Powering the age of robotics, Nvidia launches Jetson Thor into general availability

Nvidia Corp. today announced the general availability of the Jetson AGX Thor developer kit and production modules, a platform for creating a powerful new artificial intelligence supercomputer designed to act as a “brain” for robots across numerous industries.

“We’ve built Jetson Thor for the millions of developers working on robotic systems that interact with and increasingly shape the physical world,” said founder and Chief Executive Jensen Huang.

Powered by an Nvidia Blackwell graphics processing unit and featuring 128 gigabytes of memory, the company’s system-on-module T5000 Thor provides up to 2,070 teraflops of AI compute to run the latest AI models, all at 130 watts. It will also come in a lighter T4000 version that approaches 70 watts for smaller workloads at 1,200 teraflops.

Jetson Thor, the next-generation “robot brain,” surpasses previous-gen Jetson AGX Orin, offering up to 7.5 times higher AI computing power and 3.5 times greater energy efficiency for running generative AI models. This includes popular large language models, vision language models and vision language action models, including Issac GR00T N1.5, designed to power humanoid robots.

“The development of capable humanoid robots hinges on our ability to run powerful AI models directly on the robot, enabling real-time learning and interaction,” said Brett Adcock, founder and CEO of Figure AI Inc., a startup developing humanoid robots.

Jetson Thor provides significant computing power for running multiple sensors at once with low latency and executing AI models based on data delivered from them. This platform can support various types of robotics, including humanoids, robotic arms, warehouse drones, aerial drones and aquatic drones.

Nvidia doesn’t discriminate on the term “robots” when it comes to form. In fact, the company extends the term across all “physical AI,” which refers to enabling machines to perceive, understand and interact with the real, physical world using sensors and actuators. This includes machines that can self-repair in factories, smart buildings that adjust room temperatures by changing vents, and entire campuses that automate energy consumption and maintenance.

The company said more than 2 million developers are using its robotics stack, including early adopters Agility Robotics Inc., Amazon Robotics LLC, Boston Dynamics Inc., Caterpillar Inc., Figure AI Inc., Hexagon AB, Medtronic plc and Meta Platforms Inc.

The Jetson AGX Thor developer kit is available now, starting at $3,499. Testing done on this system will be readily transferable to production. Jetson Thor T5000 production modules will be available through worldwide production partners starting at $2,999, with the T4000 starting at $1,999.
