As Remarkable has launched its newest digital notebook, we are keen to see how it measures up to the Remarkable 2.
Considering we gave the Remarkable 2 a solid four-star rating and top spot on our best e-ink tablet list, the Paper Pro Move has big shoes to fill.
To see what’s really new with the e-ink tablet, we’ve compared its specs to the Remarkable 2 below and highlighted the key differences below.
Price and Availability
The newly launched Remarkable Paper Pro Move comes equipped with the Marker stylus and costs £399. If you’d prefer to upgrade to the Marker Plus, then this will set you back £439.
At the time of writing, the Remarkable 2 is only slightly cheaper than the Paper Pro Move, with a starting price of £389 which rises to £429 when paired with the Market Plus.
Paper Pro Move has a colour display
Like the Paper Pro, the Paper Pro Move is fitted with Remarkable’s Canvas Color display which allows users to write and highlight notes in colour. Unlike LCD or LED screens, the Canvas Color display doesn’t use bright lights to produce colours, which means tones can look more muted.
Instead, the Paper Pro Move’s display is fitted with millions of tiny ink particles that are divided into four different colours, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and White, which combine to create different shades.
The Remarkable 2, on the other hand, has a simple black-ink display instead and doesn’t support colour notes or handwriting.

Paper Pro Move has a smaller display
A key feature of the Paper Pro Move is its compact screen size. While the Remarkable 2 has a 10.9-inch screen, the Paper Pro Move’s is just 7.3-inches instead, making it smaller than even the iPad Mini. In fact, it’s so small that Remarkable claims you can keep it in your bag or even a pocket.
Whether you prefer a smaller or larger display depends entirely on your own needs. While a smaller screen makes the device more portable and better equipped for more discrete note-taking, a larger screen naturally gives you more space to play with.

Paper Pro Move is lighter
Perhaps unsurprisingly considering its small display size, the Paper Pro Move is considerably lighter than the Remarkable 2 and weighs just 235g. Its lightweight size means it’s arguably a better choice for those who want a more portable e-ink device and don’t want to be weighed down.
While the Remarkable 2 is lighter than the Paper Pro, it’s still heavier than the Paper Pro Move at 403.5g. Even so, it’s worth noting that we still hailed the Paper Pro as being “ridiculously light”, so the difference is arguably negligible in everyday use.
The Paper Pro Move includes the same amount of built-in storage as the Paper Pro, with 64GB. In comparison, the Remarkable 2 includes a measly-sounding 8GB of storage.
It’s worth noting that both the Paper Pro Move and Remarkable 2 can be paired with Remarkable’s Connect subscription which includes unlimited cloud storage too. Although it’s not necessarily a compulsory add-on, at just £2.99 a month or £29.90 a year it’s especially worth it if you are stuck with the Remarkable 2’s smaller storage.
Finally, unfortunately neither the Remarkable 2 or Paper Pro Move include any option for expandable storage.

Paper Pro Move has a built-in backlight
An unfortunate omission from the Remarkable 2 is a backlight. In fact, we concluded that the lack of backlight is “what really holds the Remarkable 2 back from greatness” as, unless you have a light source nearby, the tablet is essentially unusable without hurting your eyes.
The Paper Pro Move, fortunately, is fitted with an adjustable backlight which allows you freedom to use the device in more lighting conditions, without risking eye strain. Speaking of eye strain, both tablets’ have a low-glare, digital paper display that reflects natural light like paper.

Early Verdict
Considering the Remarkable Paper Pro Move is only an additional £10 and benefits from a colour display, built-in backlight and 64GB of internal storage, then we’d argue it’s the more appealing choice.
However, as the Remarkable 2 is an older device then you are more likely to find a deal or a refurbished offer for it, making it a better budget-friendly option. So, if you don’t mind missing out on the above benefits, and just want a way to keep digital notes in one place, then the Remarkable 2 remains a solid option.
