Apple could be preparing to add reverse wireless charging to its iPhone 17 Pro. If so, the new model will be able to charge accessories such as AirPods, an Apple Watch, or even a MagSafe battery pack simply by placing them on the back of the phone.
The rumor comes from Weibo leaker Fixed Focus Digital, who says Apple has tested the system. However, they’re unclear on whether the feature will be immediately available when the new model debuts this fall.
Apple’s first instance of wireless reverse charging was through the MagSafe battery pack for the iPhone 12, which could return some of its power to the pack. This changed when Apple discontinued the MagSafe battery pack in 2023 as part of the USB-C transition on the iPhone 15 line. As of now, iPhone 15 and newer models can undertake wired reverse charging of devices like AirPods and Apple Watch through the USB-C port at up to 4.5 watts. Wireless reverse charging remains absent.

When it comes to other known brands, Samsung first added what it calls Wireless PowerShare with the Galaxy S10 series in 2019. Since then, this function has been found on Galaxy S, Galaxy Z Fold, and Flip models.
Google entered the space later with Battery Share on the Pixel 5 in 2020, which does a similar job for Pixel Buds and other Qi accessories. But Google has removed the Battery Share on the new Pixel 10 series in favor of adding stronger magnets for a MagSafe-like add-on, Pixelsnap.
