, BMW fans have since been losing interest in the model.

BMW Z4: The Z4 and its predecessor the Z3, were part of the great roadster resurrection from the 1990s. While small sports cars are among the least practical forms of transportation, they’ve been cherished by enthusiasts as weekend thrill rides. They’re losing their luster these days, however, with off-road SUVs gaining ground among adventurous motorists. Sales of both the Z4 and the mechanically similar Toyota GR Supra, are expected to end in 2026.

Cadillac XT4 and XT6: Here’s a pair of SUVs – Cadillac’s compact XT4 and midsize XT6 crossovers – being sent to the scrap yard for 2026. Lately, Caddy has placed its product development focus on a slate of new full-electric vehicles, though it’s said to retain some of its internal-combustion-powered models moving forward.

Chevrolet Blazer: While Chevy will continue to sell the Blazer EV, the model’s gas-powered trims (built in Mexico and subject to price-boosting tariffs) are going out of production, making it an all-electric model line for 2006.

Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair: Not long ago, compact crossover SUVs were mainstays of most automakers’ lines, but the need to convert a Kentucky factory to build a bevy of new, lower-cost electric rides is bumping the otherwise popular Escape and the well-received Corsair models into oblivion. Production ends later in 2025, and though Ford says it will build enough Escapes and Corsairs to sell well into 2026, reports suggest it will not offer either model in California, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, Vermont, or Washington as the cars don’t meet their stricter emissions regulations.

Genesis G80 Electrified: The G80 Electrified suffers from being both a luxury sedan in an SUV-dominated marketplace and a full-electric one at that. Scant sales and uncertainty with regard to trade tariffs likely triggered the Korean electric sedan’s demise. The gas-powered version, however, will continue for 2006 and beyond.

Infiniti QX50 and QX55: The compact QX50 crossover luxury SUV and its more coupe-like (but cargo challenged) QX55 variant are being discontinued at the end of the current model year. Both will be replaced for 2026 by a single model, the larger and more upscale QX60.

Lexus RC: Production ends on the gas, hybrid and top-performing F versions of the Lexus RC sports coupe later this year after a 10-year run. The curvaceous car will go out with a bang, however, thanks to Final Edition versions that are dressed up with red brake calipers, specific trim items and suede cabin accents. The RC will reportedly be replaced at some point by an as-yet unnamed coupe.

Mercedes-Benz GLC and GLE Coupes: Looking to winnow slower sellers from its crowded showrooms, Mercedes-Benz is killing off the GLC Coupe and the GLE Coupe SUV variants. While each are stylish looking with their coupe-like rooflines, the extra swoop compromises both models’ rear headroom and cargo space, with buyers neglecting the concept as an answer to a question nobody’s asked.

Nissan Altima: Another sedan bites the dust as the Nissan Altima gets its pink slip for 2026, following the larger Maxima’s demise for 2025. The Altima has been around since 1993 as a livelier alternative to models like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, but is succumbing to changing market preferences.

Nissan Versa: As consumers widely complain that new cars cost too much, the only model left in the U.S. that starts out at under $20,000 will not return for 2026. Reports suggest the Nissan Versa is being double-teamed by low profit margins and a withering demand for entry-level sedans. Plus, with most Versas being built in Mexico we suspect import tariffs could jack up its sticker price beyond what shoppers would be inclined to pay for a small and woefully underpowered car.

Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman: These more-affordable, though only marginally less aggressive, open- and closed-roof alternatives to a Porsche 911 aren’t so much going away for 2026, as they will take at least a year off and eventually be replaced by a new 718 EV full-electric sportscar for 2027.

Porsche Macan: The compact Porsche Macan SUV will reportedly become another internal-combustion casualty so that a new full-electric version may take its place in the not-too-distant future. However, with the Macan being the brand’s top-selling model and Porsche reconsidering what was once planned to be a nearly all-electric future, a gas-powered alternative may still be in the works.

Subaru Legacy: Say it ain’t so, Subaru. Another automaker pulls the plug on what was once its mainstay family sedan, in this case the midsize Legacy. It debuted for 1990 with standard all-wheel-drive as its calling card, which is why the car saw its first wave of popularity in snow-prone areas of the U.S. Sales have been eroding in recent years as consumers continue to make SUVs their rides of choice.

Toyota GR Supra: The super GR Supra sports coupe returned to the U.S. market with much fanfare for the 2020 model year. Developed jointly and sharing components with the BMW Z4, both models will be cancelled sometime in 2026. The GR Supra’s passing will be marked with a limited-production Supra MKV Final Edition that’s distinguished by matte black 19-inch wheels, a carbon fiber spoiler and specific interior and exterior trim items.

Volvo S60: Though it’s built in the U.S. and would likely avoid the brunt of the federal government’s import tariffs, the midsize Volvo S60 sedan is being sent packing due to underwhelming demand.

Volvo S90: Volvo’s flagship S90 sedan will be shown the door for 2026 due to meager sales, and what’s expected to be a big tariff-fueled price hike on the Chinese-built S90 that would push this otherwise plush and capable four-door car beyond affordability.
