This franchise is damn. Actual today after 45 year
My favorite part of this movie is the predatory Ripley. She does a good job of not being over-the-top silly about it. It is always there, in the background, lurking.
This was never a "bad" movie. Granted it felt more like your generic sci-fi flick than a horror movie in space. But id rather watch resurrection than the self absorbed Prometheus or Covenant.
Havent seen Romulus so i dont know which way that movie went, other than it apparently aping a lot of things that resurrection did.
Aliens Resurrection what if…?
What if Riply-8 found a 9th Clone (Riply-9) a child verion of herself & sees her as a Sibling/Offspring
Both alien 3 & alien resurrection were so sh1t I binned them after actually buying them years ago on dvd,
I watch Prometheus, covenant, alien, Romulus, aliens & that's where the franchise ends for me.
The AVP'S also binned because they are a load of 80llicks as well.
The arrival on earth contains a conestoga class vessel behind the Betty 😉
I think Prometheus, Covenant & Romulus may have softened peoples opinions on Alien 3 & Resurrection
I'd like a version with better lighting and less brown. And why do the aliens look like they're covered in oil
Weylen was clearly aquired by Alphabet and owners of Google
I have so much love for resurrection is the alien baby in the end that messes things up for me it was like WTF oh come on…..
For me the theatrical cut ist perfect. I'm eagerly waiting for the 4K version.
Worst Alien movie
"I slept too looooong" 🧟♀️
97' no internet era. means no alternate cuts for public for the next dozen of years!
Hi! You’re really creating something remarkable.
I really enjoyed the movie. However, I made the mistake of taking my son to the cinema to see this with me. It scared the crap out of him, who ending spending the night on my wife’s side of the bed 🤣
This film is a disgrace to the franchise
It's better than Romulus.
Shocking how much was recycled from this film into Romulus, which is pure garbage!
😮 what really happened when the newborn😢 enter the bedding Ship😮 replay is something wrong with the door hatch it won't close😮 Stefano go close the hatch?😅 Ripley the doors still open we need to close😮 go and check on Stefano?😅 Stefano where are you😢 he did not answer but the door was closed😮 hearing the noise Ripley knew who it was😅 the newborn looked at Ripley's😢 Ripley said put the Android down😮 the newborn fatherhood instructions😊 learning in the process call Verizon wrong😮😢 Ripley what are we going to do with the newborn it's listening to you😅 we have a bigger problem😮 the military is after us and their outnumber us one to 30😢 don't worry we have someone on our side now😅 we must protect the newborn from Weyland yutani Corporation from getting their hands on the specimen😢 the battle begins😮 oh no Ripley yutani has aliens xenomorph on their side control😮 Ripley said for now😮😮😮
Walmart-Weyland-Yutani–Pfizer-Lockheed-Martin-Siemens-Mercedes. (Also referred to as just Walmart – LOL) 🙂
They should've let the storyline end after Aliens. I say that because as much or little as I liked A/3, it made all the effort put n2 saving Newt and Hicks surviving pointless. But at least it gave Ripley a last hurrah ending. Buuut Resurrection messed that all up. Which I did NOT like.
(0:34) I love this outtake. Sigourney rocks. 😎🤘☮️
I didn't know this existed. I bought the BluRay collection and the director makes a joking comment that the theatrical cut IS the directors cut because he nailed it first time
I felt like one of this film's only defenders back in 97. I actually really liked it. Perhaps because it was such a step up, in my mind, from Alien 3, which still left a bad taste in my mouth that wouldn't go away for years. I also went into it already being a Jeunet & Caro fan, so that might have helped. My feelings for Alien 3 have actually improved and my feelings for Resurrection have somewhat declined over the years. I think I see more of what 3 could have been, and see more of the flaws in Resurrection than I used to. I'm glad the Special Edition cut exists, but I also prefer the theatrical version.
Still, it's a wonderfully weird movie and has some great performances. And as you pointed out, the crew of the Betty are clearly a rough draft for Firefly. I'll take Resurrection over Prometheus & Covenant any danged day of the week.
I saw this on the big screen back in 1997. I had only seen the others on TV/vhs until then.
I had very mixed feelings at the time and I have watched it very rarely on home video over the years.
Walmart has a Sam Walton AI now, perfect for running a Corporate android
I LOVE this flick. Pure comic book tounge in cheek action. ALL the Alien comic book tropes. Mad scientist, check. Off grid black ops military research station check, androids, check. space pirates, check. And RIPLEY!!
I liked Elgian, sucked he died in a dumb way.
Cut it all you want, movie was garbage.
I grew up with the original movies after AVP came out, and I loved them all, and I think I prefer the theatrical version.
The film had the strangest approach to cloning. I’m not sure anyone on the production actually understood what it is.
This movie is better than you remember
97 in theatres was my biggest disappointment with resurrection. Love the Trilogy.
Try to forget
Fun Fact: Both versions mostly suck. Mostly.
I enjoyed this movie more than Alien 3.
The Walmart line would absolutely be Disney if made today. It seems like they require pop culture refrences to always use properies they own, in the MCU at least. It's so frequent its kind immersion breaking.
Hmmmm I've not seen the alternate ending for Resurrection. It was on the Quad disk????? I must have missed it
I thought there was another cut available?
