I do like the narration and how you bring your points across. But what went wrong in the with the quality of the game footage?
I give you the good, the bad, and the ugly.
The good: i got the game for free when i rebuild my computer by buying motherboard and graphics card.
The bad. Trying to take the story from dead space and storyline was weak.
The ugly. Everything else
Pre-ordered this game as soon as I knew Schofield and ex-Visceral were the devs. The game was trash compared to Dead Space and average compared to other modern games. Basically, it was a low-rent Dead Space knock off. Graphics were good NOT great, gameplay was average at best, as was the story and voice acting. Loved the OG Dead Space and DS two. I consider the OG DS one of the greatest games, not just horror survival games, of all time. Thanks for putting this video together, good stuff.
I had fun with this game, but I still recognize its flaws and shortcomings. “Half-baked” is how I would describe TCP. They can do much better than this. Perhaps they will get the chance.
I did enjoy the commentary. I did not enjoy the incessant music in the background.
I mean honestly I think devs have just lost the plot. Just imagine how much it cost to hire and re create a holywood actor for the main role? Literally why? Who actually cares? Just an example of how they seem to focus on random crap that no one who plays games cares about.
why is the one area they try to be their own thing is the combat?
If you're going to rip off your own work so hard, why cut out the best parts?
I totally agree with all of your points. For me, the biggest issues were the lack of puzzles, the homogeneous setting, and the lazy item-find-system. Even though all the rooms are different, they're similar enough to look basically the same. I really wish the developers took a page out of resident evil and diversified the settings enough to make the players feel like they're not in a constant monotony of endless corridors. The complete lack of puzzles was also a huge misfire. And whenever there was a 'puzzle', you could literally solve it in the same room (usually you have to find a key on a body in that room). But, for me, the biggest annoyance was the item-find-system. In resident evil, finding an item was like finding a hit of dopamine. You're just so happy to get those shotgun shells or that key item that'll unlock a new door.
But, because of the lack of puzzles and diversified settings, finding items in Callisto Protocol doesn't create the same feeling of ecstasy. Items are scarce (as they should be in a survival horror game), but they're placement feels random. They're also not hard to find. In Resident Evil, players are rewarded for thoroughly searching rooms and going off the beaten path to find new items. In this game, there's no such reward. Whenever I deliberately went off the very obvious path, all I would find is an extra enemy to fight and no new items. It's like the game wants you to follow one linear-route and not to explore the world at all. Such a development choice makes the game even more boring and monotonous. I really glad the Dead Space remake strayed from these sorts of choices by sticking to the old Dead Space formula in some areas and improving on it in others.
while i agree to the some points raised here, i find it a bit far-fetched to arrive at a conclusion that this is some unfortunate pattern that every gaming franchise go through to meet their demise (i.e., by being cocky and that somehow that they will succeed despite their sub-par follow-up)…even more so to lump CP in this group. CP did copy some of the concepts from DS (unapologetically, since it's from the same creator), because they worked and they fit in the game…but they did not copy everything…the gameplay is very different! you have to give credit to CP to try something new (leaning on melee as opposed to weapons in DS) which IMO was successful to a degree. i honestly would have been more disappointed if CP did end up a DS with a fresh coat of paint. i'm not saying CP is GOTY-material and i admit it has its faults, but with the gameplay that appealed to me, I was able to overlook its faults (barely, though) and enjoy it for what it is. if anything, its path to its failure is comparable to what happened in Order: 1886…so much potential, and it could have been so much better.
I don’t feel sorry for anyone who bought this garbage.
Just finished this game. People are being WAAAAAYYYYY to harsh on this entry.
Visually stunning. Combat mechanics are vastly different to Dead Space as you are encourage to be more melee focused. Story is similar-ish, but not close enough as to be construed as anywhere near a copy. Very well done voice acting.
It is more of a $40/$50 game than a $70, but let’s not make it habit of shitting on every game right at release. Give it a chance and let it breathe. Profit move exists, but literally every game is made with the intention of making money.
Being overly cynical doesn’t make you smart nor does it make you correct.
what's with the video's screen size?
Too boring. Simple. Absolutely no variation in gameplay & very little plot to speak of. Looks nice but that is it.
I personally like Th Calisto Protocol. I hope they can justify a sequel because I think the devs can get it right next time.
The Dead Space remake is, in fact, a far more satisfactory sci-fi horror experience!
I’m actually having a lot of fun with Callisto now on pc. Looks phenomenal and plays completely smooth. It’s actually fun when it works, shame it took this long to make it work. I had the game both for the pc and ps5 at launch. Returned my pc copy but then i upgraded my gpu and the game came for free. So i played it again after dead space remake. I feel a lot better than i did about it now.
But ya overall it’s average.
I really enjoyed the game on ps5 and didn't experience any bugs.
Also, CP so far has outsold Dead space in sales
I liked the game, I didnt really experience any bugs other than some slight stuttering which didnt really effect me and i did play it on release, I dont think it was trying to compete with Dead Space at all yea very similarity's but why not it was made by the the same people. I think the biggest problem was people comparing it to Dead Space but complaining about the similarity's and also complaining about the differences at the same time. Prior to playing The Calisto Protocol i had never plated Dead Space, after playing it how ever did spark a whole lot of interest in Dead Space for me and now that the Dead Space remake is out im am currently playing that and also loving it, so it worked out for me
I played bouth Callisto Protokol and the Dead Space Remake. The later wins hands down.
Great Video!
This is a very good video, you have the perfect voice and the way you speak made me initially think you had a 100k sub channel! I personally enjoyed the Callisto Protocol despite some combat, or lack there of, issues. In terms of performance while playing on a PS5 I literally didn't have a single issue during my playthrough.
Currently I am playing the Dead Space remake and absolutely love it, I also see the comparisons and similarities to Callisto Protocol as you mentioned too. Hopefully the story dlc will surprise us and have improved combat with a good story! Keep up the great work.
2 million in sales a failure eh? this is not established franchise even if this game are considered as triple A. expecting 5 million sales from the get go is kinda nuts.
Nothing went wrong its awsome game cant weight for the dlc! Its coming out this sommer.
Dead space is such a great game
