Watching this video on a Steam Deck lol.
"Linux is a very user unfriendly OS"
Me: *changes from Windows to Linux
I'm having no problems. Btw i have never used the terminal except on really specific occasions.
Sure, using steamOS on the steam deck for things other than gaming takes some learning. That's far more than a switch or xbox or ps5 can do outside of playing games. But it is a gaming handheld, using it for gaming is super easy, which is it's main purpose. Most people who want to play games on it will just do that, the only people who want to do more will know how to tinker and will be fine learning how to tinker with it.
I am a rog ally x fan but steam deck is totally great device
I swear there was another guy who complained the Steam Deck was too big
I don't agree with what this guy said about the OS the steamdeck. Yes, it uses Linux when you switch to desktop mode, but it's a very user-friendly version of Linux.
I've used windows my entire life and I wanted to turn my steamdeck up as a mini gaming setup for when me and my partner fly out to visit each other and I had absolutely no issues setting up a second screen, discord and a couple of other things we both use on there. So, just because it's Linux doesn't mean not user-friendly.
Complains that the resolution it is too low
wants to it to be as small as the DS
Wow imagine saying that steam os is difficult to navigate…definitely was in the slow class growing up
The entire argument about OS is all relative….people who are used to mac and all in on the eco system love it and that is fine….him hating linux but you saying linux is "better" than mac is nothing but opinion and personal choice. The guy is stupid for hating linux so much but your counter argument was nothing great in return, people like what they know best for some that is windows, other mac or linux….or BSD and other minor OS etc….BSD lovers can't be convinced that it isn't "better" than everything else even though it is very niche in comparison, it comes down to preference workload, and compatibility for what YOU do. I don't use mac, don't hate it just not my style and neither is IOS, my taste is windows for my gaming rig, and linux on laptops for regular simple use. Android for phone use which is the linux Kernel. But OS is just a tool of which people use what works best for them and "better" is relative
These people seem to be breandead with the way the spread lies about anything. And the Steam Deck's desktop mode was made to feel familiar to Windows users as Valve kinda knows that the vast majority of their playerbase is in fact on Windows desktops. You don't need to input a single command on the Steam Deck in desktop mode unless your adding things like plugins, and even then, that tends to be a copy-paste situation iirc.
i got the steamdeck for 2 reasons:
1. oh, persona 5 portably is cool. that means i can play every persona game on the go now!
2. wii u emulation is… perfect?? sign me up!
i used to be the BIGGEST steam deck hater. i still think the lcd version is very flawed. when it came out, terrible battery life, bad screen, not very good performance for the price id pay, etc, etc. its now significantly better, and i dont regret my purchase at all. the switch fills whatever void i have for new nintendo games, same way the next nintendo system will.
A year to learn Linux? Took me all of 1 day and a half after being a life time windows user.
Also, it's hilarious that he doesn't realize you can set the time period for automatic updates.
If you have used Windows or MacOS for any long period of time then you shouldn't have issues with Linux on Steam Deck…
Steam Decks version of Linux is nothing like the full blown Linux experience.
File exploring and running programs is very similar to Windows and the only time I have needed any run commands is when a program isn't meant for the version the Steam Deck uses.
And that is from a Windows only user POV, I have never used Linux until the Steam Deck.
From my experience with SteamOS, it's enough for me to want to ditch Windows once Valve releases it with full desktop support as long as Nvidia pull their finger out and get some decent drivers out for it.
Had someone tell me to get a 3ds for emulation instead. I mentioned i wanted an oled but he said his 3ds was also oled. (Ig he upgraded it)
Good for him but i dont see how anyone would recommend that over a steam deck oled
SteamOS is not even that hard to understand lol. Linux is just different then Windows and that's about it.
Linux is hard? Mate the steamOS is not that hard to work with. It's like very easy to work with, you can update everything from the big picture mode and downloading apps is easier than windows as it has an app store.
This guy's points are all bad none actually are flaws but really bad opinions.
Problems with the steam deck would be like it could have better battery and more control on like over locking but that can still be done with some apps.
Needs better CPU but it's still good like it's in the same lane as rog ally so it's not that needed but would be good how the performance will be.
Most people hate windows on the ally because it's not good to control and feels very janky.
When valve releases the steamos it will overcome the windows on ally probably
I'm pretty sure the Steam Deck can play the DS's library and then some through emulation on top of most Steam games. That automatically makes it better.
The only whats barely good about steam deck i saw a youtube video that shows a instructions on how to play Doom mods on the comsole thats what i see if anyone wanna play protable anywhere they go 😐🍵
This dude is higher than me and thats saying something youve seen spme of the rants ove made so thats saying alot you dont hear me saying this stuff Im not this kinda high.
Steam deck hater hate steam deck. Let us enjoy our steam deck while we laugh at this clown.
"Linux sux" translation: "I'm not technologically savvy."
This guy says Linux is terrible, yet getting the Steam Deck helped me learn a lot about Linux, and now I daily drive it on multiple computers and like it BETTER than Windows, hell, I got Arch now lol (I'll save you guys from seeing the famous quote).
I love the Steam Deck !
I remember having a MacBook as my first personal computer and I absolutely hated how restricted it was alongside its lackluster software support, seeing this guy try to lump it with Windows gave me a chuckle.
I have a ROG ally, Switch, and a Steam Deck.
Out of the three, I use the Steam Deck the most, I don't know what that guy is talking about.
For most Steam deck users, you'll just be using your Steam library in gaming mode, and for others, there're many tutorials for other things, like how to emulate etc.
The steam deck exist for valve to push devs towards a minimum spec and increase linux support.
Bro seems to think that you need a computer science degree to fully utilise Linux. SteamOS is honestly one of the most straightforward distributions out there. Even outside the Steam deck, there are easy-to-use distributions out there like Linux Mint.
I've got my Steam Deck coming here in not too long.
Can’t wait to dual boot steam os on my Rog Ally with native valve support. Ima call it The Super Ally Deck
my only 2 complaints that stop me from using the steam deck again is linux not allowing a lot of anti cheat enabled games, which sadly cuts my library by more than half, and the aspect ratio isn't supported by a lot of games, especially older ones, so it causes a lot of letterboxing. and honestly, if i was to dual boot windows, i'd just get the rog ally at that point. but at the same time, steam deck gud, just not for me
>Says the steam deck is too big and heavy to bring portably.
>recommends gaming laptops
Linux is not difficult, it's way more convenient than Windows on a handheld.
