igus to demonstrate FR20 affordable palletizing cobot at Pack Expo

At Pack Expo this month, igus GmbH plans to exhibit its Fairino FR20 collaborative robot. The company said it designed the cobot for industrial palletizing applications, with intelligent control systems that guarantee precise placement for stable stacking.

The system features a robust 20 kg (44 lb.) payload capacity and 1,854 mm (72.9 in.) reach with six degrees of freedom. With a repeatability of ±0.1 mm (±0.004 in.), IP54 protection, and intuitive drag-and-teach programming, igus said it is designed for heavy and dynamic tasks.

Weighing approximately 85 kg (187.3 lb.), the FR20 features EtherCAT architecture and an open platform, supporting applications such as machine tending, palletizing, and metal processing.

The new cobot is easily configurable for different palletizing patterns and features an intuitive programming interface to reduce setup time, said igus. Its extended reach covers large workspaces with enough reach to cover two pallet positions — one on each side of the robot.

The Fairino FR20 is now available

The Fairino FR20’s intelligent control system ensures consistent stacking, even in demanding industrial environments, according to igus. The company said this makes the cobot suitable for high-throughput logistics, manufacturing, and warehousing operations.

The F20 is now available in the U.S. on the RBTX online marketplace, which provides customers access to over 40 partners offering compatible kinematics, cameras, software, grippers, sensors, and control systems. The robot is available via three purchase options:

• Purchase only: Direct acquisition of the Fairino FR20 palletizer
• Purchase + training: Robot acquisition with comprehensive operator training
• Turnkey installation: Complete setup and installation for immediate operation

igus said its affordable palletizing system will be at Booth SL-11022 at Pack Expo from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 in Las Vegas. The company will demonstrate how the FR20 integrates into its low-cost automation ecosystem and how accessible robotics is transforming packaging and processing operations.

Cologne, Germany-based igus develops and produces motion plastics. These self-lubricating, high-performance polymers can improve technology and reduce costs wherever things move, it said.

In energy supplies, highly flexible cables, plain and linear bearings, and lead screw technology made of tribo-polymers, igus said it is the worldwide market leader. In 2024, igus was recognized with an RBR50 Robotics Innovation Award for its ReBeL low-cost, human-like robotic hand.
