Lol 4/10 is definitely just the wrong opinion. Marvels avengers was a 4/10. Whoever did the review probably just got into a fight with their boyfriend that morning and just taking it out on sonic frontiers. The game wasnt perfect but it wasnt a fuxking disaster
Felix skill issue
15:18 nice one editor
"That sound came from a Zelda game!"
…"That's a sonar ping. It's been around a lot longer than Zelda games."
Boo. Just say you didn't want to review this game. We all know you delayed the review to see what other critics were saying first. The fact you gave Sonic Forces a higher score than this is telling of your credibility.
id give this game i 9 or maybe even a 10 out of 10! but you do you im not stoping you and i support you and what you say and, i understand your opinion!
Too many automated segments.
Combat in Sonic shouldn't have health bars. Enemies might have different kill conditions, like jump on head, roll through, or homing attack, but should never be damage sponges.
The controls it gives you are terrible …. I highly recommend changing the turning speed to 35ish and stick sensitivity for joycons at 10
My favorite 3D Sonic game since generations. I find it so relaxing blasting through the terrain, launching into the sky, dashing your way through obstacles. I also really like the puzzles and fishing segments that provide a really nice change of pace. I'm playing it on pc and it was janky on day one but it's slowly improving. Are there bugs? yes, lots lol but it feels really good for the most part and the speed is unlike anything since SA1. If you're not a Sonic fan I don't know if you will like it, but I think most Sonic fans will love it.
This isnt a very constructive debate youre having “if youre familiar with sonic games you will have fun and if you dont have experience with sonic games that is why you arent having fun” i have played all the sonic games. And i didnt have fun!
3:30 nails it ,i mean, it actually feels like a Sonic game 🤷♂️. So if you DON'T like going fast , constantly ruining into the lv design, dieing, and ultimately trying again for a slightly faster run. Then this might not be your game. I've always felt that classic sonic is like designed for speed runners.
Great discussion. I have a long history with the Sonic series. I grew up in the 16-bit era and Genesis is my favorite system of all-time in large part because of the Sonic games of that era (including non-Genesis entries like Sonic CD and Game Gear's Sonic Chaos). However, after Sonic Adventure 2 the series was so mid-tier to bad that I skipped most entries (other than Secret Rings which was a disappointment) until Sonic Generations on the 360 in 2011. Phenomenal game. Since then it's been more average and below titles but for some reason I decided to get Frontiers and I'm happy I did. Wouldn't put it on the same level as 1-3, Knuckles, CD or Generations but it is my favorite after that and a genuinely good Sonic the Hedgehog release. I do think being a long-time fan helps my enjoyment but I'd still recommend the game to anybody. If the option is there, however, go for the PS5 or Xbox Series X version. I got it for the XSX and, as cool as portable play is on the Switch, a game that relies on speed like this one needs to be played on much more capable hardware.
Alex: Gah I knew I’d say Sonic Forces at some point!
Narrator: Little did Alex know that was the second time he said Sonic Forces.
i dont wanna completely tear down your criticism but from what i'm hearing and seeing from your gameplay theres a few problems on YOUR end. for one you played it on a switch, which is basically just a glorified tablet. the pop in and crunchy graphics are because the switch is kinda awful and makes all games look like that. i was actually in shock when i saw your recorded gameplay. if the game had looked like that when i played it i would think my game was literally broken. but playing on a PS5 there was virtually no pop in and the textures never got all crunchy like that. play on better hardware.
and two, you kept mentioning how the game doesn't tell you stuff. like how you somehow didn't understand that Super Sonic uses your rings as a time limit. it sounds like that was really frustrating and made that boss fight seem almost impossible. but, like, if you just read the gigantic text box that pops up right when you become Super Sonic you would know that it takes rings. and this box pops up every time you get all 7 emeralds in that first boss fight. if you just read it once you would know. same with the combat/controls in general. if you just read the abilities as you unlocked them then you would understand how they worked. i took the time to read the stuff and i had absolutely not one issue with the controls or combat.
i was able to 100% this game in just under 20 hours and it is by far my favorite 3D Sonic game.
