Nope this game is good for kids! Its not funny, gameplay n quick time events suck. This holds your hand i couldn't even trash my own spaceship i had no control.
Honestly 2 whole years later I wish this game got a sequel it was fun and honestly I think I might like this version of the guardians more.
I put this off long enough for it to become free on epic lol, finally jumping in lol, Yahtzee croshaw couldn't be more right calling these kind of "cinematic" games as ghost train rides
I loved this game so much. 11/10
I was so devastated seeing Ko-rel die, that one hit me hard the most.
I dont agree with your take on combat. For me it seems like a great refreshing system that takes strategy and being focused to be good at, and it makes you feel like you are in an actual action scene where everyone is actually doing something. But yeah the hudles suck apart from the music
I played this recently and this is what I wished suicide squad was. here is the thing in the final boss fight against the grand unifier. I huddled. the song "I need a hero" played. and I never grinned like an idiot like this before
they just dropped the game for free on the epic games store Poggers
Been a while, but since epic gifted it I'll leave my impressions after a few hours.
Gameplay is extremely easy and bland, not engaging at all.
Story is borderline nonsensical, like every other mcu shenanigan.
Characters are well written (especially for a videogame), but the multiple choices can make starlord feel very inconsistent. They are not very deep or adult, but that's not what they were going for, so whatever. The real issue I take with them is that they always banter about their past adventures (with which I am not familiar), and I'm left feeling like I'm out of place in their group of friends.
Jokes are unfunny, Drax is ok.
The "huddle" is so impossibly cringe that I shivered every time.
I don't think I will finish it.
its a really good game. 👍
Shoutout to epic for giving us this gift for free.
Just completed it. What an amazing game. It has some jank and I had to reload a couple of times because I got stuck in some rubble, but aside from that this is everything you could want from a story driven action adventure game. Even the shooting is actually enjoyable once you get used to it and unlock more stuff. The story and the writing are the best things about the game of course. So good, much, much better than the shitty unfunny movies in fact. I hope somehow they make a sequel.
It all looks good except for combat, combat looks like ass, your AI team basically do nothing unless you command them to use an ability, stupid lock on system and its so simplistic it looks like it was designed for little kids.
It's free on epic rn.
i think i saw this review 2 years back and one thing that stuck in my mind about this game was the combat and on how you criticized it. oh boy, i think this is some of the rare moments that i 100% disagree with you. you done flark it up on the combat. LOL.
The combat has more to offer than what i assumed you had experienced. The Stagger mechanic and how your combat momentum would build up to the huddle which rewards you playing creatively with your fellow Guardians is a pretty interesting mechanic. I didnt feel that the huddle mechanic got in the way of the combat but instead it's more of a second chance kind of mecahnic. The combos and the designated role of your fellow Guardians are super important. It's kinda like chess, a very poor man's version of chess that is but never the less you need to play your pieces right. THAT my friend is a fantastic way to handle a game about TEAM work and fits perfectly in the concept and narrative of the game. Not sure if Eidos changed stuff the past 2 years, but you can NOT use the huddle mechanic if you choose to. Besides i think huddle is such a unique and exclusive mechanic to just GotG, i mean, i don't think theres other games that uses this mechanic to not only buff the combat but to accentuate the characters while they are in the middle of an active combat. It makes so much sense for them to huddle ya know? it's the Garderners of the Galaxy, it's so ridiculous yet it's so right for GotG. Just Brilliant. Huddles acts like a saving scenario if you messed up your battle with your enemies, it's to recollect your thoughts and refocus again (with a team buff if you successfully inspire your teamates), and if you fail to inspire your teamates with the right talk, the team wont get any buffs but only you get a buff, which in itself, kinda funny and it's so a-Peter Quill-moment.
If Peter's gun is able to smoke the enemies, i mean, why would you need the other Guardians for? Again, our fellow Guardians are there for their specific purposes, it's all about team work and because of how the combat is, it expands the connection you have with all the Guardians both mechanically and in narrative. There are combos as well with your team mates and melee. I find that using Peter's Elemental gun with coordinated melees will just smoke the weaker enemies, but for the Elite enemies, thats team work. Which is fair and a balance design imo. Also, enemies have elemental weakness, you strike these enemies with the right element and Peter does TONS of damage. Sure, you don't have access to them from the beginning as you gradually unlock them through the chapters but, again, melee combos and team work. I think had Eidos design Peter's gun to be powerful it would take away a lot from your team and goes againts the whole idea of having a team in the first place.