The A3 alternate version didn't seem that different. Sometimes seeing different versions of scenes, or previously unseen or deleted material, can just get in the way of the enjoyment of what you had. It's kind of a double edged sword. For example, I like both versions of Halloween 6.
I much prefer the director cut of The Abyss, Terminator 2. There's a 70 minute extended cut of Waterworld I want to watch. Original Dune could be retooles. He'll the StarWars movies, including originals could be extended. I can sit for a 3 hour movie, if I'm convinced it's worth it.
I have a lot of fun and respect for this movie. It's my favorite of the series but I like them all, for different reasons. Every installment has its own look and feel and I think that is what keeps them popular and interesting.
Ridley has gone back to the more haunted ship type of story but the newer iterations don't have the same feel or star power.
After the dark and gritty A3, this was a welcome relief. Still plenty violent but with more fun and interesting characters and certainly better dialog😂😂. It's a movie not trying to take itself too seriously, while providing enough action and suspense to warrant multiple viewing. I could pop 3 or 4 in ,most anytime.
I have quite a soft spot for this entry. The characters are actually quite fun to me, I really like Ripley 8. As far as the call backs are concerned, they didn't take away for me personally as they make sense in this movies' case since a lot of them come directly from Ripley 8 since she seems to be experiencing memories of her past in bits and pieces triggering emotions she doesn't quite understand. I think it really works well for her character development.
The aliens are pretty well thought out too with how they look and act since they are an amalgamation of Ripley's DNA and their own. And as far as the Newborn is concerned, I really don't see the absolute dumb side to it, it makes sense to me. The Xenomorphs are a mystery, they are perfect organisms that can adapt to their situation and surroundings, so for something like that to happen with the queen having a child is pretty wild but cool in my honest opinion.
I would have really like to see where the sequels went with this direction, the humor was a bit weird but that could have just been to break the ice a bit whereas the later sequels could have delved into darker territory and horror.
Did you ever do a video on the fate of Ripley 8? I think that would be a fun one. 😁
I love the alternate ending. And the score.
I've always been curious where the video game footage comes from in the cockpit arcade machine.
Kind ofnlooks like a Klingon Bird of Prey blowing up.
Haven’t seen it since it came out but at the time I saw it at the theatre and was then able to the vhs later that year and watched it with my school friends quite a few times. The fact that it could be re-watched so many times says it all. It’s not great story wise overall but definitely well made and that is credit to the director I think. I was not then and to this day am not crazy about hybrid aliens so the end was a bit of a let down. First 3/4 though are good fun, if stupid.
Movie sucks either way. You don't have to force more Ripley when her story is wrapped. Alien3 ends her arc perfectly, and freed the series up to move in a different direction. Then they just shoehorn Weaver back into it when she's so much older she barely resembles the character anymore.
Whedon is a hack. He tried to turn it into the Avengers or Buffy, full of goofy quips and horror comedy. Jeunet was an interesting choice, but in the end the wrong one. Ultimately there's no fixing that script.
I have not seen this in years… although I did see this in the cinema.
Controversially I like this more than 3 and probably 2… Prior to this I was a big fan of Jean Pierre Jeunet's work, especially with Marc Caro (cinematographer). Whilst it was a little bumpy, I found the visuals brilliant, in keeping with Alien but also bringing JPJ and MC use of light and colour really into the fore. One area you can see the style is in the amazing colour of water, something JJP/MC used in a lot of his films, from The City Of Lost Children (La cite des enfant perdu) and Le Delicatessen.
It is a great example of JPJ using a team of familiar actors, Dominique Pinon? has been in maybe all or at least most of his films, and Rom Pearlman was in the French language La cite Des Enfants Perdu… which thinking about it also had cloning.
So for me Alien is the star of the franchise, Aliens is very 80s (I think of it in terms of Robocop, seminal for the decade… a little too brash and cliche heavy. in reflection I feel 2 and 4 (resurrection) have equal value… the former for style, and the latter for visuals. Ressurection also has strong dialogue thanks to Wheedon, although that does leave a bitter taste in ones mouth now all considered. I vaguely remember him being brought in after the initial screenwriter was fired.. maybe I am wrong, but I vaguely remember him being chosen to tighten up the dialogue. There is definite Weedon banter in the film, always remember how Ron Pearlman's Johner destroying the sombre moment with his "a chick thing" comment.
Although as a big fan of Firefly and Serenity (maybe another factor to me liking Res.) you can see the Betty's crew was very much a prototype … Call is River (not quite "human", special), and also the smart female mechanic aspect that is Kaylee; Johner is Jane, Frank is the "amoral" but capable Mal. Firefly is also a rip off of StarHunter Redux… or at least, if you imagine the Betty merging with the protagonists of Star Hunter, and add in some more dystopian feel of aliens… you can see exactly where Joss Weedon got his story… (and throw in a good western like Wagon Train).
I have not seen the special edition but should find it.. but its interesting how little it changes. Definitely will look out for it.
The longer scene with Annalee Call
& Ripley 8 (the one where Ripley
spoke about a little girl she tried
to save in the past) also established
that Call has changed the course
of the Auriga to an "uninhabitated
quadrant" on Earth, as well as the
ship's deceleration systems being
deactivated.
I wish they had used more from the original draft of the screen play that leaked, like the walk through the agroponics bay.
