I believe Brian makes a massive error. He says we can't detect radio signals because the signals fade away. Because the aliens are so far away. I believe that's wrong. The Milky Way is 100,000 light years across. If there's another Earth on the opposite side of the galaxy, with a species as evolved as humans, their radio signals won't reach us for another 100,000 years. It has nothing to do with the radio signals fading out.
The observable universe 100 billion years across. The actual universe is assumed to be much larger, possibly 7 trillion light-years across, possibly infinitely large. So it's seems very likely that there are other stable earths out there.

To the best of our knowledge, anything with mass cannot attain the speed of light. It’s the universal speed limit. The distance between star systems is just too vast.
We haven't found the aliens because they avoid humanity for the plague it is.

We have been cohabiting or visited from time immemorial. Our understanding of them is still poor since we can't duplicate their technologies and stand by helplessly as they fly about without a care. We have interfered with some species and others seem impregnable. Their technology is not fool-proof, they have crashed historically. Our governments have avoided cluing their populations due to the fear that chaos would be the result. Religions would be questioned; religious leaders would pale. Were the ancients praying to Aliens? The "Others" (aliens) approach us but we don't seem to let their presence slip out since we are powerless if they want to go a few rounds. They have "laser" technology that puts our attempts to shame.
"The Others" may consider us as ants with nuclear weapons. Hopefully, they won't let us destroy the Earth. Prominent conventional wisdom scientists are shills for the government's coverup. Our government feels very threatened. The most popular theories are meant to deflect critical thinking. Believe them at your peril!
If a civilization is, for instance, is a few thousand years ahead of us, what's to say they have discovered a way enter a " fourth or maybe a fifth dimension that we just aren't able to be aware of in our limited 3 dimension existence.

I imagine we will not see aliens until we can easily colonize the solar system, if that. I don't imagine we will see advanced civilizations either; they probably don't have tech that we are aware of. In a thousand years, we have gone from visual communications to broadcast radio waves to directed microwaves. Imagine what someone who has been around for a million years can do—probably not radio waves.
I imagine you can say the same thing about manufacturing or impacting a planet. If you are a million+ year old civilization, chances are you know how to live with a planet so you don't pollute (change it) enough. Never know, but I don't think looking for a civilization to be like us will find us an advanced civilization. It might find another bordering on space travel like us.
And, of course, why would any alien want to show themselves to us. We are pretty crazy. Maybe they stay away from suicidal races until they get past this stage, and then they greet them to join galactic civilization.

We have similar shaped things here on Earth. A Discuss used in athletics, or a Frizbee used for family games. These things are shaped as they are for AERODYNAMIC reasons, to give LESS AIR resistance.