Now for Star Lord being the only character that we can use. Why is this a negative thing? To only use Star Lord means It helps to solidify the storyline into a very cohesive and streamlined narration from a main point of view, which is the main character's point of view, Star Lord. I don't hear anyone complaining about why are we only able to use Shepard in Mass Effect? Yet we have a trilogy with tons of characters we know and love from that game. Can't imagine having to play ALL the other characters in Mass Effect to just what? for the sake of playing other characters? I mean i guess that's the question isn't it? does it add anything to the game if we are able to play all these other characters? the answer is no for GotG because its not needed, we do play the other characters by issuing commands to them, so we use them indirectly, it's more than enough and it's what is needed for the game. clearly Eidos main focus was the story, so having a decent combat was perfect for the heavy story beats that they wanted for the game. I think had they went heavy on the rpg route it would have distracted a lot from the story. Well we do have perks in the game so thats kind of rpg-lite.
The combat cannot be compared to a full fledged action arpg game, it's mainly there strictly for the action component of the game, that wasn't too simple that it cheapened our gameplay experience or was it too complicated that it took away from our enjoyment of the story. The combat was very well balanced.
I have to go back to Star Lord again here, the game was structured around him and it was a sound decision by Eidos to make it so. This is why it works so well in the storytelling department. Without the focus on Star Lord, the whole game would have fallen apart. Too many cooks in the kitchen will poison the meal, but as most of us will agree on, the story in Guardians of the Galaxy is simply amazing. One of the best superhero stories.
Guardians of the Galaxy is a great game, but above all it's a great Guardians of the Galaxy game.
I am 35 and bought this game on PC two days ago. I'm having a blast, you can definitely feel the passion and love developer's put in their product.
It's worth every cent asked for it IMO.
14:00 That's what it's all about! The arts…the more more more!
This review is literally just me if I've never read a comic book before, and assums everything is like "dUh mOvIeS"
This isn't 100% like movies. The comics exist, and they act more like comics version BY FAR.
this game + the imsomniac Spider-man games are part of my personal made up videogame Marvel universe
I didnt know this game was so good until today, because I assumed it would be another POS like the Avengers game that preceded it. Im sure im not the only one, they probably lost out on millions of dollars worth of sales because they couldn't control their greed and almost pushed away their fans with the live-service riddled Avengers. Theres a winning formula that have been perfected over the last 20 years for single player games, just stick to it and people will give you their money, there was or will never be a need for live-service games. Just make an MMO if you want people to keep playing forerver.
I just git a ps5 i never beat this on ps4 so now im ginna beat it on my ps5
I loved it! As far as I'm concerned this is the third and final movie! Not that abysmal attempt of GOTG Vol. 3
You. Can. Only. Control. Star lord? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I just beat this and it was the perfect everything for me. Gameplay wasn't spectacular but was good enough and the story was just fantastic! It felt like an interactive movie, got it on sale after watching GoTG 3 and I'm glad I did.
So sad that this game was dead on arrival because of the avengers fiasco.
excuse my language, this game fucking slaps.
So sad I got to it so late. Just got through it. One of the best games i've played i years. Really a great game!
So-called larger games are usually padded with grinding. For what it is and what it's not trying to be, IMO this game is a masterpiece
Hopefully this game gets more traction now after the Guardians 3 movie. I loved this game so much. Incredible campaign and set pieces, and the gameplay never got boring as the abilities scaled up well over time and felt fun. The writing here was simply incredible. Maybe even the best ever because it was just so committed to these characters, they all felt so genuine.
I would 100% strongly recommend this game if you like story based games.
It looks and sounds utterly fantastic.
The acting is top notch.
The writing is *chef's kiss*.
The weakest part of the game is the game play loop. The game play loop isn't going to make the game better but it also doesn't make the game bad. It's serviceable which works just fine if you have a beautiful game with a great story.
This is the one game I absolutely fucking demand a sequel. One of my favourite games ever
Picked it up for less than $20 when it went on sale before GotG3 movie — a much better value for my money than Vol 3. The combat on PC is a bit clunky to manage at times, but otherwise an excellent game.
