Contrary to previous reports, the latest leak refers to the new electric motor as the ‘4D2.’ We won’t know for sure until the Model 3 Performance launches, but this does mean the latest version of the hot electric sedan will have a wicked turn of speed.
The front motor is reportedly unchanged, with 212 hp on tap. This would result in a combined output of 618 horses, significantly more potent than the outgoing model. As a reminder, the current Model 3 Performance has around 430 horsepower in total, so this would make for a massive upgrade if the latest rumors are to be believed.
With 430 hp, it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds before reaching a top speed of 162 mph. As a result, the upcoming model should see the sprint time dip below three seconds and the top speed increased to 170 mph+, perhaps.
