The time and resources they wasted on this game could’ve been used to complete final fantasy 15.
I enjoyed Forspoken a lot. 🎉🎉
Character felt fake to me (no connection). Game looks boring form all the game play I have seen.
Honestly, Square has been a mess for a while, and it feels like so often it's because they're obsessed with trying to appeal to the West when they aren't Western. Trying to force action and Hollywood movie tropes have badly hurt Final Fantasy since FF13 IMO, then the shady stuff with NFTs and similar schemes, meanwhile I think a nig reason FF14 was so successful is because it went back to basics in a lot of ways, it was not Western centric, it was a very classic FF feel, story driven, with themes that mirror the favored FF games but now they're screwing that up too after the huge success of EW with this weird content lull that has never happened like this when they have the most money and players they have ever had, they're squandering it. But everything else, it's like they try to do everything they aren't good at or known for.
Forspoken felt like it was written by someone with no knowledge of Western audiences outside watching all the MCU movies, Fray felt like a self insert character by a writer who's an a-hole and thus, was completely blind to the fact that Fray was an a-hole the entire time while everyone around her spoke as if she wasn't. Obviously way too short and requirements way too high. Like they picked style over substance. Forspoken really just made it clear how out of touch the people in charge at Square are right now. It had so many huge problems. Like you can't expect dialogue like that to be fine when Square is known for story-telling, that's one of their biggest claims to fame from FF, Nier, etc. Not to mention the insane output of games, most of which are just meh, throw away, and almost all are action, which they have never been good at if we just say it bluntly, most Square action games are a mess, or just kinda average combat wise.
It does not inspire confidence when it feels like they don't even know why their games go popular to begin with a lot of the time now.
I've not played forspoken yet, I'll wait for it to hit PS Plus. Would absolutely love to see more Investment and focus on FF14. Also 12 minute club and shoutout to the returning subs in the comment section. 🤝
Just wanna say that I really enjoyed the game. I do wish they would have did Frey better. She’s a dope ass character, but they gave her the short end of the stick when it came to graphics.
I dont see a problem with a high quality single player narrative driven game that you will only play once to completion in about 20 hours being $60/70. Now forspoken is probably not that, but as a concept i value Quality > Quantity. Time played has very little impact/correlation to price otherwise everyone would be ok with putting a $1000 – $10,000 up front price tag to every MMO.
To forspoken's credit in this video you can at least see why its $70 in 5 seconds. Those combat animations and effects are absolutely immaculate and expensive looking. I am sure that to even break even on the development costs they had to charge in that upper range rather than $20.
Forspoken was a flop. Plain and simple.
Right now my number 1 problem with SE is the pricing of their games.
Everything they relesase doesnt go below $60.
Games like Valkyrie Elisium or the FF Pixel Remaster should have been cheaper in my opinion.
About Forspoken, that disastrous demo is what harmed the game the most.
I was interested in the game until i played the Demo, it was so bad that Made me quit after a few minututes and completely erase this game from my mind.
About FF14, I don't have enough time to play the Game as I used to.
Right now I only care about the MQS and keeping my house safe from demolition.
I just wanna say that is ok to unsub or take a break from the game, is not the end of the world.
I don't understand the people who want to play only this game and then get mad because they have nothing left to do.
But I guess I can't blame them because there was a time where I used to be like that too.
nah bud its literally the writing, she was so poorly written nobody liked her charact34
just download it illegaly like everyone else who the fk pays for offline game xD
My issue is I generally find open world games made now to be lacking. After awhile the areas feel same.
I'm playing gamepass games on a regular basis while I'm taking a mini break from 14. I'm still playing with my friends but I'm not sitting on it all the time anymore.
They need to increase the amount of content and story in 14. I think that's something that could be useful. Tons of sidequests that could flesh out the new zones every other patch. They could go back and fill in old areas. They can catchup to the current weapons so that way when an extreme launches you could then just craft it the new shiny weapon…
Just give hiroyuki ito a ff12 spiritual successor and watch reviews and core long time fans something to salivate over
"x game has underperformed"
could really be the motto of SE..
I have to wonder about Square and their expectations for sales. They divested themselves of Hitman (2016) and Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015) citing poor sales for both.
I also enjoyed Forspoken, but $70 was kind of a big ask, especially after the demo they released. Another big issue were the PC requirements, they were astronomical asking for you to have a GTX 3070/ RX6700 XT for 1440p at 30fps.
12 min club, keep up the great work Brian.
