I had a goldie that barked at the front door – not excessively. My rescue lurcher never barked and just stood next to her watching. After my goldie passed, my lurcher would bark at the post man when he came to the door – no one else. She even barked at the postie van, and no other van when it pulled up. She just took on the job of her late friend. Bless them. I now have a rescue frenchie/pug and he goes ballistic at the door – so will be starting to train him on this. He was a lockdown pup and his previous owners didn;t teach him any manners or house rules. I have had him 8 months and this is the last remaining social skill for him to master. He is bright, so we will get there. Helpful tips
We need HELP. We have four dogs, we brought two siblings into our house a year ago. One of them has a “reactive personality.” Meaning that, he will react in a bad way to anything going on around him that causes disruption with our dogs.
If anyone has any suggestions on how we can stop this. We would be grateful.
We can’t even have guests come to our home without them being put in the crate. I thought about the shock collar with the remote control to try to stop them, especially our reactive dog, Jack… But, I don’t want to do anything to them that might make things worse.
I appreciate anyone’s help here that might be able to help me. We absolutely don’t want to lose any of these dogs because of their going crazy when the doorbell rings or someone knocks at the door. We’re trying to calm him down. We’ve tried treats, it’s literally a scrum at the door of all of them barking going crazy. I can’t get to any of their attention. .
Any suggestions my dog loving friends?
These are terrific pups. They love us so much… But they are so different when someone else comes to our house.
Thanks for reading and if anyone has any suggestions, thank you for your help. We have considered “doggy Boot Camp” right now, my brother is dying from cancer and is on hospice care. He also has dementia. I’m trying to take care of him and the dogs and now my injured wife as well.
Thanks for reading this very long post. I’m sorry for being so long.
I will try this with my German Shepherd and Norwegian Elkhound. I swear. If this actually works, I will write you in this November as my choice for President.
Working on this now! Thank you so much 🙂
Ok ?? How do you stop the dog from barking when you have say, a sliding glass door? Mine looks out onto an enclosed porch & the porch door (also see through) doubles as my 'front door'. I kinda want to address the issue BEFORE anything starts & my elderly dog barks at anything that dares to come near. Elderly is 9 & a Shitzu, pup is 2mo.
Why stop a dog from barking at the door? That's what they're supposed to do. Next thing you know a burglar will enter and your dog will just sit there, silent because YOU trained it to be that way!
Ehh, I don't agree with giving the dog treats when they bark to calm them down, it's gonna make them think they did a good thing and keep barking. I'd rather correct them until they stop barking and then giving them a treat. Otherwise you are promoting bad behaviour.
She's so gorgeous.
These methods unfortunately don't work great with an arrogant little Chihuahua.
Blah blah blah… the useful content starts at 2:27
I love when my dog does his job and warns me that someone is at the door
My dog barks angrily / crazily ever time I open the door to check the mail box or for any other reason.
How do you know your dog is aware that she's being rewarded for not reacting to noises like the door opening or someone walking around in apartment? Sometimes I feel like she doesn't know why
I love that it's a girl and her name's Guss 😄. I mean…. let's face it, she looks like a Guss! 😄😍🐾🐾
Didn't know you can have a horse in your house. 🤣
So…I give the dog a treat if he barks at the door?
I have a 5 month old that go crazy every evening, I can handle everything but the barking. Any tips on barking to get our attention?
How can I slow my GD eating her meals? She hoovers her food in 3 seconds. I worry about bloat.
Wait, if we give them a treat even when they bark, doesn’t that positive reinforce the barking?
skip to 2:30 for the actual video
Thank you for this video! My puppy never barked at the door until he turned about ten months old. Now he barks excessively every time and based on his behaviour I think he is anxious rather than excited. He does not show anxiety at any other time, so I think it is a covid thing as not many people have been to the house. I can’t wait to follow this with him.
My dog bites and barks but she bites us not even the one at the door
So you're giving her treats when she barks at the door ? Seems counter-intuitive
Man, every dog barks. Go to hell

What's the food plan for him? How many times does he eat?
I just wanted to give that dog a big hug
مشكلة والله البتس
What about like me i have a window by the door and if there is one movement he barks and won’t stop?!
Great video, thanks. Do you have one about stopping scratching to get in? Particularly with glass sliding doors. Our dog goes mad at the glass door and stands on his back paws scratching and crying to get in.
can you suggest a door bell ring I could download to train my dog not to respond to that sound please
My dog wants to absolutely murder anyone who rings the bell. He turns into the Tasmanian devil
Tiger, my Great Dane 6 mo puppy started barking soon as this video played! Hahaha — thank you! Been watching the channel at least a month before I got Tiger – hello from the Philippines!
Brilliant, 3 seconds in and now my dog is going mad barking at a doorbell that isn't even his! 🤣
I’m picking my dane up in a couple of weeks and these videos have been super helpful. So thank you!
Off topic, but I'm bring my male Great Dane pup home im 2 weeks. What size crate do I need to look for?
I just bought a maltipoo and he barks when someone’s at the door, how do I stop him from doing this