Sonic Frontier is basically what Sonic 06 failed to be.
Everytime I make a mistake in frontiers, I don't blame it on jank, I get relieved that the safety wheels we've had since secret of the rings are finally off again. The controls are good enough that you can recover from most mistakes anyway.
I feel like Sonic Frontiers tried to be like Breath of the Wild when it should've tried to be like Mario Odyssey.
The control is perfect. The level design is great. But the challenges are extremely repetitive. It tries to be Breath of the Wild in this sense, but Sonic's moveset is incomparable to Link's, and the "puzzle solving" is pathetically simple. And the reward for completing these challenges is not sufficiently rewarding, being… a map. The RPG elements are redundant when the game progression is linear. The seeds and Kokos felt like padding. This works in Zelda, because the overall goal is to get stronger so that you can defeat Ganon, and the game rewards you every step along the way.
Cyberspace was a great mechanic. It was exactly as I imagined it: linear levels scattered within the overworld, like Sonic Adventure 1. But the levels were all repetitive, visually. I love Green Hill and Chemical Plant as much as anyone, but every single Cyberspace level was one of maybe three themes with absolutely no variety. And there was little reward for getting S ranks and/or Red Rings. Plus, every single Cyberspace level was short, three minutes at most. Even in the final world. I'm not asking for a 20 minute Eggmanland level like Unleashed, but 5 to 7 minute levels would be nice to test your Sonic skills.
The game is far from bad, but there are so many "almosts" that it's disappointing.
1:51 He calls it Sonic Forces!!! 😅😅😅
Git gud
Alex: "There must be things you like about the game!"
Felix: "Oh yeah! The game play loop… is there."
That's probably the highest praise anyone's ever given to a game! (8:53)
NintendoLife gave the game a 4/10, yet meanwhile they gave Sonic Forces a 6/10.
Makes sense.
We live in a timeline where the newest Sonic game is more polished than the newest Pokemon game. Frontiers is already $40 at Best Buy, so I'm gonna take the plunge. But I have absolutely no interest in Scarlet/Violet.
EDIT: Just went to make the purchase and saw Amazon is now offering Frontiers for $29! Glad I waited till the night!
This game stinks of low quality to me. I feel like this franchise deserves much more love/better developers. Enjoying this game depends on your standards I guess.
I really want sega to update the game to replay the boss fights and cutscenes and maybe a shadow dlc
Your Sonic is running slow because your speed is level 1/99 lmao
I'ma just wait till this game is free on playstation but I loved sonic as a kid I alway will deep down but I appreciate all your opinions!
It’s a great game, that review came from the anti hype from Sonic haters, I get it. Sometimes we have moments of weakness. Just don’t buy into the hate. Those Anti-fans LOVE to hate.
Sonic 3B/ Blast uses three dimensions, so yes- it’s 3D. It’s actually a great idea, to bring a marble madness kind of game with Sonic. Probably it would have been better to give it another Sonic character like Tails or Amy to distinguish it (like Nintendo does).
Sonic doesn’t work in pure 3D design. It NEEDS a hybrid 2D/3D to work. I think people got honey dicked buy Sonic Adventure 1&2 and have told the world “Sonic games in 3D were good at one time”. Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 are good games, I’ll say that. But there’s a reason why you never see those games in top games of all time list. They just aren’t the top of their class. Sonic needs to stay in his lane and keep things simple. Sonic Generations is the perfect example of when Sonic works. Nothing too flashy, plenty of 2D sections. But fun from beginning to end.
Some people loves it, hates it, are in the middle – good for them. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. – Everyone is going to have a different opinion of this game. We're all going to find things we like, hate, or dont care about. One thing is for certain – Sega selling as many copies as Sonic Adventure 2 is a good thing and it means Sonic still has a future.