Watching the 1st minute of game play and never having played the game looks like a single player destiny…
12 minute Club
Its easy.
They need to stop trying creating Western type games.
They have a library of IPs they have not used 20 years. Perhaps that is the issue here.
They need to stick to there IPs like Xenogears, Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Rad Racer, Chocobo Racing etc.
appreciated
If you want to save Square Enix. You are going to need a time machine. Go back in time. Find some way to stop the Squaresoft – Enix merger. Because when Squaresoft became Square-Enix. It was a slow march down hill. I honestly think crap like FF13, FF15, FFVII Remake Babylons's Fall, Marvel's Avengers, or this crazy talk of SquareEnix NFT games wouldn't exist or be published by them. Which imho would be great. As soon as they started making FF games that played more like Star Ocean and less like Final Fantasies, I knew where they were going.
Probably would have saw more stuff like Chrono Trigger, or the first Valkyrie Profile, or Final Fantasy games that don't suck. Hell CT and VP alone are better then 99% of the crap S-E has put out over last two decades.
I haven't finished unlocking everything that was released Tuesday morning. 6.35 has plenty of content from my perspective.
Twelve minute club here!! I enjoyed hearing your views on this situation and couldn't agree more with your outlook. As usual, keep up the great work. Take care to you and your family.
I disagree with you a bit on this. First off just because YOU like it does NOT mean it was a commercial success, there have been many games i loved that never got a sequel just because others didn't buy it. From my perspective Forspoken was the straw the broke the camels back with regards to Luminous Studios. Luminous was created to make, maintain and improve upon the Luminous Engine, which has yet to have a commercial success tied to it. They have so far pumped Millions, if not billions at this point, into this studio that has yet to have a game make enough profit for it to be a considered a success (profitable). I also disagree with the NFT's, that seemed like a thing the last President wanted and less so the company as a whole, though investors will always want to make a buck so it can never truly be written off.
Its okay to like what you like, just this time not enough people agreed with you.
If something isn't profitable then you can't force a company to make it to their own detriment.
I totally agree with relating to her. At times it might seem like I hate men but I was abandoned by my dad at age 3 every time I try to meet him he blows me off at the last minute. I carry that festering hate within me.
I think S-E did a good thing by selling their western IPs and studios; hopefully now they can narrow their focus and start coming out with some amazing stuff. Octopath 2 I only played the demo and got through 1 character's intro, but what I experienced blew me away.
Harvestella I probably would have got it it released on PS4/5 and I'm not a fan of farming sims Crisis Core Reunion and FFVII Remake were phenomenal to me, looking forward to Rebirth and part 3. I also really enjoyed Valkyrie Elysium and Star Ocean 6. Otherwise, everything else has been a miss for me.
I enjoyed watching someone play Forspoken though. I felt like Frey's language was appropriate considering her situation.
As an aside, I wish less people supported the TERF game, but what can you do?
The title is abit too on the nose for me lol
The issue with forspoken was the writing and the fact they over doom the Fantasy land. It having weird issues yes, it wiping everything except 1 City over kill. The only thing left is the City to fall and the whole Forspoken 2 takes place in New York city. That's how bad the Story is for forspoken when I got done I Turned Cuff into a some what Good/ Bad guy (Think Venom) for the Sequel meaning it's not only her choice it's turns into his choice as well (Help fight the New Bad or watch everything get wiped) since you know the ending.
First thing they can do is stop taking these ridiculous Sony Exclusivity deals. They are a 3rd party publisher and can use all the potential buyers possible. Microsoft being of them themselves with writing a check for Gamepass deals. Their games simply aren't selling well that are exclusive to Sony. There is no universal where FF7R should of sold as little as it did. It's abysmal.
The problem is that Square-Enix is hell bent on competing with themselves with Action RPGs. Forspoken is up against Strangers of Paradise, Crisis Core, Harvestella, Valkyrie Elysium, Star Ocean The Divine Force, and Babylon's Fall. All of these are Action RPGs by Square-Enix released within the last year. 7 Action RPGs. That's more than 1 every other month and absolutely insane for any company.
Square-Enix released a decent selection of other games though like Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, Tactic Ogres: Reborn, and Octopath 2. But, these games were all given the spin-off treatment with no marketing and this is a huge problem for Octopath 2.
Square-Enix needs to take a step back, divide their studios into distinct groups that focus on Action RPG, Tactics RPG, Misc (their rhythm games go here), and Mobile again. Allow them to develop games that are of different genres so they aren't in direct competition with themselves.
😎🤙🦅
